So I decided to go back to the stream Alfred and I fished in last week. You didn’t get a video because we caught absolutely nothing! So no fish, no video.
Right from the start, I noticed the water was a bit different, higher and a somewhat cloudy. I had my suspicions as to what had happened and they were confirmed when I got farther upstream.
There were also a billion black flies but for some happy reason, they chose not to dine on me!
I saw 5 great browns, all 18” or so and had the fortune to catch 1. If you go to video 3 from last season, you’ll see the same spot. Last year it was covered by that aquatic plant but this year, because it’s early, no plant yet and therefore a great view of an energetic 18”er!
Messed around for a fair bit of time trying various methods to get another brown but no success as it swam off quickly because of my actions!! Bad.
I did see 1 very large brown, know where it resides and will let Alfred have a shot at catching it. I’ll willingly hold the net.

Hi Paul, you’re certainly the winner by not being there. A billion black flies that day. Just waiting for a billion more mosquitoes! Great to see how busy 1st base was in that Panther blowout…..always loved that rivalry. Hope to see a game. Cheers Rob

Are you using 4 or 6-lb. test? Anything more than 6 and a big brown doesn't even look at it, I find anyway.

Good afternoon and yes, 4lb test as I agree with you on the brown’s vision! Makes it a little dicey if and when the line gets taken past logs, but that’s a gamble one takes. So far, what I’ve caught, I’ve been able to video but the episode 4 of the big female was touch and go as it manoeuvred the line into a big branch or 2 and certainly took out more line than I’d wanted. @@robsleeman I know a couple spots where the current is neck-deep or more under cedar tangles. I'm thinking 8-lb. green line and go from above with jig in olive or brown. No spinner is possible in that cover--you'd lose three to snags before even swimming one.

@@RideAcrossTheRiver I’ve caught some beauty cedar branches in the past. I have a friend who says ‘you can’t fish every hole’. I understand what he’s telling me but because he’s younger than I, I try to disregard his advice. That does however come with a cost as a size 6 Panther Martin costs $6.99 presently. I do tell him that it’s still a lot cheaper than golfing. Cheers

Good day Southern Ontario but my range would be north of Guelph and just south of James bay. Tough day trips for sure. Streams have been great this year and we’ve been more than fortunate to catch some really great fish. It’s special and pleasing. Hi, good to hear from you again. In the streams where we fish, there’s a secondary bait fish called a chub or shiner. They are generally smaller than the fish we’re looking for! When we catch 1, and they’re a nuisance as they steal the bait/worm, destined for a trout, we use their tail as bait. I cut off the end portion and put the hook through the tail. Big fish love eating smaller fish, and it doesn’t seem to matter that there’s only the tail! I’ll remember to show you on a future video. I’ll remember also to mention it in the description so you’ll know it’s there somewhere inthevideo. Again, thanks for watching the stuff Alfred gets out. We both love what we do! Cheers Rob
