I really like the full keel on Artha and the overall underwater shape of her hull. She should be very comfortable going to windward in a chop. She looks like she won't pound at all. I used to live aboard an Eastward Ho with a similar underwater profile and transom-hung rudder. With that long keel, you could balance her on the wind so well that you could drop the tiller, go forward to adjust something, then come back and she would still be plugging along, on course. Artha looks like she will be similar in terms of balance and tracking. Artha is looking very "shipshape and Bristol fashion" (pun intended) with her new copper coat! Great to see her being brought back to life.

I just looked up the Eastward Ho (beautiful boat!) and yes, the hull shape looks very similar. Thanks for watching and commenting! I’m so excited to see how Artha sails. I’ll keep you posted!

A week ago I came across one of your Season 2 episodes by accident. I was interested in your journey & started from the beginning, S1E1, now on S2E35. What an adventure you've embarked on. I have to say you are a remarkable & tenacious young women with so much drive & courage, you're an inspiration. I myself know what it's like to build & work on boats. I've lived on 2 sailboats, one I refurbished just as you're doing. I used to work for a boat builder years ago & have over 200 boats under my belt so I know all to well what it takes to build a fiberglass boat right from the bare hull to a finished product & splash the water. In all the videos I've watched thus far you've over come many challenges. And to my surprise I've never heard you once complain about itching from grinding & sanding fiberglass, no matter how much some one protects themselves you're gonna feel uncomfortable, no amount of protection is gonna change that. Keep your eye on the prize it'll all be worth it in the end plus the satisfaction you did it yourself & knowing every inch of your boats strengths & weaknesses. You are as tough as they come without a doubt. Wishing you all the best in your journey.

@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 2 месяца назад
Yes. Since there are wooden blocks under the keel though, the yard needs to use the trailer to move the boat. There have been some delays so I’m still waiting on that. Once the stands are moved, I’ll start from scratch in those spots. It should be quick though! In the meantime, I’ve been working on other projects so she’ll be ready to sail once the boat is in the water.

@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 2 месяца назад
Hey! I have a Patreon.com/SailingArtha for questions just like this 😃 but I’ll answer it briefly here. I recommend chatting with Isaac at the yard to get the current rates. I’ve been here for over a year now and I’m sure they have changed. People are able to stay on the boat while it’s in the yard. And town is within walking distance. There is even a small trail that is a short cut. I hope I make it to your island too! Thanks for watching and commenting 😃

Just curious, how much would it cost to have the yard do it.
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 2 месяца назад
I don’t know. Coppercoat is a very different kind of application procedure than regular bottom paint and it can very easily be messed up if people don’t have experience with it. For this reason and being on a tight budget, I opted to do it myself with Brock (Coppercoat recommends at least 2 people rolling, so it was very strenuous with just the two of us). So, I didn’t ask for a quote.

Copper coat and other ablative bottom coats are a waste of money. Just get in the water and give her bottom a rub every now and then. I had my Antares 44 for 8 years, she came out when I bought her and came out when I sold her, Opps one other time to replace a leaky through hull
@SailingArtha
@SailingArtha 2 месяца назад
I gotcha. Coppercoat isn’t an ablative paint though, so maybe you’re thinking of something else. The product also mitigates the need to do regular bottom jobs because it’s a water based epoxy resin with copper powder. I’m looking forward to long years in the water! Thanks for tuning in.

@@SailingArtha Like I said, on my PDQ Antares 44, there was nothing on the bottom only what come from the factory, never needed it.
