I've now done it on a couple of 9-5s. One I used a screwdriver and rubber mallet and worked the ring around. For the second I built a tool. I did a bit of measuring and found a short section of PVC pipe that was a little bit larger than the inside of the ring. I set it on the ring and marked the location of the tabs. Using a saw I cut short slots in the PVC. On the top side, I cut notches on either side to lay a pry bar across. One could also use a long screwdriver with a square shank. It did take a couple of tries to get the slots for the ears in the correct location. It's not critical to get all of them in the right spot. Thanks for the clarification of the indexing marks. One of the 9-5s seemed to have the assembly indexed wrong on a previous repair as the fuel gauge wouldn't read correctly.
If you don't have a tool to get that ring off do not force it, a great way is to take a set of pliers and flip them upside down so each handle fits in a groove on either side (imagine taking your fingers and making a standing man, your index and middle finger standing on the fuel pump its feet in the grooves on either side) and then use a bar/hammer/length of wood and set it in the center of the plier head to turn the pliers around. (Perpendicular, or pretend the man is carrying the bar on his shoulder if you need to lol) Don't try to knock the thing open or pry it, use this method as it is safe.
Screw driver and a hammer it works. Just remember it has been on since the car was built and hasn't been removed since. Going to take a bit of finesse to get it out.
Hello. Love your videos! When changing the fuel pump, and/or switching to E85, it is recommended to change the fuel filter. My fuel pressure fell after a tank of E85, but a new filter fixed that. Having a restriction in the fuel line like a clogged filter may put unnecessary stress on the fuel pump, leading to premature failure :) Keep up the good work!! Maybe I'll make a few videos about my 93 ;)
Silicone spray is far better at making plastic and rubber slippery than mineral-based WD40 or 5.56. I changed on my 2002 and the only major problem was getting the nipples back into place, probably because I bought a complete replacement part, not just the pump and it was a very tight fit. I greased them with some silicone grease and used a dead blow hammer and in they went!
Bra film!
Could be a silly question as I kinda of know the answer but on a Saab 9-5 2002 should you be able to hear the fuel pump prime when turning the key without actually firing the engine, I can clearly hear it on my other cars just not the Saab which won’t start 🤦🏻♂️
Hey! Just to let you know, there is a difference between the Saab 9-5 models, years 2006-2009 for USA and Canada. This type of fuel pump replacement procedure does not work. The tank must be dropped to access the newer style fuel pump. I learned this the hard way! Believe me, the tank MUST BE DROPPED. There are no quick connect fittings on the new style, so there is no room to be able to take the pump out from under the seat, although the access hole still exists on the body. The tool you would need to use on this pump ring in the video is also not used as it is a completely different style ring holding the pump in place. I managed to use a chisel and a hammer to turn this free.
Brooke Derry you can acually cut a hole at the same spot where the older ones has it and change it the same way.. Trust me, been there done that, got the t-shirt
Yeah I tried the making the tool route didn't work had to go the old fashion way hammer and screw driver which took 5 min plus I had a spare ring just in case, getting the pump out was more diffcult then putting it in total time 30-45 min my first time on my 2003 which I never had to do on my 99 9-5
New(er) to the SAAB family, I purchased a 99 saab 9-5 estate, I have an "check gearbox" light, it comes on with no rhyme or reason, never seems to effect its mileage or anything else... shifts/acts fine. any clues?? (150k miles) Also any chance you could show a aftermarket radio install? Ive looked into it a bit and found very random info, lots of which contradict each other. any help would be great, keep up the good work!!! Thanks from the USA
+alan king Hey Alan and thanks for your comment. Assuming that your car is an automatic, I don't really have any help to give as all my cars are stick shift. I highly recommend that you get your fault codes read out by a garage, without it we won't know what happened. The gearbox light does not appear without reason, so avoid driving unless you get it sorted out.
yes, its an auto... (first ive owned in 20 years) The garage i took it to said it was a "control box" for the tranny that had a loose connection? although he didnt fix it and i coudlnt find it anywhere lol.... ive also read it could be due to vibration if the tranny mount is worn? (was thinking of trying that one.) sport and winter modes both work fine, its never shifted weird or anything. the only thing else thats ever gone wrong was a o2 sensor, asided from this one annoying light its been a pretty good car for my first saab
+Trionic Seven: For Saab Enthusiasts well, I flushed the fluid in the trans and ended up replacing a trans mount, which did look pretty bad, so no the lights off most of the time lol.... who knows. seems good for the moment, so perhaps it was being a bit temperamental.
Hi, have you had a problem with fcod 278 ? Is it supposed to be the water temp sensor since I changed the thermostat 4 weeks ago ? And happy new year !
in 8:05 you said something about a flexible hose, what kind of hose should I use? Should I use a vacuum hose? (The same type you used in your vacuum hose replacement video)
Can I use a braided fuel hose like this one: www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/84015/Fuel-Hose-Braided-3-5mm-ID-x-1m-N2035311/ And do I need to use hose clamps on it? Since my fuel pump is dead and my 9-5 has been sitting for months..
This is similar to the kit I got. www.maptunparts.se/branslesystem/tillbehor/5965/monteringssats-hogprestanda-branslepump.html (don't know if I linked the swedish or english version though)
We're replacing a 2000-year SAAB 9-5 wagon's Fuel Pump.. An eBay listing offers us a WALBRO GSS342 KIT (not the GSS341, that you used).. So, I wonder if the final '2' of mine could imply "KIT" (with a few extra bits, eg, Fuel Filter? etc.).. If not, does anyone in your SAAB Club know how my GSS342 might differ from your GSS341?.. PS.. Your local E85 seems to be 85% Ethanol; in AU, E10 implies 9 - 10% Ethanol..
Kolla short term och long term fuel trim.

I mean damn you pumped corn oil into your fuel tank. If you only broke your fuel pump I'd be surprised. We need a specific fuel rating for a reason. One of them is for knock or detonation which ever you prefer. Also our ecu reads the fuel content to adjust our timing for power adjustments advancing and regarding as needed to maintain the parameters of the ecu. If you have a turbo you need a higher rating because they usually run the engines with low compression and then you either will run rich or lean and then your screwing with everything. Why do people wanna do shit to their cars just to see what it will do. Like you have loads of money to throw away? I work hard for mine. And if I just wanna see I go here to RU-vid there's always a dummy willing to just see for views.
såg denna och tänkte på jobbet att få ut ringen. värd att se, och värd liten sak att göra om man tänker göra detta fler gånger :) mvh ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5xTb1PmOsdY.html
I was stating this earlier. Everyone wants to make the video, but cuts it short on the important parts. Here's where your pump is, here's the lines. Skips how they took it out and apart. If your going to stroke the crowd to follow this far take the time and show them the whole process. Telling someone who don't know how it comes apart to take their time don't help. They obviously don't have a lot of cash or they would have taken there car to a shop in the first place.
