This is by far one of the best review videos I seen. I own a low rider st and have literally the same set up you have. One has to be realistic with what the bike can do. It is a cruiser after all jejeje but I do love to surprise sport bikes and beat them on the highway Cheers mate thanks for the video
Beautiful bike.. I agree with your assessment of the 475 cam... great power but the bike is never relaxed. I went with the Zippers 468 cam for that reason...great hp and tq, but better on gas and not as annoying at slower speeds.
Hi, thanks for watching, If I struggle with the 475 I'll definitely give the Zippers a go. If you haven't already, please subscribe, more on the way soon.
Awesome information mate. Exactly what I was looking for as a 475 cam fence sitter. I would love the extra poke but would be gutted to ruin the "relaxed cruising" characteristics of my M8 so this was really helpful. Thanks again
Thanks for watching and your comments, another video on the way soon. I’ve fitted a lollipop baffle, which has improved torque and helped with the noise, which was a bit much, I’m getting it dyno’d again soon, but if it hasn’t improved enough I’ll swap it out, for either a Redshift 468 or Screaming Eagle 462 power cam.
I did a stage 1 on my Harley trike and it was pretty sweet, especially sounding. Later on I upgraded the stereo and did a stage 2 with a Jims 918 cam and it was a BEAST with 103HP and 135TQ at the wheel ... on a Trike, that was insane. I can easily do 120mph and get the front wheel up off the ground in the first 2 gears. But like you mentioned, the noise was pretty harsh. Totally drowning out the radio at just cruising speed. I actually took out the "Zombie" baffles and put in "Mid" baffles and that made the sound MUCH better, but I lose 4HP and 5TQ. Some days I miss it, most I don't. There is ALWAYS a balancing act.
I put on a pair of Metzeler’s Cruisetech and what a huge performance upgrade. Money well spent. The Harley tires were lacking in my style of riding. I love to rip the roads. I have a 2020 Low Rider S with the same S&S 475 and I love it. I do have to fill up more often. I enjoy the video. Thanks.
I have the exact same problem on my Fast Johnny with a 475...Riding at low speeds is a challenge. I did get Ohlins front and rear and Berringer brakes with Lyndal rotors. I love it but it was also fun with just a pipe. Need another bike now:). Cheers
Hi Tifani, I have fitted a lollipop baffle, which has helped slightly, it’s going back on the dyno soon, but if that doesn’t work it’s going to be another cam change 😩. Thanks for watching 👀 👍
Just make sure the cam you pick will suit your riding for 90% of the time, they really do change the personality of the bike. Thanks for watching, and If you haven't already, please subscribe as this will help me to produce more content.
Well done, informative and entertaining. My brother has a 2023 RG3, I've been trying to talk him into a stage 2, 475 cam upgrade, but He's happy with the stock, sewing machine sound it came with. Go figure?
Hi Kevin, thanks for watching and your kind comments, the 475 is a big change, so I understand why some people don’t upgrade, I haven’t made my mind up yet, I may still go for something a little less extreme, I’m hoping to try a bike fitted with a Zippers redshift 468, as I’m told they’re slightly down on HP, but strong on torque and a little smoother to ride at cruising speeds, hopefully I’ll get a body out on that asap!
Hi Jeff, it’s more a comment on the bikes loss of ride ability, loving the power, just wish it was like the original cam with extra boost, suppose you only get that from adding extra cubes? Anyway thanks for watching 👀 more on the way down please subscribe 👍
@@sweetrides8418 I know what you mean....I put a set of Fueling Cams in my Twin Cam and i feel more vibration in my handlebars...But you know how to fix that?...Just twist that throttle and haul ass...Hahaha👍😎🏍️
Hi Brad, dead right! I guess I was just hoping to find the best of both worlds, probably doesn't exist, thanks for watching, please subscribe if you haven't already, more on the way soon.
Thanks Frank, I’m not sure if I’m going to keep the 475, it’s super powerful, but makes the bike harder to ride. I’m looking at possibly using a Zippers Redshift 468, almost as much power, a bit quieter and smoother at low revs. Watford also have a fat bob with a screaming eagle power cam in that I ride last week, still quite punchy and very smooth, decisions, decisions 🤔
Hi Nick, I’m glad you’re enjoying your bike, I think I’m just struggling with the noise on mine, I’m getting used to the way it rides, any tips? Anyway thanks for watching, 👀 if you haven’t already, please subscribe as it helps me to create more content 👍
I put the stage 2 in my 117 except I installed 30/30 cam, for me it changed the bike for the better not only in performance but other components to hopefully extend the life of the engine
@@sweetrides8418 The power is linear and from what I've read iy comes on earlier than the 475 so putting around on it s not to bad, M8s like to hang around upper RPMs anyway so like you said you just have to adjust a bit, and also the 475 is bit temperamental when it comes to exhaust so you could experiment to see if that changes things for the better
I put the 475 in mine, The exhaust noise was way to loud so I put on a supertrap (early morning starts, close neighbours), That supertrap exhaust made the engine feel very linier and in its power delivery. I consider the suspension and the brakes to be absolute junk, only made more apparent by the bump in horsepower.
