Today I pulled the small line I had out for beaver. I made 3 checks with the first check having my only catches of a 48lb beaver and large rat. I plan to get more sets out when the ice conditions improve.
Nice job Jake. I wonder if you should try some baited sets at that pond for rat's since the runs are difficult to find. Anyways, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
+Brandon Penzkover First of all I would look for bubbles but I'm asumming the ice isn't clear for you. Then I would look for logical spots to where they may have entrances, at the end of grass clumps by hut, narrow spots, or if its on a log check at the end on the log. Then I would make baited sets with every 110 you have with carrots or bright colored flagging tape around huts, try to set in deeper water and off the bottom. I also know a guy who does well with pole sets. He uses straight branches about 5-6ft and wires or nails a foothold to pole with bait above trap and then put in water at angle where rat can climb up the pole. It's definitely more difficult through the ice and it's about getting numbers out if you only set baited sets.
