Nice flight! I usually fly jpb63's Lama freeware on X-Plane 11; after getting my flight chops on the DCS SA342L. In spite of some quirks with the FM, there are a lot of similarities and I found it quit easy to adapt from what I learnt on the Gazelle. I've been thinking of going to Phillip Ubben's pay ware for better fidelity. I was wondering if you'd some experience with the freeware, I would love to hear some comparisons. Thanks in advance. 😀

Thanks! Love the DCS Gazelle! Even though in some aspects it behaves a little weird. Talk about an ever-centered cyclic...Ubbens Lama is pretty great. If you"re good with the gazelle it should pose no problem. It's a handful to fly in terms if keeping course and altitude but very good to control in the hover. I can't say much about the Lama Freeware but I could try it out. Is it on the xplane forum? Cheers

Very nice video, thanks. I am happy, because I love this helicopter (I am Swiss and have seen Lama Helicopters in the Alps many times). Looking forward to see the next video where you will go to the Everest Camp Base ! Just a small question regarding the Lama and this particular Add-On. When you are approaching the runway, the helicopter has a tendency to go on the right, which you need to compensate with your left pedal (just normal). But when you are close to the runway, you need to transition to hoover (giving more right pedal and rising the collective), and each time I try that, the helicopter is slipping on the left side and I finish my approach slightly off the center line (on the left). is this a problem? How can you minimize this slipping when transitioning to the hoover ? Thanks for your answers and again, great video and I love the series also.

Hi Sébastien, I'm glad You enjoy my videos. What You describe seems quite normal to me. As You transition from fwd flight into a hover you'd lose translational lift requiring more collective to stop the descent which in turn increases torque effect which then requires more right power pedal to keep directional control. To keep the helicopter in a stable hover You will have to maintain an attitude where the right skid hangs a little bit lower than the left skid. To achieve that I have to displace the cyclic a little to the right of center position. You can see it in the video. This should help preventing the left sideslip as described. Same applies to choppers with an anticlockwise spinning rotor only the other way around (cyclic to the left of center position). Hope that helps 🙂

Once the Controller shortens your call sign so ALC instead of 9N-ALC, you're usually not only allowed, but supposed to also use the shortened call sign. Otherwise, you will eventually piss off the controller. (Probably not a Problem in Vat sim, but back when I did my actual radio rating, they wouldn't let you pass if you failed to do that). Also, if you're not a SAR or Law Enforcement Helicopter, in Germany and Austria you will never be cleared to take off straight from the ramp.

Thanks for the info! I had to edit out a 9N due to a sound issue so there was no abbreviation in this flight. However sometimes I do fail to catch a shortened call sign especially when there's lots of information being passed over. Makes sense to emphasize on this in training. I also believe that in Germany you are not allowed to land anywhere else than at an airport without special permission (or in an emercency) taking away all the advantages of a helicopter in the first place. If as ppl(h) you can only fly airport to airport then why not take a fixed wing. Quicker and cheaper right?

i would like to buy either the jrx bo105 or the sa315lama, which one do you personally find better?
@thenerdyhelisimmer4608
@thenerdyhelisimmer4608 2 года назад
Both are pretty cool. I love the Bo so I fly it more often. Also because it's faster. However the Bo by JRX seems a little too stabilized for my taste. For beginners I'd recommend the Bo105. The Lama is a little more challenging I guess. However I find both birds very easy to fly. I'd say get em both if your budget allows 😃

@@thenerdyhelisimmer4608 can afford one only. sad to hear the jrx's too stabile, as an advanced pilot i hate arcade flying as you can imagine. Also the guy who brought it would somewhat go economical between his projects, meaning he takes the fast lane with copy paste , other than the guy who did lama, working for years on it. I am still not decided, it is so hard. I will check the lama video one more time. i hope i can see some cargo sling operations and things you can do besides flying. hey nerdy, many thanks for your estimation, really appreciate it.

@@piloto_loco You're welcome. I wouldn't call the Bo105 arcady though. It has just a rather forgiving Flight model. And they recently made the FM a little more responsive with the latest update which I appreciate. For the advanced flier I can definetly recommend the Lama. Also very good products are the S300 by Dreamfoil and Cowansims MD500E/Jetranger. JRXs Gazelle handles quite well too, it also has a sling loading feature (same dev as the Bo).

@@thenerdyhelisimmer4608 i have most of the XP-helos, and there is really only a handful with realistic dynamics. cowan i heard is x-box-level. I find this guy a little rediculous with his permenent promotions on each and every hair he curves to be honest. not a day he wouldn't fill the forums with his rediculous udates. i allow top-quality helos in my hangar only, no matter how much candy the model looks. cowan is like a dog to me: "ich muss draussen bleiben". lol. maybe i should release a scenery hangar with this explicit warning table on the door: X NO COWAN. I am sure he stole most of his stuff from Dreamfoil.

@@piloto_loco Can't say I agree on CowanSims birds but opinions differ. What Model do you like best in X-Plane?
