I went through a period of being addicted to this song making remixes and arrangements... still love it to this day the ambience it has is awesome!

this theme melts my heart....and fills it with sorrow, but thats besides the point

This theme is one of my favorite stage themes, the title fits perfectly with the feeling of the song. Quite somber. Those roaring winds definitely give off a menacing vibe as well, which pairs well with the setting, an abandoned hell.

This song is lovely. I often do tricks on my trampoline or bike with this song playing

This Stage 5 theme is calm but melancholic. In my head, I always have an image of deceased people's souls on a forgotten place, it's quite sad. This is one of the Touhou themes that are more special than usual tbh. Also, it reminds me of the countless times that I died on this freaking stage. xd

It's like a song from a far off memory. There's a mystical atmosphere, with the wonder of endless possibilities that can only be seen through the eyes of a child. And this pays reverence to that sacred feeling. It is a dance of fairies in the night, and giggles on the wind. It is the large luminescent caverns lit by the spirits. It is beautiful

Absolute favorite theme from the entire Touhou series right here. I can't describe it, this melody just somehow resonates with me. It's so cheerful, yet somber, and I'm sad it doesn't get talked about more. I feel like the SA OST itself is a gem that doesn't get talked about enough.

Ahh, THIS song... I can still remember first getting into Subterranean Animism back in 2011, when we were reading A Tale of Two Cities in sophomore English class. Something about the combination of leaving this on in the background while reading late at night, and imagining scenes from Paris in the height of the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, just melded together so perfectly together in my mind. The calm, lonesome, and resigned-but-hopeful mood of the song painted such a vivid mental picture of the cobblestone Parisian streets, where one might expect to pass multiple sites of former guillotine executions on the way to the square on a quiet, sunny morning. Even now, I find it hard to think about Revolution-era France, and the calm between moments of chaos and bloodshed, without also hearing the Lullaby of Deserted Hell in my mind. Maybe it's a strange connection to make, but I honestly can't think of any case where I've been able to more distinctly visualize a book's scenes than in that moment, with this song. And, now that I think about it, it's probably moments like those, more than anything else, that have brought me back to Touhou and its one-of-a-kind music time and again over the past decade. As always, thanks so much for re-extending this and giving me a trip down memory lane!

SA's entire OST is fantastic, and this is definitely one of its stand-out tracks. One of the best stage themes in the entire series imo

I finally reached this stage on hard mode This is the lullaby of my freaking death. Not sure whether that's a bad thing or not.

Currently playing through SA, and I’m not letting myself listen to the songs until I reach them in game. It keeps me motivated to play, and makes the moment I finally hear it again euphoric.

In my opinion, this has to be one of the best songs ZUN has created.

By far my favorite stage theme in the series like, ever, and yet another theme from SA that really sets the atmosphere... honestly, the atmospheric music is what I like the most about SA's soundtrack, and is probably why, while there are definitely individual Touhou songs I like more in comparison, SA has my favorite overall soundtrack. ...also, I still can't really hear Scarborough Fair in this song unless I start squinting (with my ears???) a bit. The similarities are there but it's not as blatant as Eastern Strange Discourse & Rydeen or Angel's Legend & Heart of Fire are.

The ONLY stage in the entirety of touhou where I actively stop shooting whenever I'm safe so I could hear the song more clearly. That's how much I love it.

One of the best stage themes from the franchise ever. It matches the vibe of the road to Orin perfectly. It sounds forlorn, nostalgic, and a hint of danger lurks in the back.

This is my favourite stage theme in all of Touhou. It captures the lonely and sad feeling of what this deserted hell once was, but it is still has a cheerful tone to it as it is now a place for spirits and animals to play.

Reminds me of the unused song from Chrono Trigger, Singing Mountain, which also starts off with nothing but wind before going into a beautiful instrumental tune.

This song really resonates with me for some reason because it gives me strong vibes from Madoka Magica.. the stage taking place in hell really makes me think of spirits being peacefully guided to a resting place. Having ever only gotten into shmups from my late grandfather, touhou being one of the shmups I got into right before he passed, this song really just fills me with so many emotions. Especially when I’m working toward an SA Normal No Bomb 1CC. the way it feels like an old folk song never ceases to stop filling me with this overwhelming comfort; like I’m sitting by a campfire while being told a very meaningful and important story from someone. 1:24 always fills me with motivation to keep pushing onward toward Orin every single time. 2:46 makes me instantly almost tear up after having made it that far.. and then the chilling winds before Orin’s theme finally kicks in is so fucking iconic.

The two best songs (imo) from SA in one stage. They’re not really zun-like compositions -yes I know of the inspirations- but they’re just as good if not better because of it.

One of the *main* themes of Touhou. Same with Bad Apple!!, A Dream That is More Scarlet Than Red, Mystic Dream ~ Snow or Cherry Petal, The capital city of flowers in the sky, The Gensokyo the Gods Loved, The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Saw, and Lullaby of Deserted Hell. Where I think each works: Either A Dream That is More Scarlet Than Red or Mystic Dream ~ Snow or Cherry Petal as the menu. The Gensokyo the Gods Loved as it is. (Stage 3) Bad Apple as 4. (Also as it normally is) The capital city of flowers in the sky as 5. The Primal Scene of Japan the Girl Saw as 6 (I think it's more fitting as a final stage theme) And Lullaby of Deserted Hell I actually think works even better as a credits theme or at least the last scene of a season of a series. It just sets the mood perfectly as an ending type of theme. I mainly got this idea from a Touhou MMD fan series posted by a very talented Japanese content creator named "Giko" (who sadly lost their yt channel) they played two very beautiful remixes of deserted hell at the end of the second and third seasons of their series. It was the first time I ever heard this track too.
