Just a quick bonus fact. Amaranthe did this cover as they prepared to go on tour with Sabaton. That's why you can see Joakims jacket, and some Sabaton gear around in the vid.
Didn't know there was an Amaranthe cover for that song - it's great! 🙌 We'll definitely have Powerwolf featured on one of our longer reviews in the late summer or Fall (picking the three songs to play will be tough...) ✝️🐺
@@MetalAcademix There was actually a short but sweet album of POWERWOLF covers by famous Metal peers released about a year ago, all in good fun, endorsed by the band. The "contestants" include EPICA, ELUVEITIE, SALTATIO MORTIS etc., so you can figure it would be a great listen. Although the originals are always going to be hard to beat - almost unfair. :))
@@bigg2988 Ah, I knew of that album but didn't know Amaranthe was on it - they've flown completely under my radar. I like the Battle Beast cover on that one, but I'm biased because I love the ridiculousness of that song (and Battle Beast :) -Michael
Absolutely correct, when I heard them say it I thought there's only a limited number of paratroopers you can have hold on to the wing struts of your biplane. ;)
"'Death From Above,' what they NOW say." Clever way the writer threaded the needle and avoided the anachronism. (BTW, York was in the 328th, not 338th. Not sure how that mistake never got corrected.)
Sabaton - Rammstein : Feuer Frei Sabaton - Twister Sister : Burn in Hell Sabaton - Metallica : From Whom the bell tolls Sabaton - Amon Amarth : Twilight of the thunder god Sabaton - Manowar : Kingdom Come
When I heard Sabaton's Twilight of the thunder god, I loved it, and because of it, heard the original, and only then, started to hear metal bands with growls :) Still getting used to it, It has been a slow grower for me, but I'm sure many more cool songs will cross my path because of that cover \m/
Sabatons version is especially iconic because of Joakims iconic voice. While the cover is good, it sounds like most other metal bands, it lacks what makes the original awesome. Joakim doesn't need to shout or growl and he doesn't need computer effects to sound amazing. On a concert I'd rather listen to Sabaton because of the unique power and style of Sabaton. I don't dislike the cover but it's just not enough :D
I agree with you. Covers will nearly always be one step behind the original songs. But i'd like yo make a comment :) I attended the Sabaton show in Madrid Last February. Amaranthe played too that night, and I have to admit Amaranthe sounded AWESOME live, even though there was no sound edition, since they are not inn the studio hahaha. I thought they would disappoint me, but I left the venue very satisfied with all bands (Apocalyptica played aswell and they played Angels Calling with Sabaton :D) Greets :)
I love both versions, but I have to give my vote Sabaton. Amaranthe did an amazing job, but what I feel they don't do very well in their cover is telling the story that 82nd All the Way is about. It just felt like a cover.
After hearing Amaranthe's cover I am of the opinion that Sabaton should consider finding a female background artist or something. Her voice during the chorus was amazing! The only thing I liked about the cover better than Sabaton's. Just my opinion of course.
@@HybridHenderson Floor Jansen you mean. She sung in "The Future of Warfare Soundtrack version" instead of Joakim taking on the main vocals. Hannes van Dahl is the drummer
I Highly recommend Powerwolf (German power metal band) vs Epica (Dutch symphonic metal band) on the song -- Sacred and Wild (original by powerwolf) Both version are so epic but in their own way you will love it! Powerwolf had on their album The Sacrament of Sin a second disc named Communio Lupatum, which features Powerwolf songs covered by other artists selected by the band members, Sacred and Wild by Epica was one such song.
More than semantics. York's unit wasn't the 82nd at the time at all, but rather the 328 (not 338, as song says) Regiment. It was many years transformed into an airborne unit. "'Death From Above,' what they NOW say." -- Clever way the writer threaded the needle and avoided the anachronism, yet link the heroic legacy.
I'm back to listen again. Interesting note, Ameranthe was the opening band on Sabaton's 2020 tour, and the record label asked Ameranthe to do the cover.. I personally like the growling voice and I think Ameranthe gives it more punch. Though I've been a huge Sabaton fan for years, I have to give this Ameranthe. Also, when there is only one video, maybe level the field and only listen to both songs without the one video. I love the battle idea! Original
Possible duels/battles: Helloween vs Rhapsody - Guardians Helloween vs Dark Moor - Halloween Helloween vs Luca Turilli - I'm Alive Helloween vs Luca Turilli Rhapsody (Twilight Force vocalist) - March of Time Judas Priest vs Gamma Ray - Victim of Changes Warlord vs Hammerfall - Child of the Damned Hammerfall vs Stormwitch - Ravenlord
I love this song so much. Sabaton did such a great job with it! I am from Tennessee & we absolutely love Alvin York. Also, the actual video to this is better! They said Alvin captured the entire German army & he said “only 132” 🤣 that’s still a lot for him!
