@@klusterfuk3688 the very beginning of act 5 act 2 was karkat and johns first convo so that was after nearly all of the events of that act, and regardless there was so much happening that they didnt have much time to talk and it felt like longer. Also dave literally did live for three days during his time shenanigans, so
Me too, and then someone pointed out that the page is called "JOHN. RISE UP", and not "John: Rise up". It is WV saying "commanding" John to come back, because for all he knows John just died on that slab. And then I really cried. :
@@Epicawesomeness64 Old, but I must: He did not. From his perspective, he withnessed John arrive on the battlefield and achieve the apex of his powers, as prophecy says heroes would. They did a bit of travelling together, then separated and WV left in a ship, didn't witness Jade's arrival if I recall. He wandered the ruined Earth, and unknown years later (pretty sure caparacians are immortal) found the console that let him talk to the hero, so he did. He does know fully realized heroes are immortal, and never understands that this is not also the far future for John. "BOY YOU ARE BEING STUPID. DO THE WINDY THING", remember? Here he witnesses John's death and assumes that's the end of his story. So prophecy was wrong, just another in a long line of dissapointments.u And that's why he left the station, to go back to plans of action that don't involve the Heir of Breath, who is no longer around.
I love how some things in the comic are still certainly "game mechanics", like the symbol of the Ascension. It's basically a way to broadcast to your other players 'The Breath Player has reached the God Tiers"
This should be made a game, if u think about it, there just using different chat clients and *spoiler* when their on the ship it is an extension instead now it being you, you help new players that enter the game
celestial derp Also yeah, in this style I can imagine it of a mmorpg, as etcheladders as levels, instead of numbers. While god tier is more of a class title.
joseph .T I always saw God Tier as, like, "Advanced Class" in some games. Like FF14. You have Thaumaturge, and Black Mage. A God Tier is simply the advanced version. So an Heir of Breath has limited abilities, a God Tier Heir of Breath has unlocked the bulk (and can reach their full potential)
+Classtoise Destiny had some kickass titles too "Guardian of light" for completing the story. "Timebreaker" for completing the Vault of Glass "Swordbearer" for completing Crota's End "Wolves mercy" for completing Skolas Revenge "God slayer" for completing King's Fall Those are just how the characters call you after you do these things, but the "God tier" in Destiny would be surprisingly early, after you cap your subclass, get some decent gear and beat the vault of glass.
Oh damn, just realized that this flash is absolutely horrifying from the Mayor's perspective. All he does is see John get stabbed to death. When he gets a of hope from the fireflies, it's soon dashed because nothing happens to John's corpse. His dreamself becomes his God tier, so his old body just sits there, leaving WV crestfallen. He then watches as the horrifying Bec Nair stares him down through the camera until it fades to static.
Well it seems as if WV thought John 'died' after they met on the battlefield and then parted ways, so presumably he thought John was dead for good until they reunited three years later.
Considering that he saw God Tier John first, yeah it must have been terrible for him. I don't think characters who are part of Sburb's mechanism actually know how the reality they're in works.
Puzzle_12 Actually, I have another take on it. If you watch the part at 1:17 the WV has already watched John ascend, so now he is viewing the part of his demise which lead TO that ascension. My thoughts would be him thinking something like "So THIS is how that happened!" Besides that, the one who turned off the screen don't think was WV, if I recall the screen turned off similarly to another time when trying to watch Jade. I think Bec Noir turned if off via first guardian powers, as I don't think he typed anything as well as how the screen shut off.
this is such a sad flash if you consider this from the perspective of WV. John was basically his only friend after Jack killed everyone in his rebellion, and then after watching John on the monitors (which he doesn't know is him in the past), he watches his good friend die at the hands of Jack again. Always saw the end of the flash as just really sad in general, even though it's supposed to be happy
i just realized that john's corpse is still rotting on lowas, probably with all his old gear too. he couldve combined his old fear no anvil with the vrillyhoo hammer and made the condesce fight so much easier with its time ability
The two merge, they share a mind/soul before godtiering/kissing. Dirk only has the ability to stay awake in both forms because of his classpect, and he still can only actually control the actions of one of his selves at once because he can only be mentally present in one. The ghost john that ghost vriska met was from when terezi killed him in the timeline that the dave who became davesprite came from.
I call bullshit. Imagine what you'd think if you found yourself in the afterlife, no longer a part of your own quest despite nothing you did wrong, while some other version of you goes off and reaps the spoils. Now imagine you're Vriska. Yeah, we'd probably fucking know about it.
Hi everyone I’m a new reader and I just got here and I’m incredibly happy that I found out about homestuck this web comic is one of the most amazing thing that I’m reading and I’m litterally obsessed with that web comic and tbh it’s helping me a lot with learning more English
I just realized this is a Jesus metaphor. No other character gets a revival as grand, since John's is powerful enough to make even Skaia pay attention, along with all those under its light.
Form This Way to be fair, a lot of stuff was going down when the other characters ascended. most didn't even come back on their quest bed. at least 7 revived on the sacrificial slab
Form This Way There are a few things that are special about John's ascension. Aradia is the only other player we've seen who was actually slept on the slab when being killed, he's the only one that was unconscious on both ends during the transformation and had both his "real" self and dream self on a quest bed when it was happening. I think this is also the only quest bed on the battlefield that we've seen. I think it was a good idea to call attention to this first ascension because it's a milestone in the way that his life was consumed by the game that created him: the body he was born in is dead, only the transformed version of his dream persona is left.
Imma be real. I hardly understood a lick of wtf was going on in homestuck and it’s been so long since I’ve read through it (fell off sometime in 2012) but I distinctly remember this [S] and always watch it from time to time because it’s so nostalgic. And idk why, with how crazy the world is right now, I feel like it’s a good time to try and get back into it.
