Thanks for sharing some of the “how to” with the signals. I’ve always been a little hesitant of how to wire up signals but you definitely made it seem easier than I thought. Unfortunately they don’t make very many good signal options in N scale. Thanks again for sharing and Happy New Year! - Steve
@@EvanstonSub thanks Daryl, I’ve been following the listings and will check them out once posted. Honestly I’m looking more for the modern day signal masts for my Cajon Subdivision layout but I don’t think anyone will be making them in N scale anytime soon. Makes me want to change to HO scale if I get the chance. Thanks again. - Steve
I'm not sure, of course, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you are working harder in your retirement than you did when you were employed, Daryl. I think you work harder on your model railroad than if you actually worked on the prototype. In any event, the results speak for themselves and it is shaping up nicely. Thanks for sharing with us. Happy New Year.
Oooh i84 and i80 corridors can’t wait to see the finished layout been through there a few times in a semi pulling refrigerated trailers and enjoyed seeing all the up trains running the area keep up the great work
Nice progress again this week! Running trains is a good way to calm down after a frustrating second half for the Chiefs yesterday. No mentions of holding or interference in the video, either. Happy New Year, thanks again for sharing, and go Chiefs!
Awesome job. You can have a yellow over flashing green which is an an approach clear sixty and you can have a red over flashing green which is an diverging clear limited, turnout speed no more than 40mph, if you so desire. Everything runs smoothly and signals look great
WOW! WOW! WOW! Amazing work on the electronics with the signal lights. My mind is blown as that's something I long to do as soon as I have a layout large enough (or any layout for that matter) to do so. Happy New Year and happy building!
The Railroad Co. software for the signals is pretty cool. I installed the Silver version on my empire about 7 years ago and have experimented with different aspects of it. I found how to do the signals for dark territory when no trains are present.
You’re making great progress! Glad to see those signals coming alive. One tip - please insulate those soldered connections on the signal wiring! My preference is heat shrink tubing (3/64” works great for those smaller gauge wires). I use a small handheld hot air gun for crafts. You can find all of this on Amazon.
Signals really do make any layout just that much cooler. Also, old ConRail territories still use two signals that involve a "flashing" Green. The first is Yellow/Flashing Green: Approach Limited. The second is Red/Flashing Green: Limited Clear.
Moving right along Daryl. I’m beginning to wonder if you need a second level but at the rate you are going you might need a third so you don’t get bored when you finish.
I loved watching your n scale layout but i think your ho layout will be even better i have an ho layout as well alot of Norfolk southern kind of a piece of mountainous areas in Pennsylvania i do have some union pacific units i am a big fan of the athearn genesis i do have a few scale trains units as well but your videos are a great inspiration i have no doubt you ho scale layout will be absolutely beautiful thankyou for sharing your progress
Hi Daryl i saw your postings on the Digitrax forum about the signals, they sure look a nice product, the layout is coming aong at a cracking pace, Happy new year from England UK
I live not to far from weber canyon. Im very familiar with all the places you are modeling. I like to go train watching there. Love watching your videos.
Awesome progress and love the signaling system. I'm experimenting with the Azatrak signaling system and still have a lot to learn however I really enjoy this level of realism in the hobby. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing your progress in 2022. Happy Newyear and Happy modeling!! -Jason
Just a note, any turnouts the local crew throws are going to the turnouts for the ground crew we'll have to unlock them before they can throw them. You can simulate that by putting a key switch in line with the circuit and then when the local crew wants to line the turnout it called this factor and asked for permission
Great session. Wishing that I had known about the ways of doing in 18" or less in depth of scene. Mine is 24' sometimes more and I could have fit more running space in lesser depth. Too old to start over. Knees don't alloy getting under benchwork easily. Started my layout 39 years ago and now things have changed a good bit.
