Great video series. Bought a tech2 clone and this video helped me a lot to get the security access for my 2009 Saab 93 convertible. Struggled before seeing this. It is a great feeling to be able to set options that I want or even to be able to try different configurations. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the video. I managed to get security access using VirtualBox with Windows XP and TIS2000. Tech2 was connected to PC through an Aten UC232A USB-serial adapter using USB passthough.
"What was your experience'". Also the old 9-3 9-5 need a subscription for sps- access. 1998 to 2003 models. I had a Tech2 but it was the worst nightmare i had because this clones miss some electrical features the original have built in. I tried to change some setting on even both the models but for the auto-lock feature both models required sps-access. And the chinese clones and their (stolen) software can't provide it. So i ended on a Autel MaxiSys D907. And it works flawless. Extra subscription required.
It usually is recommended to plug power cable to the port on the communication cable for Tech2 and not directly to the Tech2 instrument (the VCI part of it) due to possible problems with VCI. Not sure why it is so, it was just recommended to me by multiple people working with Tech2 for years (the original equipment).
@@TechCars no no, if you check, the black cable that you plug the OBD adapter to it, has also a hole for electrical connector (in tech2 you get lighter cable, battery clamps cable or that house-plug cable). I was advised to use this hole to plug electric charge to tech2 so it's the closest way to resemble having charge from OBD, instead of plugging 12V directly to tech2 body. I was not fully explained why, but the advice sounded really serious, maybe at the old days when this equipment was used in official workshops, there existed some reason for it or advice from people repairing faulty tech2 or what.

I changes timing belt 8 years ago at 64000 miles. Did not have Tech2 than. Recently got one and found this problem. I have done about 50,000 miles since than. May be I messed up the proper location of dots on the cam pullies etc....(a little bit). Please advise other possible reason and fix. It is only Cyl.1. Thanks to all helpers, May God bless us all.
Hi, not had chance to watch the whole video yet, so I apologise if you've explained this ~ I just have a quick question. Isn't there two types of security access? 1) You have to type the VIN number and gain security access for each individual car you wish to program. 2) Full security access that lets you program any car. I've already worked out this first option but can't find out how to get the unlimited security access. TIA

My 03/11 9-3 will not allow me security access on Global TIS, The (Chinese) Tech2 actually is asking that security access via TIS2000. I suspect I might need to subscribe to SPS TIS. To program a new key. Can anybody help on this. Many thanks.
Is security access a one time thing for your vehicle? Or do you need to plug the device into a laptop for each separate "security-sensitive" function you want to do with a tech 2 on your vehicle?
If you're just using the tool with one vehicle it will remember that VIN for the next time. If you use different cars you have to request security access again!
I enjoy your videos greatly. I want to ask if you are sure about the 2009-2012 models requiring GlobalTIS. Just today I programmed a key for a 2010 9-3 Sport (9440) and after making the request to add a key, Tech2 said to connect with TIS2000. I used GlobalTIS and received Security Access 1 but I still wonder if TIS2000 will work. Thank you.
Is there a special tis2000 for SAAB? I downloaded tis2000 and there is no security key to even try and get security access? Where can I get it from? Ive tried downloading it couple times from different places no luck!
what about the Saab 900 NG 1994-1998? As far as I know they have the same ECU (T5-red cassette) as the 1997 and 1998 saabs. Do they need the same software and proceudure? has anyone tried learning a new key on these model years ?

Thank you very much for your great info. In my case, I have 1996 Saab 900 SE Turbo and I would like to add (program) two additional fobs. Currently only one is working well but my second fob is very weak. I need to almost the touch windshield of the car to open my doors. Do I need Tech 2 and such software for my car or can be program them differently? I have few old fobs taken previously from the junk yard from a different vehicles. Hi Richard. Thanks for the kind words. Yes you can use Globaltis for older Saab's as well. I just like to use the separate app TIS2000. The other one is a bit laggy in the web browser since it's using Java, but that's what you have to use if you have a 2009 and up. Good luck with your tech2 :)
Hi. Can you make a video explaining how to bleed the brakes on a 9-3 using the ABS bleed sequence int the Tech2? I have heard that it should be done if the brake pedal is soft and regular bleeding doesn't help.
Hi. I have a modern computer. but I run a virtual Windows XP machine. I have seen that some people use the Tech2 software even on Windows 10 machines, but my virtual XP machine work so good so I decided just to keep it :)

