I feel like nothing more needs to be said 😅 I’m just glad the tank is out and I’ve got a new one on the way. Sorry the camera angle didn’t capture the bulk of the removal process. Also, for clarification, I swapped the tour of Arta video before this one so I could move forward with the new boat on YT.

One of those jobs where ya dont know what to expect but has to be done. So ya just gotta 'dive in' and do it. Having some help is always a big plus too. Good decision to build a new tank cause you wont have to worry bout that for years ! Looking forward to seeing more project videos. Keep the positive vibes flowing and Artha will be just the way ya want her !

A new tank was the best call, even if it hurts the purse. You can however jury rig a small 5 gallon tank in to give you ability to use the motor.

You can weld patches and then get an aluminum epoxy that comes for fuel tank. Also there is like a thick milk that you pour in to tanks to cover it. I use it on old classic cars

Good decision to rebuild in aluminium. One thought is to put holes in the top of the flanges at each end to serve as lift points rather than a bit of twine around the tank. It goes without saying that a new tank gets all new hoses. That was a big win today.

It felt so good to get it out. Good idea on the holes in the flanges. Unfortunately aluminum is not accessible here like I thought it would be so I'm building out of stainless steel instead. New hoses are on my list of things to buy :)

Yes, thank you. I'm happy too that things are moving right along. This is the first of many project videos in queue (I keep Patreon up to date with YT early releases). The boat is already on the hard, I got the rudder off and prepped for repairs, galley painted, moved in, top sides sanded, hull almost done sanded to the fiberglass, sails down, mast prepped for removal (should be coming out next week,) lots of things ordered. There's been a problem getting aluminum so the new tank isn't done yet. It'll be made out of stainless steel instead.

Ah, yes. The romance of sailing the Caribbean. It's all just laying back and sipping Daiquiris all day. NOT. A lot of it is grungy work. It's not work you love, but work that must be done. I hope when you completed this project you did clean up and go out in town and have a said Daiquiris. You earned it. Much love and respect for a kindred spirit. ..... laughing .... what a precarious pose tip-toeing on the companionway sill while hoisting the fuel tank ... sure there were other ways to dismiss the tankage challenge for a few years, you made the best choice being that you are somewhere where you can get one fabricated readily .... YT recommended, so am not up to speed on your story, there, seem to be two boats in the mix .... like your attitude and not afraid to roll up your sleeves and git-er-dun .... did the belly, likey, subby, clicky thingy ..... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

Your old tank looked more like galvanized steel, since aluminum doesnt rust like that. All the tanks on my 38 year old boat are fiberglass, so if you haven't had one built already, that is an option.

Interesting.... okay. You've got me thinking about using the bilge as the structure and glassing in a front and back wall instead. I'll look into this.

So lucky there wasn't a fire. Need a rag in back pocket if working on greasy things. A set of shifters will prevent burning over of nuts. A bit stressful but better to have a safe tank. Protect that nose with a good set of frillneck caps.

Yes, there was in July. Sorry about the bad transition. I messed up a "welcome to DR" transition video when I tried to download and edit it to add a thanks at the end of the video. Because I delete the videos off my phone once I upload them I had to download it off YT but it downloaded with bad quality. I had already deleted it off YT by the time I saw the quality and thus, lost the video except for the poor quality one. But basically, I came to the DR, found the new boat, went on a road trip, came back and signed a purchase agreement and owner financing agreement, and then started on projects. Coming up I do have a tour of the new boat. I'll sneak a short transition video into the schedule mid-week to clear up any confusion.

I have plastic tank half in the boat and half under the cockpit bench above the engine so gravity flow to engine. That bilge space in my boat is empty.

What are the dimensions ‘\” I will have one fabricated in Texas Length/height/width Aluminum is the go to for that job Crown on bottom, I see the fitting on the top and anything can be converted going in the top Mrs artha I love you and your channel you have a beautiful heart and soul and you are definitely (Purpose,fully, Driven) anything to help 😘

what a horrible job, we were all sick to our stomachs waiting for the tank to be free... I know it makes no sense but I really wanted to take a little sip of the diesel that came out the bilge, can't really explain why.

haha! I was so nervous getting it out. It was so heavy and dripping diesel everywhere. And I couldn't see around the tank to see what was going on inside the boat. But, I had absolutely no desire to take a sip of the diesel, so more for you haha

They were very careful to put the diesel in cans, and when they rinsed out the bilge with water, they also put that dirty water in cans. None of it went in the water on my watch.