Looks great Daryl. Was the clear coating on the magnet wire scraped off at the end of the wire on the Details West signals? You may want to consider small pins instead of the Cat5 wire, available at Digikey. The solder joint is enclosed by the sleeve of the pin and less prone to damage, shorting or breaking. Also, are you using BDLs for block detection?
It's was scraped off. However, it's been my experience that when you solder the magnet wire to cat5 wire or whatever else, any coating melts away and electrical conductivity is good. I am using bdl168s. I'll have to try the pins.
Thanks for the info on your signal systems and great progress qa can you use the Digitrax se8c be used with nce systems my layout is northeast corridor from nyc to shore points nj freelance including nj transit Amtrak and conrail, Winchester and western and Erie and Morristown ho scale
I don't think so. The SE8c uses Digitrax's proprietary "Loconet" to communicate with the SE8c. I don't think NCE is compatible with loconet. I could be wrong; I suggest checking the Digitrax website to know for sure.
Nice video! Glad to see you come on over to HO scale now. Can you do a demo or how to on how you designed your dropset for the layout that's infront of your electrical panel?
Daryl I`m am excited and looking forward to watching your progress. HO is my choice also. What type of roadbed is that? Is it made of sound deadening material?
From the look of it, I assume all your lighting is LED. Correct? Are there details to consider when choosing LED lighting or is any old bulb/tube like any other? BTW, love your end-of-track bumpers. Very prototypical.
I go for 6500K with as much lumens as possible. Although, I am still careful not to exceed 15amps total for all the lights. 6500K is great for photography and videos as well as easy viewing for the entire layout.
Nice progress. As I understand your signaling system, I believe you indicated that the dispatcher controls the signal, but the operator needs to throw all the switches. As an operator, for example, if a switch two blocks ahead is reversed, against your train, then the operator would need to normalize that switch before the dispatcher can code a permissive indication? Or in any case, on a mainline run, the operator needs to get in advance of the train, at least one block, assuring proper switch orientation, before the dispatcher can code the signal properly? Or, are you considering the dispatcher will ultimately have control of both the signals and the switches?
Hey Daryl.. I have 50+ Atlas signals on my layout and was wandering if you ordered the Details West signals straight from them or did Lombard happen to carry them..?? Take care!! David🤗
Football is sports entertainment just like wrestling. Donors and sponsors determine the outcome of games. It is all part of the NFLs promise to distribute the wealth amongst smaller markets.
@@EvanstonSub jet game was an obvious one as well.....,The layout is moving along . I am amazed at the progress you make each week. Your determination is inspirational. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you. 😃
Hi Daryl. Your doing a fantastic job progressing on the layout. Do you build your turnouts with solid points or hinge points? If hinge can you describe your method? Many thanks and enjoy your day. Ray L
Yes, servicing the wiring will be more difficult. However, installing the wiring from underneath is also more difficult. All the wiring must be installed while only a tiny fraction, if any, wiring will need to be serviced. So, I installed the wiring on top of the joist.
I drove out there before when I was over the road beautiful out there you are going to need alot of intermediate signals bi directional from what I saw out on that division I model Provo sub out there thanks for the info
The refs are the ones who need to sit in the corner. Although, that Chase receiver really killed them. Oh well, I'd rather they lose now than in the playoffs.
@@EvanstonSubThat Ja’Marr Chase/Joe Burrow combination will be terrorizing NFL defences for years to come. Both are in their early 20’s; Chase had his best game of the season by far. I guess I shouldn’t be that hard on Mahomes, he did lead the team down the field with ease pretty much matching the Bengals drive for drive the whole game. It’s just that every time I watch one of your videos and I see that life size Mahomes cutout in the view, I automatically think “hey, how’d the Chiefs do this weekend?” And also right about this time of year I also start dreading how I’m going to get through the off season weeks without football once the playoffs will be over… And oh, I think this is going to be my Packers year provided this COVID bs doesn’t screw things up for them… All the best for the New Year and see ya on the next update video.
