I bought the 4 inch 586 in 2013 to use in my business. At the time, I owned a firearms training school, and purchased one replica airgun of each major firearms action style to allow students to learn the basics without recoil. Back in the late 80's, I had purchased a Walther P88 airgun to go along with my cartrige-firing P88 (wish I still had them both) and knew how useful these pistols could be. The 586 airgun seemed obscenely expensive ten years ago at almost $300, but when I got it in my hands, the quality was obvious. Today in 2023, it still works just as well as when it was new, while many of the other cheaper airguns I bought have long since failed and been discarded. I do not regret a penny I spent on my 586. I am retired now, and live in an apartment with a large front room that has 10 yards available from front to back. A disability makes it difficult to get to the range with my cartridge guns, and since I no longer own my own range (sold it when I sold my school) a trip can be expensive. So I simply set up a sheet metal backstop behind a cardboard box filled with old towels on which I post my targets, and happily shoot my CO2 pistols indoors. I have a Colt 1911 which is great fun, a SIG P226, a Glock 19, and a Beretta 92 which are all useful, but when I want real accuracy, I choose the 586. I'd say that if you can find one today, buy it!
I could not agree more. The 586's are fantastic! I am developing a one-of-a-kind product to make a safe and quiet shooting platform in or outside of your house. Hopefully, it will be ready for distribution next summer. Happy Shooting!👍🏻😉
Some months ago, i was thinking of buying umarex 6" 586 or 686. 586 is my favourite classic model. The look is very balanced, not thin, not bulky, very accurate. But they are 250-300$ in my country, excessively expensive. That's why, i bought a vigilante. it performs really great. Today, i would buy pellets. i saw 6" 586 at 110$. i could not believe. i phoned and asked if they are serious, or they forgot to update the price and stock. i reminded them of current sale prices. The seller said local people dont know much about this pistol, since it is a bit old model,sits there for a long time, becuase of this. since he is a regular seller, i ordered one of the two remaining pistols immediately.
I bought one with the nickel finish with 6" barrel back in 2012 and it still works perfectly, just like new. Never had a problem with it, and this gun is super nice, and very accurate. Also, this gun uses some type of high quality urethane seal or something like that, and it has never become crushed, cracked, or worn. It's still just like new after 11 years and does not leak at all. I still shoot this gun regularly. These are great pistols, highly recommended.
I've had a 6" 586 for nearly 20 years now. The finish on mine is more glossy, I don't think they offer that any more. It is by far my most accurate pistol, and the trigger is probably the best of all my pistols too. I still fancy picking up a shell ejecting revolver, it's just a shame the new M29 and 629 are smoothbore,... but I might pick one up anyway. Like you said, they are worth the investment.
@@AirgunDetectives I don't like those 2 at all but I do love the attachable stock. Would that fit on to any other revolvers? I really want 1. Shame being a replica that Umarex didn't make it more realistic and have 6 pellet shells like the beautiful 715, Peacemaker and Colt Python. The 10 shot mag is so noticeable straight away and gives it a very unrealistic look, definitely not for me JC. Good review though mate. Cyrus.
Thanks for a good in depth review of this pistol. I saw a used 1 for sale near me a few weeks ago. I will see if its still for sale now i have the info on it. Hopefully i will own one very soon.
if you have access to a Baikal 654 i would really like to see you review this espcially for the accuracy test. love the way you approach these reviews.

I've had one of these for 11 years now. They are superb pellet pistols, very very good stuff. But I think they have been discontinued. I tried to find another one recently so my wife could also have one, but I can't find them anywhere. I think CO2 revolvers have progressed to the more realistic ones now, with the actual cylinders that rotate, and the fake shells to load the pellets in.
Wow! A very nice review JC! I think True Canadian Airguns also reviewed that same 6"er a few years back.. A very nice revolver indeed. I would not mind testing one of those out sometime...and probably would not even mind owning one.😁

These are great looking,, and apparently good shooting revolvers. I am a fan of CO2 pellet shooting pistols and revolvers. My favorites though, have to have rifled barrels. Good shooting Frank, and yes JC, having a buddy to shoot with makes it more fun, for sure.
I used to shoot bowling pins competitively when I lived in Florida years ago with a S&W 586 with 6" barrel. I loved .357 Magnums. I also had a K22 with 6 " barrel which is based on the 586 frame and shot it competitively shooting bullseye indoor at 25 yards, both the .22 and .357 are extremely accurate. I like the fact that both included adjustable target sights and light triggers. I could have purchased a 686 but for competitive shooting I prefer a blued barrel.

Cool review. I know you like it when we get ideas for guns you may wish to review so here goes…Artemis/SnowPeak P-40 semi automatic regulated rifle/bull pup and I believe under 600$. They don't produce them anymore. There was a guy on eBay that had a few 4" models in black. Reasonably priced as well. I would jump on that. These will become more rare everyday.

Negative, Frank had his choice. The 586 is a bit lighter and that was his choice. The accuracy is pretty much the same with both using open sights. I also gave him his choice of shelves. I even added some smaller targets like the shotgun shell for my shelf. But, keep in mind, that was not a competition...that was just fun. Who do you think got him shooting like that?....no not "Lucy"😉👍
My Dad bought me one if these when I was 14 in UK, wheb I split with my Ex in 2013 she refused to give it back. Sadly now very difficult to get hold of. Gutted