You can't dock Amaranthe for the growling. It's one of their defining features. Their niche is having those three vocals, (female clean, male clean, and male harsh) work together in all their songs.
Lissen to them doing this song together in live in Oslo (norway) and then make up your mind. Both of them are doing a realy great job but sabaton Will alway be sabaton my heart vill go with them.👍🤘🤘
Both songs/covers are awesome. No question about it. But for me (well I'm a huge Sabaton fan, but I also love Armaranthe), I find that Sabaton has that energy that Armaranthe doesn't have
Uhhhhh NO doubt Sabaton won that. My son took me last Oct. THE BEST CONCERT EVER!!!!! None of their songs are bad. I want to give you a list but I'd be on here all night lol, but for sure Carolus Rex and the video of Bismarck.
Two great versions, both bands have real banger versions of the song. But I feel like Sabaton is actually telling the story while Amaranthe is more focused of making the lyrics sound great.
Im a huge Sabaton and Amaranthe fan.... I think these two bands give off such a different vibe of the song.. I absolutely love both of the versions.. If I was forced to choose, I would choose Amaranthe..

If you can't decide You can always have the sing together like on the tour in Norway. :) I saw them i Gothenburg myself and both band are excellent even though Sabaton have made my life alot better with great music and history lessons combined..
I love both versions, but for me Amaranthe takes the win just because their version is heavier, more of a headbanger, while the original is a bit "softer"
Sabaton - Radio Tapok - The Attack of the Dead Men Sabaton - Radio Tapok - Panzerkampf Sabaton - Radio Tapok - Attero Dominatus Sabaton - Radio Tapok - Primo Victoria Sabaton - Radio Tapok - To Hell And Back
Both are very good but I liked Sabaton more. The reason is the song is about more than just the music. With Sabaton it is so compelling that I wanted to learn more about what they were singing about. Amaranthe had variety but more isn’t always better. I would never have looked into the story further if their version is what I heard first. It is more chaotic and I wouldn’t really want to listen to that version again. Sabaton I listen to on the daily. They are clear, heavy, and compelling.
The recorded lyrics for "82nd All the Way" mistakenly attribute Sergeant Alvin York to the 338th Regiment rather than his actual assignment to the 328th Infantry Regiment. The band corrected the mistake when they played the song live at Wacken Open Air 2019.
I think having one video and then the album cover is totally fine. Or even 2 album covers to make things fair. I'm always a sucker for more obscure bands and those don't always have a video. I've been lucky to see both bands together on tour this january. They were supposed to go on a big european tour which I suppose has been mostly canceled due to the pandemic. I actually like both bands more or less the same, but my vote goes to Amaranthe this time. I think they did a great job! If you want to do a 3 song reaction of Amaranthe at some point, I'd suggest the following songs: Hunger, Stardust, The Nexus.
Thanks! That's really helpful to know - I think for the next few we'll be loosening up the video requirement, there's just too many good covers out there without them. I've been planning to give Amaranthe a closer listen after this video, so I'll definitely start with your suggestions. Cheers! -Michael
Go Sabaton! 82nd All The Way! Death from Above! Stationed in Ft. Bragg, N.C. Home to Green Berets and Delta Force! Thanks for covering this song. C-5/10 Infantry 1995, U.S. Army.
@Metal Academix during WW1 the 82nd was an infantry division it had not yet been made into the 82nd airborne division it would not be until the U.S.A entered world war 2 would they be redesignated and trained into an airborne division along with at that time the creation of the 101st airborne division the 82nd has the AA patch and the 101 has the screaming eagle patch.
Both versions are great. It really is hard to choose because I have been an Amaranthe fan for longer. Going to give to the original, but if you have never listened to Amaranthe, they got some great music. As for the growls, that is just part of their genre of Metalcore.