This is the point where a young man, one who isn't that special by any conventional definition of the word, achieves greatness. It is truly a great moment, a moment that outlines the best parts of a great story, for it is the point in the story where an average young man ascends and becomes a God. (Idk that's the best I could put my feelings into words)
I love how SBaHJ is super related to Homestuck, the stairs, the hug between Arquius and Davepeta... But the most important thing is, when Hella Jeff says: "In my dreams, I am the star. IT'S ME", that is related to Homestuck because, they all have dreamselves, and they mean a lot to the history, the God tier ascension, the ability to be revived, and in this flash, John was the center of attention.
I just started reading Homestuck and this has reminded me why I fell in love with this beautiful creation to begin with. God tier John, that's why. I friggin love the Heir of Breath.
Was looking for a new job in the beginning of this brand new year and somehow i started humming this song and i was like, where was this from again??? omggggg. my old memory, mah friend! Man, i look back to the days where I thought art and imagination would still be a thing for me. Maybe, I'll try looking for something in that, instead of admin and business. miss you homestuck. my old fandoms.
this song still gives me shivers, i love it so much. this whole sequence had amazing music. ugh i miss homestuck, waiting for those updates, had a lil ping show up in the corner whenever it updated and id always get excited for scenes like this.
***** No. In [S] Terezi: Remem8er, we see John's ghost after he died on the quest bed. Your dream self inherits your memories and continues the adventure.
this flash is beautiful yet tragic because the original john died here. the john that stood in his bedroom and retrieved the arms from the drawer died really early on, it's so easy to forget that. this flash marks a pivotal point in the comic, a point of no return. things would never be the same after this.
Feel you heartbeat slowing. See the darkness growing. Think that you're not enough? Now It's time to rise up. You've no way of knowing. Now, it's time for showing You in all your glory. Continue your story. There's so much you don't know. Places you will go. Universes call your Name. Wind will fan the flame... (That's all I got so far. Also NOTE! I haven't actually read Homestuck, I just have expansive knowledge on it and some of its characters, so if something doesn't really fit in this, you're welcome to give me suggestions. :) )
Because I've always been intimidated by the fact that it's a mixed bag. On one hand there are parts of it that are INSANELY good with a great story, action, characters, and whatnot, and then on the other hand it's got lots of parts that are truly and utterly BAD (according to my sister anyway, who is obsessed with Homestuck and is my main source of knowledge about it). Plus, I'm a PG girl (hears a crowd go "BOOOOO!" in the background). If it didn't have so many bad parts in it, I'd be hands-down to read it because it seems like it really does contain an incredible story. However, thanks to my sister explaining a lot about it, seeing a few flashes, and RU-vid comments on the soundtrack (which I listen to ALL THE TIME when writing), I feel like I know enough about it and it's characters to appreciate it and call myself a minor fan. Like, my sister wanted to watch the finale with someone, so I joined her. She explained to me the basics of what was happening and the background of stuff, and even when I didn't understand, those two flashes were EPIC!!! I was really emerged in the whole thing. :)
This song calms me somehow Edit: omg, okay so... while reading the comments I figured out what makes this [S] so sad: it’s the WV telling John to “RISE UP”. Which I never realized while reading. Welp, I never cried while reading, but my heart just broke... Thanks Homestuck...
It's like a teleporter. Although the original John dies on the slab, his memories shift to his dream self's. No one notices the difference. Only a little terrifying...
@@maxiatom47 yeah they "merge" with their dream selves (if they're alive) but it's shown in the one terezi dream bubble flash ([s] remem8er? I think?) that when they die to do it, their ghost appears in the dream bubbles so they.. permanently die. Their memories just shift to their dream selves, like a star trek teleporter. Rose's situation was a little different iirc, because the dream self she combined with was the dream self from davesprite's timeline and that happened a bit earlier, and her ascention was different on the moon slabs vs the planet slabs
OMG, when I was looking for this I clicked on a song called Rise (by John Dreamer). I thought it was this. Someone in the comment section told me to match it up with this, AND ITS SO PERFECT AND SAD!!! try it!!
Let’s take a minute to process that John was in his sleep when he got stabbed. John died. In his sleep. Kind of morbid to know that John will never wake up. And he wasn’t conscious to even stop him. Poor guy
It was at this very moment I knew Homestuck was more then a comic. It was at that moment that I knew I had stumbled on something much more grand than I could have ever imagined.
SPOILERS . . . . So I notice alot of people don't realize this! John died right there. Remember, dreamselves and normal selves are practically seperate entities. The John we were following up until that point has died, and we're following his god tier dream self from that point onwards :((( (The dead John is then later erased by english in the openning to him destroying the dream bubbles, as seen)
SPOILERS: I like how in Cascade when Jade goes god tier there is a nice throw back to this both cinematically and musically but the execution is far better
the first time I got to this flash I sobbed a lot because i grew an attachment to john and refused to read more hs for 3 days. After that little "denial" i went through i got over it and felt stupid considering there were at least a few more thousand pages to read and I figured john should turn out alright.
ok i have a question so if someone is god tier and knows they'll only die if it's just or heroic, what if they stab themselves for fun? will it be considered just or will they resurrect?
i would only be considered just if they did something that deserved death or if they are about to do something that would cause something terrible and they know of this consequence or the one killing them does so to prevent this consequence
+Xero0 but would messing around and killing yourself just because you can resurrect be considered doing something corrupt or that made you deserve death?
No I don't think so. Just would be if the person was doing bad stuff and was killed to prevent it. Whereas killing yourself to prevent yourself from doing bad stuff in the future would be, ironically, heroic
