every year battle brothers I always put price of a mile for Remembrance Day and cliffs of Gallipoli every Anzac Day I had a funny feeling cliffs of Gallipoli would be about Australian history with the war but I wasn't sure, you confirmed on the Brisbane tour! I wish I was there! Next time I hope! By the way I'm back! I'm really back this time! And as I might of said every year I put clips of Gallipoli on my Facebook and Twitter page! Guys as a Turk, i want to apologize some ill- written comments in this section implying racism, hate or disrespect to the EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER fought in that war, including French, British, ANZAC and Ottoman soldiers. It was an impressive but still equally dramatic battle between the sons of both major countries (ANZAC-Ottoman). There are resources showing that they usually spent time together when they are not fighting, shared cigarettes and food with each other. They have died the most glorious death of all. And i want to say that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, The founder of the Republic of Turkey and a Commander during the battle of gallipoli said: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." So let those brothers who were the victims of cruel hate and greed of humanity rest in peace and above the skies.

+cengiz han You need to learn a bit more on history, they didn't invade for your "honour", but due to the fact that the ottoman empire had chucked their lot with Germany and the central powers, and doing so invaded Other countries, primarily in the the balkans and middle east. your country was part of the ottoman empire that was attacking others. stop whining because your county got a bloody nose from it. the soldiers weren't the problem, its those few in charge or have power and charisma that should be the course of your disrespect and yes that means the ottoman leaders as well. you can be prideful of your country just don't do it in a way where your being well a cunt to those who died. open your mind a bit......

+cengiz han First of all i am sorry for what happened to your grandpa, second of all never blame the crimes comitted by the politicans or leaders to people or soldiers who apply them, there are documents about diaries of ANZAC soldiers who didn't even know where ottoman empire was. Plus, i don't think those soldiers wanted to fight neither. Don't forget the reaction of the leader on your profile picture when the greek flag was laid upon him to wipe his feet: he didn't step on it plus showed his great respect to other countries. I also want to add that none of the crews were turks but the person who gived the bombing order was Enver Paşa. The ships also had turkish flags and the crews uniform was ottoman. This, officially or unofficially making the sevastopol and odessa bombing an ottoman-led bombing

My grandfather became a veteran of this war, then he returned to his hometown of Erzurum, where he was taken hostage by the Russians because he was a Turkish soldier. He was abducted from a Russian prison by his brothers, unfortunately, during which my grandfather's two brothers died. After participating in the Turkish liberation war, he began to live a quiet life in his village, after which he died from a bullet in his body causing infection. May his soul be blessed

Thank you for writing this song. I cried when I first read the words of forgiveness of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as an Australian, I was humbled by the generosity of a people whom we had attacked. I did not know of this speech/memorial before I went to Gallipoli and to this day I do not know of a message of condolence that would better offer solace to a parent who lost their solider child.

Winston Churchill knew the landings were almost impossible to pass but ordered it anyway. so most of us died for no reason. but the fighting only brought us some more legitimacy to our new nation.

He famously told his outnumbered troops, "I do not ask you to fight, I ask you to die, because in your death you will gain the time needed to bring more troops to the front and stop the enemy." My grandmother was 6 years old when his father died in the Battle of Gallipoli. I wish i had a chance to talk with him. Everyone who went to war knew before he will die. Also, hundreds of children fought in the war, this war is the greatest victory and tragedy in our history.

As an Aussie this is awesome, every Anzac day the whole country remembers and honors not only our own, but the deeds and compassion of the Turks aswel, they were an honorable and respectful foe with equal losses to ours. The hardest thing to do would of been to continue the fight after the seize fire had lifted, would've torn that last bit of humanity from their souls. Respect for both sides.

Oh most certainly. But the difference between Sabaton & those that have come before is the vast community supporting them. As Joakim & Par keep saying, there's only so little history taught about other places. With the help of the community, Sabaton was able to surpass all others who've tried and now rest as the top group of the "history" portion of the music industry. But to be fair, it is Sabaton we're talking about. It wouldn't be surprising if they're the top group of all time by the time Joakim & Par have to retire. I mean, they push themselves way to far as it is anyways.

It paints great pictures in one's mind about the battle and struggles of these troops, regardless if it came from a Swedish heavy metal band (of which I love). I really hope you do something to mark this momentous occasion of 100 years since the Gallipoli landings, as it would take things to another level of awesome.

@@metalmachine4433 I think it's because it is a more melancholy, introspective song. It's about the tragedy of war, not the triumph. It doesn't get the blood pumping like, say, "Forty to One" or "Ghost Division." But honestly, to me, that's what's great about it: Sabaton doesn't glorify war, they just tell the stories that are worth telling. Sometimes the stories are victories, sometimes tragedies. But there you have it.