As a veteran of the 101'st Airborne Division, let me say that if they would have been blasting that, it would have made it more of a fun experience. Jumping from a C 130.
Like you said- Both excellent! Very hard to choose... if I just listen to the music, probably go for Amaranth, but the video with the image's of the band Sabaton combine with the that typical sound- I vote Sabaton! 🤟 You should do a battle between Sabaton- "Defense of Moscow " and Кипелов band (Kipelov, from Aria) - song about Stalingrad- "Непокоренньй" (unconquerable) - two amazing tunes and also similar amazing videos and themes 🤟
York's group had 6 men killed and three injured. He left the rest to guard the remaining prisoners. York charged the hill and was immediately challenged by six German soldier - all of which he killed. When he was up to the machine gun on the hill, the leader of the Germans surrendered and his men - all 132 men. They were marched back as prisoners to the American camp.
You kind of skimmed over the most interesting part of the story of Alvin York. He nearly single-handedly captured a 132 men in a day. Because of that event I have come to believe that Alvin York is the craziest, luckiest, and most blessed man to walk the earth.
It's an incredible slice of history, thanks for providing the extra details! I was just trying to keep it short...can't imagine what those guys went through. Alvin York all the way! 🙏🤘 -Michael
I really like that Sabaton’s songs are historically accurate. They really do their research when they right a song about someone or historic event. I love both versions.
You should try Twisted Sister "We're not gonna take it" versus Dee Snider's reinterpretation of the same song. Not really "Battle of the Bands" (because of... uh... Dee Snider) but definitely worth a video.
First time watching your videos and I like what I see.. if we keep going on Sabaton you can watch primo Victoria. And stiko-per larsson and his cover of it! He is a swedish sing a song writer and made an amazing cover of primo Victoria
I guess its just personal preference because I love the three very extreme Vocalists of Amaranthe. It makes them the perfekt band for me! Also do you not like growling in general? Because I am not a huge fan of growling but GG6 is the exemption for me. I love bis style and the way its integrated into their songs
Yeah, I still need to give them a closer listen. Like you, I'm not a huge fan of growling but I don't mind it in some Finnish bands (clean vocals in Finnish sound like growling anyway 😂). I think we'll look to digging in deeper into Amaranthe's music in the new year 🤘 -Michael
ALvin York was actually assigned to the 82nd Infantry Division wich later was transformed to the 82nd Airborne Division. There was no Airborne in The Great War
I think it is far easier to make a good sounding cover of a song thats made to get in your head than really write the song yourself so i am 100% with sabaton
Hi friends!!! Now there is a new chance.... well not by the very same song, but Sabaton released new music videos at exactly 8 pm 26 June ...2 different sonfs but at the same second! So please check out Sabatons new music video "Devil Dogs" ....and Amaranthe new called "Viral" ...they are both GREAT!!! sabatons music video almsot made me feel American!!! And Amaranthe lead me to long for there new album "Manifest" which will be released 2nd october allready now!!! I hope you like them ....and I am sure wou will as they are both amazing!!!
I said it when I saw Ameranthe play at Wembley for sabaton, they would sound so much better if the didn't have the third guy doing the scratchy screamo voice. The other two have really nice voices and their best songs are the ones with the least screamo
I agree 100%, but I guess some people like it? 🤷♂️ It's one of my beefs with Brothers of Metal and to a lesser extent the new album by Ancient Bards, even though I really like both bands. Just seems...unnecessary. -Michael
That has been Amaranthe's thing from forever, having three vocalists. And they are amazing. I don't see you bashing Sabaton for having TWO lead guitarists on top of their bassist...
@@jamescurfman3284 Mate I don't bash Sabaton for having two lead guitarists because both guitarists are good. My issue was not that they have three singers but that the screamo parts really detract from the songs. The screamo never really seems to add anything to the song and just interrupts otherwise decent songs.

I do love Amaranthe's cover of Powerwolf's Army of the Night, but what about a battle between Taylor Swift and I Prevail for the song Blank Space or Simon and Garfunkle vs Disturbed for Sound of Silence.
Saw Sabaton in Oslo , Norway, in february. Amaranthe performed this live on Stage together with Sabaton. The scene presence and power both these bands have is truly unique. The video doesn't do the soundscape justice, but have a look. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k2GGYvwwa9Q.html - These bands have toured together and know each other well, if there are anyone that can cover Sabaton it's Amaranthe.
