Gondor never had a strong cavalry because the numenoreans deemed mainland horses too small and weak to be useful and they couldn’t get their horses over the water easily (they were 7’ on average)

The Hobbit films were "so-so". Not great. Lord of the Rings is awesome. Aside from some cheesy stuff they threw in with Legolas. But I guess that's for mass appeal
koalabrownie the Hobbit didn't really do it for me because of the overuse of CGI. in Lord of the Rings the Orcs were "real", as we're all the soldiers (not counting the Rohan charge) and seeing a physical Uruk Hai is just so much more immersive than a rendered orc.
Michael VPS Well the Rohan charge had real people in it. They just populated the army with fake soldiers. And that seemed to work fine, put real people in there, put fake poeple in there and it looks real enough that people aren't going to notice the CGI as much. In 10 years, LotR will still look great. Hobbit will look super-aged like the Star Wars prequels

If i Remember it right, in the books, asked the guards if they have not sworn to protect gondor and that he is going to Do that, by Taking command. Which Was quite controversal among the soldiers. But he was their Best and only option...