What to do when it pulls the wrong Vin? Not the generic xxxxxxxxxx0000 we backed out of this, but ever since we get a conflict with VINs during security access for other tasks. Any ideas? Searched high and low already before I asked. Thanks, the cars a NAO 2008 9-3 2.0T on TIS 2000
@@TechCars I have only tried the Tech 2 on TIS as we have had it a week only, it looks as if the rrdm has the VIN that's in conflict and it cannot be removed in my vehicle with the tech 2. Is there anyone with info on how to remove the VIN, erase the eprom or any other Saab magic for me? 🤞 And it only refuses security access for certain functions.... We can still gain access to adjust the knock reduction.
Hello! Thank you for the video. Can the Tech2 have security access to multiple vehicles? Or is one Tech2 for one car? I'm trying to do a CIM swap from an '05 9-3 Linear to an '05 9-3 Aero. I am using a Tech2 clone from China, and I've been able to "remove" the CIM from the Aero using the Tech2 clone. However, I could not "remove" a CIM from two other Saabs I tried ('04 Linear and '05 Linear). Each time Tech2 says to use TIS 2000, I've used TIS 2000 or GlobalTIS, and the TIS programs told me security access type 1 was granted, but once connected to the cars ('04 and '05 Linear), Tech 2 said to use TIS 2000 again. I'm wondering if this is an issue with all Tech2 tools, or just the clones from China. Thank you in advance for your help!
Hi. The Tech2 can have security access to multiple vehicles. That's my experience. I've been using mine on several NG9-3's. It's usually a new vehicle everytime. I don't know how many VIN's it can store on the card. Maybe it's related to a write error, when the Tech2 tries to save the new VIN it can't.. And then it doesn't remember it when connected to the car again.. A bit strange yes. Do you have access to another PCMCIA card?
@@TechCars Hello! Thank you for the reply! No, I only have one PCMCIA card. I thought about writing a new BIN file to it, but then I might mess something up and lock myself out of security access to the Aero (or all Tech2 functinality, I don't know). I got some feedback from other Saab enthusiasts and they tell me that I can just physically disconnect the CIM from the junkyard car and then use the Tech2 to add it to my Aero. It appears that the remove function is for the benefit of other control modules in the car, not for the module (in this case, CIM) that is actually removed. Other modules must have updated bus lists - they must know that a part is missing so there is no conflict when the used module from another car is added. At this point this is only my hypothesis - do you know if this is actually the case?
@@grigoriy6516 I've never heard that you can use a CIM that isn't divorce, but maybe that's possible. It would be great, I guess you would need atleast one key that belongs to it.. Maybe someone else can pitch in here with that experience?
@@TechCars Hello Markus. I can confirm that a CIM does not need to be divorced from the donor car. However, the car receiving the CIM needs to have its own CIM divorced from it. My Aero now runs!
Thanks for the very good quality video series. I am in doubt whether I have messed something up as I downloaded a FIN .bin 136.000 to the TECH2 before I even once tried to get the security access.. TECH Wiki says never to update the software thru TIS2000 or it will brick the device...? I bought an old laptop solely for this purpose and I run the TECH2 thru COM1 and the test says everything is fine. BUT. I have no security access (always implies an error that has occured) and it is telling me I have no access to handheld device as I try the TECH2 View.. Help?

Hi Andreas. There are two options here. If you can get your hands on an old laptop with a PCMCIA reader/writer you can copy the swedish .BIN onto it. The other way is going through the computer and some tech2 software. I think it takes ages to write a BIN file through the Tech2 onto the PCMCIA card. Do you have the swedish .BIN file?

i recently got my Tech2 but haven't really done much with it yet. ive been trying to do my own research on things but it all seems needlessly complicated. one big question i have tho, that i haven't found any concise answers to is do you need security access for an 01 saab 9-3? if not fantastic thats a big headache gone lol if yes then what are some things that are locked behind it?

Hi. The VIN showing in TIS2000 can be a VIN from a previous request that was not done to 100%. Maybe that's the case? Also, the communication issues are very often related to the RS232 to USB converter as you can see in my episode #10 of Tech2 for dummies. Thanks for watching!

