@@eddiemorris5601 Yeah mine is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. .My indicator light that as well as my dials that he shows in his case on the position sensor are by the fuse box on mine

I've always wondered the same thing. What is the purpose of having the motor spinning momentarily before it starts ? I haven't ever gotten a straight answer.

@@whatyoumakeofit6635 To have time to get some fresh fuel mixture down into the cylinders. If it's been sitting for a while, there may not already be some fuel mixture down in there. Just because a spark occurs doesn't guarantee there's any fuel mixture for it to ignite.

It allows the starter to build some inertia against the kickback from compression.

Are you sure that the engine is on the compression stroke when the TDC mark is in the timing window? If it is, please call our tech dept for more help. It goes a lot more quickly on the phone than an exchange in RU-vid comments. 608-627-1497

This was also a question of mine, but if you mark at TDC with the reference point in the primary, THEN use the back timed light at 35, it makes sense you will hit the Advance at the spot you need BTDC.

Put your fingertip onto the front cylinder spark plug hole, you will feel the cylinder create a vacuum from under your finger as you rotate your rear wheel clockwise. This is your intake stroke. The next stroke will be the compression stroke and you will feel the air escape the cylinder. As soon as it begins start looking for your mark.The event happens fairly quickly and it's okay to reverse rotation of the wheel back to the intake stroke to start the process again. Five events in a four stroke engine. Intake stroke, Compression stroke, Timed ignition, Power stroke, Exhaust stroke

Let me add that on your exhaust stroke you hear the event through your exhaust due to your exhaust valve is open. Compression stroke obviously both valves have to be closed.

No, you don't have to ground the VOES. In fact it's a good thing to have working for you, since shovels are more prone to detonation when they get hot. VOES helps a lot with that by backing the timing off when the engine is under a load. What you must do is set the module to kick start mode! That makes it spark on the first crank revolution and it starts much easier. Some electronic ignitions will provide you with hours of aerobic exercise trying to kick start them, but the HI4N really does kick start easily.

Thanks so much for your speedy response!! I will look into getting a voes. It is a light, stroker so I usually don`t have much trouble. Like you said though when it gets really hot and pulling a steep hill or something voes would be nice to have. Otherwise it sounds like the wire is just taped up. Thanks again!!

How do you set to kick start mode

Unfortunately it will not, although there are a number of manufacturers that do build ignitions for the Honda line.

+mco zpda Yes you can. The S&S HI-4N is totally contained in the cone cover, and connects directly to the coil.

Coils , good ..(new) Regulator ,good .. module box , good . (power arc ll single fire) and i like the S&S HI-4N ..... to my fxrp 89 .. ..........................CHEERS ........................ ..

Patrick Garvin Patrick, I was referring to the H configuration - the crossover pipe between the headers. I've seen that on high performance cars often but this is the first time I've seen it on a bike. That's why I was curious.

Patrick Garvin Thanks, Patrick. I'm not an expert but I really don't see why you would want to create an exhaust system that would, at best cause a "scrambled air flow". It seems to me that doing that would "clog" your system in terms of escaping air flow. For the record, I'm an Assistant Professor of Math and Physics. This kind of configuration doesn't make sense to me. It looks to me like the exhaust gases are simply going to race by the cross-over tube and do nothing at all. In a high performance car(which I'm more familiar with) certain exhaust configurations can give you back pressure that can help increase your compression and, thus your power, etc. even though that seems counter intuitive. The H configuration has never made any sense to me because the exhaust expulsion is simply going to "slide by" the H-pipe. The X-pipe config is popular and supposedly a good power addition. With the expulsions from headers 1 and 2 crossing and "jamming" and then "repelling"each other, as it were, I can easily see a back pressure buildup which might, in the end increase your engine's output, but it would also decrease its lifespan substantially.

Jeff Irick The crossover pipe is something that all stock Harley-Davidson® exhaust systems have, and is a feature of the S&S Power Tune Dual headers. Many other bikes and cars have this also. It really doesn't scramble the air flow as you might expect. Keep in mind that exhaust coming out of a cylinder head is not a steady flow. It comes out in pulses. That makes the resonance of the pipe an important factor. It is really beneficial to scramble the pulses since the pipe has a resonant frequency and tends to make peak power at one rpm. If it has a peak at one rpm, it must have a valley, at some other rpm. The crossover pipe detunes the pipe making it less resonant. Mufflers also break up the exhaust pulses and help prevent them from reflecting back up the pipe and fighting with the next pulse as it tries to come out of the exhaust port. The result is that the engine will produce a wider, smoother power band. In most cases this will result in more "power under the curve" when analyzing a dyno chart. @@jasonrawls7685 Spark Plugs, got it. A 2 plug head is designed for a more efficient burn, but are pretty rare on the early motors.

Slow down your Advanced rate

The heads may effect the timing your require, but there should be no problem. You should ask the manufacturer for timing recommendations. The main thing to keep in mind is that this ignition is designed for 1970-'99 big twins with alternator style crankcases. It can also be used with a special timer and reversed timing gears in generator engines.