Hi Metla, interesting, you’re right about the extra power highlighting other issues, although I think the stock tyres are the biggest issue. Thanks for watching 👀 please subscribe 👍
@@sweetrides8418 Early on I ran over a piece of steel on the motorway which punctured my rear tire, Managed to keep it going for a few km by keeping the speed up, but as soon as I hit an exit and throttled off the tire collapsed. So I put on fresh tires front and back.
Yeah, I really should change mine, but don’t want to pay for new ones until I’ve put a few more miles on the stock ones, stupid really, I know they’re not up to the job 😂
Hi Sam, you may be right, but my twin cam Fat Boy never felt anything like this, although different engines may react uniquely to a similar cam. Thanks for watching 👀 👍
Impressive dyno chart mate ... I have a Zippers 468 in my 114 ... Same issues as you , but it takes a while to get use to it around town.... I upgraded my tyres to Avon Cobra chromes, which handle a lot better and turn a lot better than the HD rubber, but ride comfort is not as good . Probably will try Metzellers next time. Check my sound video if you want to compare to yours Its a Beautiful bike you have, but still cant understand why HD made the bags different sizes on those models , looks lop sided when you are following one , now side on , there is a big gap between your single pipe and bag ...
Hi Sparky, people are telling me that the Zippers is better at low revs? I'll give it a while with the S&S 475, but if I'm struggling with it I might try the Zippers 468, I think it makes better torque low and mid range, which is where you need it really. Thanks for the tyre tips, definitely change mine soon. Yeah, shame Harley didn't fit the bike with a two into one as stock, then the bags might match. Thanks for watching, if you haven't already please subscribe as this helps me provide more content
@@sweetrides8418 The 2 into 1 and equal bags, are on the Sport Glide which came out before the ST. I got an aftermarket ST fairing on my 2018 Sport Glide and it handles and rides great at all speeds so far.
There’s so many better cams out there now. That cam is over rated. Star 30-30 Cycle rams 483 and 485 are all better. Shop 67 cam is also a heavy hitter
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check those out, I’ve not decided if the 475 is right for me. Anyway thanks for watching 👀 more on the way, so please subscribe 👍
The 475 is nasty in low revs i had the same issue and didnt enjoy it for everyday relaxed riding either Some people will argue you shouldnt have cammed it then but it is very possible to have a cam and not have to deal with that Its a known thing, not nice around roundabouts and if your cruising you now need to be a gear lower than before in higher revs using more fuel and being noisier to have it riding smooth… pain in the ass Its great at wide open throttle but not cruise friendly Youve already got all the other parts if you get over it just swap it to a cyclerama 483 or star 30/30 cam and it will ride much better They are close to what you have but will be smoother in the bottom Or if you really favour bottom end torque early the cyclerama 480 might suit you better but will sacrifice a tad off the top end compared to the 483 Plenty of vids around this on youtube Exhaust can affect this majorly and create torque dips aswell but the exhaust you have is a great option so shouldnt be an issue Welcome to the world of spending thousands on harleys, be careful its addictive 😂
Hi Luke, thanks for the advice, if I can’t get on with this cam I definitely take a look at your suggestions. Thanks for watching 👀 if you haven’t already, please subscribe as this will help me produce more content 👍
Change the shocks. Change the pads for more bite. Change the tires to the Metzeler tires used in bagger racing. Adjust ride height on rear. On your corners at low speed with a cam in a Harley it is common to half clutch to take the chop out when riding. Just get used to it and you will not go back to a smooth cam. If you do want a smother cam with the same power go with the star 30/30.
Hi, thanks for the advice, I'm assuming you have quite a bit of experience with upgrades? Thanks for watching, if you haven't already, please subscribe as this will help me to provide more content.
Even my 107 Electra Glide spins the stock tyre up in the dry. Those tyres really are dogsh*t. I'm on Avon Cobra Chromes now and what a difference. Impressive figures for Stage 2, by the way!
Great Video! I am interested in what the modifications did to your fuel economy? I have an Ultra Limited and I am interested in putting in either an S&S 475 cam or a Wood 22XE cam. My only hesitation is that I take a couple of long touring trips with my riding buddies. Their bikes are all stock, and they like to go up to 200 miles before stopping for fuel. I had a friend years ago that put a cam into his 2008 Ultra, and his fuel milage went way down. We were having to stop every 150 miles to keep his bike running. So, this is where my concerns come from. What was your milage stock and what is it now with the 475. Again, great video and thanks in advance for your comment on fuel consumption!!!