People mostly need some motivation, something that gives them the energy and momentum to go on and deal with life's difficulties. And that's totally right. There's nothing wrong with that, we rarely listen to more dramatic musics, not just the ones from Sabaton, any other dramatic music. Only when the time and life and happenings make us upset. 8th grader turkish here. we just learned about gallipoli campaign in school(though we already learn it every year) and after listening to this song every single time i read or listen to ataturks speeches about gallipoli it brings tears to my eyes. thank you sabaton for making a song about such a historical moment.

A hard rock gem with memorable lyrics. The Turkish commanding officer, Mustafa Karmal, said to his men “…. I do not order you to fight. I order you to die. Your deaths will buy time to bring up reinforcements. It did. The original Turkish defenders suffered 100% causalities repelling the invaders: the ANZAC (Australian New Zealand Army Corps).

UnholyMonk00 Thank you. Just imagine the bravery and courage on both sides. Awesome. The unforgetable lyrics send shivers down my spine: "...Oh mothers hid your tears. Your sons will rest a million years, as foes turn to friends and forgive..." Humans are a barbaric animal where wisdom only comes to a few after many years. Anzac Day is still a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand.

bloody australia and new zealand. Such a great countries. Out of 5 million people, we created a standing army of 500,000. Britain wanted like 50,000 and we trounced that number. Everyone was blown away at the fight of the Australian and new Zealand soldiers. RIP you beautiful soldiers. 100th anniversary next year. Theres one year where you will get the recognition you deserve.

I wouldnt say it was the birth of Turkey. the Ottomans didnt collapse until 3 years later. The victory in Gallipoli is probably the event that kept them together during the rest of the war.

I had a great great grandfather who fought at Gallipoli. He lost his mind from charging the enemy lines time after time. All the while, bullets flying past his head, fellow soldiers dying around him. He decided to stand up from his foxhole and charge, single handedly, towards the enemy lines. My Great grandfather, who was only six at the time, was the one who answered the door and received the news that his father died gloriously on the cliffs, and that he would be given the proper honors at his funeral. My Great Grandfather then served in the second world war, and died on the fields of France. And his son, my grandfather, served during the Vietnam war as a mechanic in Germany. So my family has a proud history in the military.

War truly is a hell unlike any other. At the very least, your Great Great Grandfather found peace in the afterlife. Your Ancestors are truly heroes deserving of any glory there may be in war.

@@anigamer379 thank you. My younger brother is currently in the U.S. Army Reserves. I just hope he's never called to war. Even though he and I may fight each other, if he gets called to war, I will enlist and make sure I'm right there with him "in the shit" as they say. I have Polish Winged Hussars in my ancestry. They have a saying, Shima suyotu noytaso dafilam doritalra. It roughly translates into, "May the lord protect and provide for you my fellow warrior". They would say this prayer before each battle. Kind of lick how the Kamikaze pilots would say a prayer before they took off, it was took with luck to the warrior standing next to them.

I am from New Zealand, and 100 years ago our leaders some how thought that Europe's war became our war and so my great, great grandfather ran to the hills of Gallipoli and threw away his life all for what? We werent defending anything, we were attacking a nation, attacking a nation, on a foreign soil we had no place being. And so they marched, destined for death.

Australia and New Zealand used to be colonies under British empire so any war that involves them, involves us. We also live under the rule of the monarchy. Even though independence was granted to us we have taken on a government style that is basically the British government except half way cross the world, a new Britain if you will. It is our duty to protect our home correct? People still use British passports in Australia at least until at least after ww1. The point being, it is in the past and at that time we are part of the Empire and so, we must rally to the Empire's aid. No questions asked. It is simply a fact that can't be changed, even now if the UK is threatened then we must protect our monarch the Queen.

It has always amazed me that Churchill is so praised for the Battle of Britain, which was impossible to lose and had no strategic relevance, while few remember how he sacrificed thousands of lives on the altar of his pride in Gallipoli.

In the first place, the Germans did not even have the necessary means of transportation; Instead of proper landing craft they had river barges, which could sink unaided by the enemy if they went out to sea. Secondly, for an operation like this you need absolute control of the sea, and in 1940 the exact opposite happened, since the RN was immensely superior to the KM, which always opposed the operation because of that. Third, the Germans had not developed the doctrine necessary for an amphibious operation of this magnitude. Think of the years of preparation the Allies took for Normandy. It's not something you can improvise in a few months. So even if the LW destroyed every last RAF aircraft (which was impossible in itself, given the range of aircraft at the time), it was absurd to expect that it would also wipe the HF off the map. Therefore, what was behind the BoB was simply a bluff for the English to panic and make peace.
