Fourth episode of our series in USA, from the South Rim to the North Rim Grand Canyon with a little detour to the Monument Valley. But the North Rim is supposed to be closed until May 15th... Suspense!!

My wife and I take short tours on our tandem, the farm comes first! But, thanks for sharing, we have been tandeming for 18 years now! It is "the way to go"! Thanks so much for your post! I was there twenty years ago.

That wasn’t a $120 penalty fee... that was a $120 entry fee to have the North Rim ALL to yourselves. Money WELL spent!! I’d gladly pay that anytime to do the same. Think of how many people spend that much on a dinner out at a usual restaurant.

First off, don't look so incriminated about the ticket. NPS won't love me for this, but you are not the first or last to go under that gate. Why do you think the nice ranger was about the place? I must say that sliding your bike under that gate was easier than getting through with our KLR650s. MY rules for such things is this: 1) If nobody can tell that someone was where they were not supposed to be, then I wasn't here. 2) There isn't anybody else here to save me from my stupidity. 3) If you are caught, do exactly what you did. It was expensive, but you had the pick of the campsites, an adventure that nobody else you know has had, and a night of absolutely natural sounds. No harm done. Not that i would encourage you to break the rules in a foreign country....

Sure we do not like the idea to break rules in a foreigner country where we are welcomed, but we could not turn back so close to the goal. We were honest and collaborative with the Park Ranger, and that why he allowed us to spend the night there (that what he said). So finely, we paid 130$ and had the North Rim only for us, better than 20$ the site on the campground with lot of people around!! :) with a KLR650s !! :)
