Tommys guitar solos are amazing he writes them, and now that he is gone .. I know that tommy and th replacement guitarist are friends soo.. I'm just glad that we can still enjoy sabaton , majestica and Tommy. His finger prints are everywhere. The drummers is wife nightwish lead singer. He is so humble. So much talent and inter connectedness from that part of the world. I love it❤❤❤. One of sabatons greatest songs!!!

Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 120 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) . This song can indeed be interpreted as being about soldiers in general, but it is first meant to be about the generations of swedes who were conscripted to go out and die on the fields of battle (ot more often by some disease in horrible onditions while in camp) during the 30-years war. Truly "a lifetime in war" as the title translates to.
Or even worse. Some soldiers got women pregnant and they followed the army. You could actually be born into the army, running errands when a kid, then joining when old enough. Never having seen anything but war.
