S-VCM Controller (VCM Delete)
Installation on 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L
Honda V6 - Engine code j35a7 with VCM
nearly 243k miles
This video is NOT Sponsored
I purchased this device with my own money to help fix problems on my Honda Odyssey
Installing because noticing it use more oil up to 3qts between oil changes. And now feel some in-balances with the engine when VCM is enabled (ECO mode )
Only install S-VCM Controller when the engine is ice cold
Hopefully S-VCM Controller solves some of the issues.
- oil consumption
- oil filling bank 1 cylinders (the ones that get deactivated)
- fouling of spark plugs
- engine imbalances when running in 3 cylinder mode
(since it will not do that anymore it should NOT have any more imbalances.
The temperature sensor location diagram I mentioned in the video is here:
svcmcontroller....
I will report back on results :
So far the engine is more responsive and the imbalance I was feeling when vcm was enabled has gone away.
after a fresh oil change with 5w20 Havoline High Mileage sync Blend
top off of oil is done with 5w20 Havoline High Mileage sync Blend
Gas tank measurements were not done in sequence
These are random. Tank mpg measurements done at fillups
Some measurements were skipped
These are just what I noted
Gas Tank 1:
miles : 261.1
gallons : 16.744
mpg : 15.5936455
Tank 2
Miles: 254.8
Gallons : 15.790
Mpg : 15.1756998
Tank 3: Miles: 173.6 ( choose to fill up before empty tank)
Gallons:10.068
Mpg: 17.24274930472785
More highway driving I suspect
Oil level Down 1/4 qt of oil , I did not add more oil yet
It say 80% oil life left on before next oil change
Mpg: 14.80287346569376
Added 1/2 qt oil just before fill up
Added 1 bottle of STP high milage fuel injector cleaner with full up
Tank 5:
Gallons : 16.751
Miles :268.1
Mpg: 15.9453166975106
6/16/2024 ** UPDATE ** , I have now had to add 2 qts of oil at 40% oil life
oil changes in this car are every 5k miles
Oil Consumption between oil changes
before SVCM-Controller : 3-4 qts
after SVCM-Controller : TBA
Oil used before and after SVCM-Controller is Havoline 5w20 high mileage Sync Blend
Gas used is 87 octane E10 fuel

See video description for after SVCM controller fuel and oil consumption after I did an oil change. Still going oil change have 30% oil life left. Once it is time for a oil change I will publish another video and update this text with my findings Oil usage: Fuel mpg:

2017 pilot done 3 wks ago, going strong. had a engine light on from other cause, but their after service is amazing, even though it wasn't caused by this device. I feel the V6 power.

@@hahockyang4440 yep and on my odyssey it had reduced oil consumption from 4qts. To 1-2qts per oil change

Nice work hope it is running better

Yes it is and using less oil and more responsive. But its fuel mpg suffers 1-2 mpg less. Hopefully this will let the engine last longer It has 244k miles may get rid of as it gets closer to 300k as that’s its next major maintenance which requires a timing belt change, valve adjustment, water pump replacement, etc

@@dfields9511 that I can understand if you go that route

Yep it’s like a $3k maintenance if you do it by the book. That’s the problem with Honda V6 is they have a timing belt not a chain and they have to be changed every 100k miles or when they break it destroys the engine due to the interference engine design

@@Turningwrenches85 also I have updaed the MPG usage for these post install. in the video description.

I didn’t know Honda was doing this system too. All the American manufactures use it in trucks. All have had problems because of it too.

Yep all started with j35a7 engine. VCM1, VCM2 is the worst and most problematic VCM3 is more like VCM1 And VCM4 likely hasn’t been out long enough or not the same kind of problems yet. Even v6 accords and Acuras have this vcm system

I saw that on the GM I think there are some ways to delete / disable that AFM feature see www.onallcylinders.com/2017/11/30/how-to-delete-or-disable-active-fuel-management-afm-on-gm-engines/

Hey bud, you got an update on functionality now that you have been running it for awhile?
@dfields9511
@dfields9511 2 месяца назад
Yah I was going to do a update vid when it got to the first oil change after. It hasn’t been long enough. Yet I have been updating the vid description with mpg decrease it by 1-2 mpg. But it has reduced oil consumption so far . Once I get to oil change I will know how much I have had to add between oil changes. So far it’s a little over 1 qrt. Where it use to be maybe 3 qrts. The car is more responsive and the vibration from engine in-balances when running in 3 cylinder mode is gone. The van has 245k miles btw
