My thoughts and prayers go out to all those ravaged by Hurricane Beryl🙏 It's so very kind of you both to donate your services to help the victims of this devastating storm! A few boats had the chance to head south to Trinidad 24 hours before. Steve from Sailing Fair Isle was one of those fortunate ones.

With the increase of climate change it’s only going to get worse. More powerful and more frequent cat 3 4 and 5 storms. It’s a sad fact. When they rebuild they need to rebuild with cement round buildings that are resistant up to a cat 5 storm. Normal constructions method just won’t cut it anymore.
@ahminmabed5166
@ahminmabed5166 25 дней назад
Sorry. That's not true. There is absolutely zero evidence of either an increase in severity or frequency of hurricanes, floods, droughts, fires or in other words, natural disasters. Please get your facts right before posting propaganda

Totally agree .. but with more urgency and radical rethinking. Same needs to happen in the US tornado alley ..it's moving as well. Storm surges and rising sea levels bring erosion and ground water contamination of salt water in already maritime zones. The mainland Venezuelans have got hit pretty bad as well. So everyone needs to re build further back and on piles and stilts if floodings likely... The Royal navy in days of wooden ships built heavy x braced wooden frame buildings designed to resist earth quakes and covered in light woven thatch like materials for skins that could blow out in Hurricanes but be quickly re covered and roofed following a hurricane. Otherwise you have to risk building massive heavy structures that can collapse in quakes and cause casualties. You only have to look at the geology of the region to see the active volcanoes and extensive faults. .. just think about the hell that Haiti has repeatedly gone through even before this. 🤷🏻 ... Don't use steel rebar or mesh reinforced concrete use Basalt it's safer and greener to produce than Fiberglass and impervious to salt corrosive chemicals heat and UV even if exposed. It's also available in region and requires only the right grade of Basalt and 10 x less energy and water to make it into a fiber for construction than GRP or Steel or ordinary Cement. It also bends and springs back . Chemically Engineered fast grown timbers can be as strong as metals and rot proof but the technology has to be made available in the region. Giant Bamboo is invasive but Central America has it's own varieties and it already grows wild in Brazil. 🌎💚🧙🏻‍♂️🤷🏻 Meantime it needs elements of community based organisation like the Japanese employ in their emergency recovery...and external specialist assistance ASAP. As one guy from Kurakou said this one is early and bad but there are already two more cueing up out there. This is not an isolated event... NOAA have been warning that the ocean temps have been getting into unknown territories on a Geological time scale. N Italy has been hit by monster cloud bursts... Jet stream rivers in the sky like the Brazilian floods and Australia .. move a couple of degrees and you get droughts and forest fires. So yes we all need to get a grip on the new realitys. Preventing soil erosion and land slides needs to be a priority there's a Jamaican native grass that can help tie the soil back together with a root system that has 1/3 the tensile strength of steel. It won't grow everywhere but it is very successful at tying together steep hillsides against drought and heavy rains. It's like Marram grass can be used to hold sand dunes together. The storms and floods will have swept away and damaged the plastic waste interceptors on the urban rivers and drains in places like Jamaica so there's going to be millions of tons of debris swept into the sea and onto the reefs.. so another issue to deal with or the waves and storm surges will get worse. Medical help, Water, food and shelter fast. Don't repeat the same mistakes in rebuilding. Poor people will need a lot of help .. the bad news Russia has just taken leadership of the UN chair ...and certain groups in the US are going to either turn in and back on their Climate denial fossil fuel funded masters rhetoric or divert attention away from other theatres and bad actors. Collectively this is a time for people who unify not divide isolate and hall up the drawbridges after themselves. Texas New Mexico Mississippi and Florida are all in the home run line for what comes next. Ditto central America and Mexico....

Yes you are so right Carlos. IN Australia it is regulated since a cyclone destroyed Darwin in 1973 (corrected by Ahmin and Eli - 1974) and after that every house built needed to be built to the standards to hold the roof and walls on, and have windows that can survive the high strength winds - a pain but you are really thankful when your house survives the storms.... Ours in Mackay has been through 2 significant ones - a cat 4 and cat 3 and a few Cat 1s that felt like an ordinary blow....

I thought Grenada was outside of the hurricane zone!?
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 23 дня назад
Yes it is officially (as the insurers judge it anyway) but despite that occasionally hurricanes go outside the boundaries humans judge they should - hence the fear that if much harm is done to yachts and claims increase, Grenada will be taken off the "acceptable" place to go during the hurricane season.
