It's a defense weapon so stealth is not necessary. Stealth is used for invasion not so much defense. The Swedes are not interested in invading other countries. In their Viking days they were into invasions and were unstoppable. But since converting to Christianity they are just interested in peace.
Gripen E/F costs a lot more to buy and roughly the same to maintain, not including costs for pods for the Gripen. Which would you describe as turd performance: 14 seconds 1200m take-off 9 seconds 550m take-off Guess which one accelerates to Mach 1 the fastest while carrying a combat load? Climb rate, combat radius, payload, etc.
@@LRRPFco52 True. The Gripen is a good aircraft with excellent instantaneous turn rate, but beyond that and absolute top speed when clean, The F-35 out performs it in every other category.
@@michaeld1170 A slick Gripen does have nice ITR at low altitude. F-35s have faster yaw rate than Gripen’s ITR, but they have lower ITR. Combat configured STR is probably similar, but I suspect the F-35 will have better Ps at different altitudes that are actually relevant. A slick Gripen should accelerate better in the supersonic regime. F-35 accelerates faster in subsonic. F-35 is doing all this combat-configured. Once you add pods and more than 4 external stores to the Gripen, its Ps suffer significantly across the board, including radius.
Difference is f35 shoots you down befor you see it. Not the most agile jet but combined with 4th gen fighters it's a deadly arsenal people doughted the tornado look how that turnt out
The F-35 is more agile the Gripen. According to it’s pilots, the F-35 combines the high alpha performance of the Hornet with the high thrust to weight of the F-16
F-35A can take off in 550m/9 seconds with full fuel and 6 A2A weapons. You see here this slick, unarmed Gripen take off in 14 seconds way down the runway.
@@michaeld1170 T/W isn't everything. Due to the single engine and canards, gripen probably is the most aerodynamically efficient western fighter. It carves through the air and doesn't lose as much energy during turns. Gripen sacrifices a lot of other capabilities for this aerodynamical design, and the low T/W still is a huge drawback for acceleration, payload and takeoff obviously.
@@devrerffs The Gripen is a very low drag design, I agree, part of what they traded off is fuel capacity, it only has 5000 lbs internal. But no amount of minimizing drag will make up for the sheer advantage of power the F-35 has. In fact the A model’s acceleration is only slightly less than a clean F-16C which is also another low drag design. Part of what gives the Gripen its excellent agility is it’s delta wing and canard configuration, however once it turns the trim drag generated is massive and the RM12 engine is not powerful enough to overcome that, this is why the other 2 Eurocanards opted for 2 engines to overcome the massive trim drag generated by Delta wing designs. I love the Gripen, its excellent. but in a turning fight against an F-35A, the Gripen may have the advantage for the first few seconds but soon the F-35s power will just be too much for it
