Today we depart from our normal content to start discussion of a serious topic for us going forward. Fire safety and the requirement to transition from a residential home to a commercial space can be daunting. and expensive. We start with the basics, fire extinguishers. Thankfully we have a qualified volunteer to help us get started.
This once abandoned Victorian mansion is undergoing a massive restoration. Designed by noted architect Nicholas Clayton, this Galveston historical treasure is slowly back to life. Restoration of this historic house is not easy, and the extensive yard and gardens add to the complexity and expense. Preservation of the original features is high on the priority list. Follow the journey from start to finish. It’s a tough, hot, sweaty, and very expensive road but worth every minute of it.

You don't realize how big this house is until we see Janie walking around in it. We get to see one room at a time as they repair and work in that room. But when you go from room to room you see just how big and grand this house really is! And to think it was almost lost to termites! Thank you Janie for saving this house. And thank you to all the craftsmen and volunteers that have been working so diligently to save this house.

You make a great point. Our house tour video is not very well done. It was the first thing we every recorded. We should do another one now that all the plywood is off the windows and you can really see the rooms.

He is wonderful. He has such an interesting background and brings so much to this process. One of the perks of putting the house into a nonprofit is getting to work with and know our volunteers. He loves this house like I do.

SO many historic buildings are lost during reno due to accidental fire. I am glad you are on top of it. You are a great example!

We try very hard to never have anything combustilbe stored in the house. There was alreay an attempted arson before we bought the house.

Fire safety is big around here, northern California. In my county, we had the Paradise fire, which destroyed an entire community. We also just lost the historic Marysville Hotel due to fire. But it has been sitting abandoned for decades.

Fire us so scary. We have friends who lost everything in the Paradise fire. Galveston has had two tragic fires in the last year. Getting this house save is a top priority.

I could organize those fasteners and supplies for you someday. I put all my tools and equipment in plastic p-nut butter jars, and stack them in 5 gal. buckets.

Our volunteer Pat beat you to it but don't worry, there's always something to do. I was thinking of you yesterday, the spider lilies started blooming. They look so nice in the beds.
