One of our largest challenges in reopening the railroad has been the deteriorated condition of our railroad infrastructure - including the track bed and bridges. We're lucky to have a pretty robust roster of MOW equipment, this compilation shows Rowdy and our newest employee, [Chris] Wonder Wendt performing some maintenance of way while we gear up for our Holiday Timber Trains.
We're a nonprofit organization and despite our irreverent tone, we are passionate about heritage rail preservation, economic development, and especially - Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad. Check out more about our nonprofit at whim.org and support us on Patreon: / mtrainierrail
For MRSR merch, check out our website mtrainierrailroad.com - we've got some beautiful apparel based on our "CF&W" tagline and a few pieces for the special foamiest foamers in your life.

@mtrainierrail ideally a full rehab ties, ballast basically the works and maybe some behind the scenes stuff like what's it take to restore a shay vs a normal rod type steam loco

Gosh, so often railroad videos are just of trains going by, BUT this one is really informative & different. It shows us how the RR right of way is maintained. There's so much information here that I never knew. Thanks for a great presentation, Rowdy.

It’s cool that you have one of the older ballast tamper models something you don’t see very often nowadays on the Class one railroads which are bigger in comparison to the tamper in this video

Right on. We're a lot better keeping old stuff clattering than maintaining new stuff. :)

I've operated a tamper likr that with and without the beam. The beam would be infront. It lifts, aligns and levels as you tamp the sleepers.

Great video! How do you dispose of your bad ties?
@mtrainierrail
@mtrainierrail 9 месяцев назад
Good question! We use them where we can in the right of way - helping stabilize embankments, etc., but honestly, we've got a pretty big pile of ties in our yard that we'll eventually need to dispose of. For the most part, old ties are considered hazardous waste so we can't really repurpose them or resell them - making tie replacement projects a bit spendier than in the past.

Would it be possible for y'all to get a couple ballast cars in from the main line to dump ballast with? Even if you could, would it be too expensive/too much to deal with?
@mtrainierrail
@mtrainierrail 9 месяцев назад
We have a few, for these repairs it was easier this way. More cost effective as well.
