You asked for it, and here it is, at LONG last the Lynsey B is out trying to catch some Mackerel...will we succeed, you'll need to watch the vlog to find out.
Also, half way through there was a technical hitch, with the main Camera, so unfortunately, alot of footage has been lost.
We do hope you enjoy this vlog.

Nice catch Barry, a couple of those filleted fried with brown bread and butter for tea would be a nice feast.

Hi George. You're absolutely correct. They were really decent size, to good to use as bait.😞😭 I just wish we had a market for them at Dunbar.🤷‍♂️🙈😁👌 All the best.😁

abit of a tip for you , use a heavier weight on the mackerel line to stop the mackerel coming up like a bunch of bananas and stops them tangling everything up

Hi famas. Thank you so much for that top tip. Really appreciate it. 😉👍 I was really having difficulty from the get go that day.😂😂😂 but at least I was catching...not so much now though I'm afraid. 🐬🐬🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂😉👍 All the best.😁

Hi Colin. Thank you so much for this very kind message. We are so glad that you are enjoying the vlogs. Going back to fishing takes guts, especially in today's climate. But long term, it a fantastic thing to do, the industry needed men and woman, to keep this industry rolling on. Let us know how you get on. All the very best. Baz.😉👍

01:40 as someone who fixes pleasure craft, I've worked on at least one boat that was badly damaged in a harbour when someone tied it up wrong after moving their own boat from the inside. The recriminations are still ongoing nearly 6 years later. It's like you point out - the boat outside you has tied to you - and incorrectly. If they had bothered to tie off to the bollards, it's only a question of you slipping away, and then shortening the ropes at the bollard. Now you have to spend 30 mins extricating yourself while taking on responsibility for the boat outside too. They left all the hard work to you. Me? I refuse to so much as hitch a fender on, because YOU'LL end up being the person held to account if it was too high, too low, too far forward or too far back! There are a lot of people operating pleasure craft that can't even tie up properly to a pontoon, but that's another story... don't get me started! 🤣

...oh, fabulous content as always! My father in law was a salmon fisherman back in the day, and he took us out to get mackerel a few times. There was some difference between a commercial fisherman finding a shoal (pre fish finder era), and me and my dad sitting in our little 14ft boat as a 10yo waiting for a mackerel to swim past... 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Keith, So sorry for this late reply. It's been a BUSY week/ weekend.😳 I'm still on the catch up.😂😂😂😂 Thank you so much for you in depth comment, I really appreciate other people's input and experiences. I totally get the leisure side of things. To me this is where our lovely MCA should be concentrating there efforts on....half the pleasure users, don't even know the rules of the rd!😳😳😳 and if your saying they can't even tie to the pontoon...well, that says it all.😂😂😂😂 I must admit, I was pointing it out more to " our" commercial boys, who do this job on a daily, and who secretly watch my vlogs, and come from Dunbar, and maybe, just maybe, it's the two boats who lie outside of me.😂😂😂😂😂🤞🤞🤞😂😂😂 Have a great week ahead bud. All the very best.😁👌

😂😂😂 Thank you Keith much appreciated mate. Your absolutely right about the old days...but the men had the knowledge, they didn't need the technology...much to admire is that...all but lost with the younger generation, now a days.😂😂😂😉👍 All the best buddy.😉👍

@@onemanandhisboat oh, I have stories of the pleasure brigade that would make your hair grow back just to stand on end - one of the worst ones happened just last week, but, like I say - don't get me started - you nearly got me started! 🤣 Fair seas and big catches Baz! 👍

I've had some fun on my boats avoiding creel ends. Or even the ropes that are floating just below the surface. I don't think I understand fishing quotas at all or why anyone still wants to do it. Well done Barry x
@onemanandhisboat
@onemanandhisboat 2 года назад
Hi Jackie. Yeah, it's not very easy to dodge all the ends...you should try trying to place your pots.😂😂😂😂 Yeah, this kinda of "fishing" isn't fishing in my eyes...that's not what we were taught...just pure greed I'm afraid.☹👎 licences, and the folks that keep them up to date, is an absolute nightmare...if the guys issuing them don't get it, how's the fishermen?...and we're busy enough, without having to check it every week...stupid, stupid system....but what do we expect from the Government. 😂😂😂😂 Have a great week a head hun. All the very best.😉👍

Hi John. 😂😂😂 yeah, unfortunately, that was the one and only time, I caught that amount. Our friends arrived🐬🐬🐬 and that was the end of that!😂😂😂 After that, it's been a scrape to even get enough for my my days fishing.😁👌 All the best.😉👍

Hi Barry, the government would soon moan if they couldn't get their fish suppers believe me you just keep on doing what you are doing.

Hi Ken. Thank you again for this wonderful comment. I'm sure the government aren't that fussed where there fish supper comes from, as they have been selling out the fishermen since 1973😞 But on the upside, I will definitely be taking your advice and keep on doing what I am doing.💪😍😁👌 All the very best, buddy 😊

I definitely sympathize with your efforts to make a living but, living in Canada and having witnessed the devastation of the cod stocks, I can only conclude that fishermen can be their own worst enemy who frequently overfish (which you recognize) and practice harmful methods such as bottom trawling. Much as you object to quotas and restrictions fishers have shown they can’t be trusted to not overfish - sorry The other big problem is increasing water temperatures (associated with global warming) which is probably forcing many species to move north in search of more favourable conditions
@onemanandhisboat
@onemanandhisboat 2 года назад
Hi Gordon, Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate your thoughts and feedback on my vlogs. Trust me, I do know the need for the restrictions...fishermen seem to overfishing no matter what target spieces they are fishing for. ( stupid doesn't come into it🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂) What I don't appreciate, is how on earth a guy sitting in an office, ( that's probably never stepped on board a boat in there lives) knows what what's happening in your area fishing wise?...also...that we are all tarred with the same brush, when it comes to quota. It's a very different system, to get your head around, and even our fisheries officers struggle to understand it, so if they don't know, ( and they make the rules) how on earth is the fishermen ment to understand them🤔 I just think, they should be doing there best, to help boats diversify, so we aren't putting pressure on 1 target spieces. To me that makes more sense sustainably, than trying to get what scraps are left for the inshore fishing sector to fish for. There is definitely more in this matter, which basically boils down to bureaucracy by our government. But that's probably another story to tell at later date.😂😂😂😁👌 Hope you have a great week ahead bud. All the very best. Baz.😉👍

Again I’m sympathetic to your frustrations with anonymous desk bound rule makers but given that rules are a) necessary b) must be enforced and c) need to change as the reality of the situation changes it is not obvious to me how else it can be done. The total collapse of the Grand Banks cod fishery was precipitated by non domestic fish factory ships pillaging everything they could net. As far as I as an interested spectator can tell it seems like Iceland has made the ‘best’ of managing fish stocks and maybe offer a solution which could be emulated
@onemanandhisboat
@onemanandhisboat 2 года назад
That's exactly it Gordon. I totally agree with you. That's what's wrong with fishing..."industrial size"...that's exactly why there isn't harbour community's anymore, and the ones that are left, will not have much longer I wouldn't think...well..at least that's the story in the uk.😉👍

Hi Richard. Thank you so very much for your comment. I really do enjoy reading them, and getting feedback for the channel. 😁👌 Yes, the gear on the ground is a BIG problem, and unfortunately, you can't teach stupid! Hopefully if they watch this channel, they might learn. But I don't blame the guys, they are just trying to feed there families and pay the Bill's, like the rest of us. Just some, kick it out the ball park, and spoil everything for everyone else.🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂😂 Hope you have a great weekend champ. All the best.😉👍