Hello I'm considering to buy a Tech2 but I'm not sure how easy it is to download TIS2000 on an XP computer? I recently rebuilt the head cylinder of my 93 but the car is not working. It returns the code P0638 (throttle body) and I apparently need a Tech2 to reset the throttle body ?
I use a virtual Windows XP machine. Do you have a computer running only Windows XP? Do you have the installationprogram for TIS2000? Tech2 is handy to have when doing those type of jobs yes :)

Before buying the Tech 2, I want to be sure that I will be able to have the security code. I just rebuilt the head cylinder ou 93 but the car seems to be in limp mode with code P0648 (throttle body). I need tech 2 to diagnose and setup throttle body.

Hi, hope someone can answer this - I have a 08 9-3 1,9 with a ECU thats damaged/dead and the car obviously wont start. I got a used ECU that matches the broken one with the intention of cloning the damaged one, but my question is, will a tech2 + candi + tis2000 let me marry the used ECU to my saab (as a new ECU without the data from the dead one?
Normal process is to switch out the T8 unit and add it to the car in the TEch2. For this you need to have security access. For 03-07 you get this with TIS2000. For 2011-2012 he commented you need a license/subscription from GM.
I haven't testet it. The software has to support the models. Can you get any confirmation on that before you buy it? From a Hardware point of view I think you're fine.
I had the same problem when I installed the software from CD, however I found a version online that worked ~ I can't remember the link but do some digging on a few Saab forums and something should show up.

@@triumphtwin1005 It might be the RS232->USB adapter that is not working correctly. I guess you are using one of those? Tech2 is very picky regarding that.
Hi, Im facing one problem. When Im connecting security access from tis2000, it doesn't show VIN window it only shows "Security access 3 enabled", not security access 1 or the vin part. What could help ?
Using tis2000, not global tis. After I get "security access 3 enabled" and trying to configure my car from diagnostic -> 2000 -> 9-3 -> all -> Engineering tool, it asks the security access code still

Have a laptop HP with XP and i am denied security access no matter what i try. Swedish living in France left car 9-3 2008 to a garage to marry a trailer module to it! Then i got a clone to start to do and learn myself but now i have runned out of ideas! And when i got the car back parking lights rear blinked rear wiper did not work and it drains the battery in a night, and windows live their own life one window can be down in the morning when i arrive to the car. Hello Pal, finally I was able to get the security access ... but how many types exist, coz seems like I got Security Access Type 1 ... can I do everything with this type of access !?
You get the level required for the things that you want to do with the car. If Level 2 or 3 is necessary you should be able to get this as well. I've never been refused security access up until 2010. There you need to have some kind of subscription.
Hi Bernado, please how did you get security access on tis2000? I'm having problems with mine, it communicates with my tech 2, but keeps coming up with errors and doesn't upload my vin from the car to my laptop.

Nice video, please can you direct me if I'm missing something, i have had my tech 2 over a year, saab 93 2005 and tis2000 on my xp laptop, still struggling to get security access to add and remove modules. People say i need java 6 to be installed on my laptop. But my question is what is the list of other programs i need installed on my pc and is there any crack to be installed?
I recall having to use a certain Java version. A version that is old enough to support this I think. @@TechCars thanks for the info, i noticed yours contain the saab bin files, 136, 146, 148, I'm running a 148 card on my tech 2, why do i need the others? Also do i have to have these files in a particular folder in my xp machine? Also why do i need a card writer file on my xp machine?
@@reginaldigweike4002 That drive is not mine actually. It's just a good place to find things :) The different PCMCIA files are somehow for different models, however in the 146 for example you could find the latter models as well. If you're doing 98-2012 my guess is that the 148 is the one to use. I've only used the 146 before I got the 148. The files is supposed to be on a PCMCIA card that you put inside your Tech2! That's why there's a card writer application as well. But for that you need a PCMCIA card writer..

Hi. Thanks for the videos, they’re amazing. I got as far as the VIN verification but even though I already got the VIN from the car on the tech2, the VIN that pops up on TIS2000 is different. How can I change it or refresh it on the laptop?
It seems like the Tech2 hasn't been able to store the new VIN from your car, it still has the old one on the PCMCIA card. I wonder if it could have something to do with the PCMCIA card being defective. Do you have another one you can use?
@@TechCars Got it! I just went, reconnected it to the car, got the VIN again and then re-"pair"ed the tech2 to TIS and the VIN was correct this time. Det beror lite på vad man ska göra med bilen. Det är inte alltid som Tech2 kräver säkerhetsaccess. Du frågar bara en gång per bil och gång. Det ligger kvar tills nästa gång om du inte använt den med en annan bil.