Hi, so in stock trim I was getting about 220 miles per tank, now about 180 depending on how hard I ride, but the tank on softails is a gallon smaller than a touring tank, hope that helps 👍
If the exhaust was longer, you would get a small jump in horsepower and torque, 9:07 plus the noise level for the driver is considerably less. Speaking from experience. Nevertheless Good Video 📹
How’s your fuel economy after all of that? Got a street bob with the small fuel tank. Been wanting to do some upgrades but I’m worried about loosing my limited range I currently have right now and I’m getting 49-51mpgs and that’s with fairly spirited riding.
Hi Corey, I've not noticed a massive difference, maybe 20 miles a tank if I'm really ripping it up. Thanks for watching, If you haven't already please subscribe as this helps me to produce more content.
Nice, I'd recommend a different header for a bit more down low streetable torque and throttle response. Short length primary headers kill power below 3500 rpm, they're ok if you spend the majority of time in the upper registers of the rpm range but for normal street riding, long tube primary headers fit the bill. P.S. It's difficult to draw direct conclusions/comparisons with dyno numbers from H.D. and the aftermarket, Harley tends to show dyno numbers with restrictive cat pipes, lean fuel mixtures and retarded ignition timing (tuning)that are environmentally friendly whereas the aftermarket tends to show numbers with performance tuning and all the performance goodies added to gain as much power as they can to promote their products, not a real apple to apple comparison. Sweet bike btw.
Hi, that's really helpful thanks, Do you have any experience of the Zippers 468 cam, I've had a few people recommend it as being a little easier to live with.
@@sweetrides8418 The Redshift 468 is a "torque cam" much in the same way as the SE-447 and S&S 465 cams are, the stock 117 cam isn't that far off of the SE-447 cam specs wise, which is why Harley doesn't recommend it for the 117, there wouldn't be much of a performance gain. Before you decide to switch cams, I'd really recommend you switch to long tube primary headers and have the bike re-tuned/dyno'd, the S&S 475 cam is a good street "power" cam but like most other performance parts, they need to matched together to work in concert with each other, putting a cam designed to make power in a specific rpm range and another part optimized to make power in another rpm range is where power is lost. Good luck & ride safe.
I had a 475 in my M8 Fat Bob.Great sound but didnt like what it did to the power delivery. Not for me.The bike wants to carry a gear lower vs stock. It wants to rev.Not great going from a stop at super low rpms.
Hi, yeah I've not decided whether to keep it in yet, great on long fast runs, but not much fun around town. Thanks for watching, if you haven't already, please subscribe, more on the way soon.
@@sweetrides8418 My bike got thirstier also.I have a brand new Road King Special now.Slip ons only, stock cam is staying. They come great from the factory except for the sound. But thats not Harleys fault.
What about fume or smell? I like my 475 cam because where i live is a lot of highway. But i cant even ride in regular cloths to even go to the supermarket. Tried retuning but nothing. I love the power of it but kind of regret some stuff. Does this happen to you? The tunning was done by a respectable man in the harley realm in florida. So i kind of guess thats the trade off.
Hi Simon, I've not noticed any fumes or smells, when I riode the bike alone I love it, but if I try cruising with the Harley guys its hard work. I'll see how I get on but I might end up trying to find some middle ground with a calmer cam that still gives the bike a bit of a boost, after all it wasn't too bad in stock form.
My bike with a downloaded tune was fumy to the point the guys I ride with were complaining about it, I could smell fuel all the time, The bike was also surging so I figured there was to much fuel being dumped in the engine. Anyway, Got it on the dyno, No fumes, no smell, Power very direct and controlled.
On a recent long trip a few guys mentioned fumes to me after that had followed me, it’s already been dyno’d so I think it’s just an unavoidable result of the massive valve overlap on that cam

@@sweetrides8418 yes not always wanted . if you still have a map on anther rider mode to use maybe . I use street mode and not always sport dependent on kind of roads and riding . interesting on a different cam and remap can do . That’s triumph rocket torque territory .
😂 I’m taking it that you’re an Aussie then? The “too much” title doesn’t refer to power, just the way the cam changes the ride ability of the bike. Anyway thanks for watching 👍
That’s ~ $3,000.00 USD plus you’ve got a couple grand in the pipes and tuner. I just bought a 2024 Breakout with a 117 M8. I’ll just do stage one with louder pipes. When I feel the need for speed, I ride my 2022 Hayabusa. FJB 🖕🖕🖕🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳

Hi Dale, I suppose I should have given this a different title, the power is great, the bike is just not as ridable as it used to be, which is the trade off. I'll stick with it for a couple of months, but if I can't get on with it, I may look at something a little less extreme, a lot of people are recommending the redshift 468 or star 30/30.
