What’s absolutely insane is that the actual charge of the Winged Hussars was 3 times LARGER than the Ride of the Rohirim from Return of the King. Theoden led 6,000 horsemen on-screen, while the Winged Hussars led 18,000. If there was one moment in all history I could see in person, it would be that one.
@The one and only the polish king orderd them to attack, i believe he did not take part in the charge Sobieski lead the charge of the 3000 winged hussars.
UPDATE: 3 years since I wrote this comment… Im glad to still see the line is held by brave warriors! May the names be forever carved into the stones of the battlefield! Most Songs: *Get Up and Dance* Sabaton: *Get up, grab the nearest armor and weapon and DEFEND THE LINE!*
Raging stormclouds, fire and steel Death from above, make the enemy kneel Thundering forth, shining armor and wings! Death from above, it's an army of kings! (The chorus with a few tweeks by me)
I’m a simple man, I see anything with Sabaton or Tolkien’s works I watch and like. I see the two combined I make a private playlist to watch again and again.
- charge of 20,000 (3,000 hussars) cavalry at the Battle of Vienna - 4,000 Hussars defeated 40,000 tsarist army in Battle of Klushino They were not numerous but deadly effective. Ottomans believed that the hussar horses were immortal because the wounded did not fall, they just ran on.
On September 12, 1683, the Polish King John III. Sobieski lead the army of holy league to liberate Vienna from the Ottoman siege. He led the largest cavalry attack in history over the sides of the Kahlenberg with around 34.000 riders, including around 14.000 winged Hussars. This attack is also said to have been the model for the attack by the Rohirrim on the Pelennor Fields in "Lord of the Rings" (in the Movie had the Rohirrim "only" 6000 Riders).
no supposing. Tolkien was a historic professor. the siege of vienna is accepted as grounding for this. numbers are to be varied, granted, but the concept..for sure! (even though Erkenbrand of the westfold lead a gathering of mixed infantry and cavalry, he had rounded up as a true captain of the mark, following tremendous losses)
Damn, looking at the battles stats we can count that: 1 hussar means: -4 foes killed, 8 wounded, 16 escaped. 1 *winged* hussar means: -4 foes killed, 8 wounded, 32 escaped. 1 *winged* hussar with *Sabaton* playing at a backstage means: -9999 enemies killed, 9999 wounded, rest of them escaped.
A cry for help in times when, Saurons waging war again 2 days of siege, outnumbered again Sent a message to the sky beacons lit, stationed so high On Theoden, their hopes rely against the enemy's burning eye Dedication, dedication They're outnumbered 15 to one And the battle's begun Then Rohan's hussars arrived Coming down Pelennor's side Then Rohan's hussars arrived Coming down Pelennor's side As the days are passing by and as the dead are piling high No escape and no salvation Runners to explosive balls laying deep beneath the walls Plant the charges there and watch the Hornburg fear Desperation Desperation It's a desperate race against the mine And a race against time Then Rohan's hussars arrived Coming down Helm's Deep side Then Rohan's hussars arrived Coming down Helm's Deep side Ballistabolts are coming down from the sky Urukhai are you ready to die? We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye You'll be stopped upon the steps of our gate On this field you're only facing our hate But back home the dark lord's sealing your fate We remember In September That's the night Arda was freed We made the enemy bleed! Storm clouds, fire and steel Death from above make their enemy kneel
The background is correct but missing two lines: Original - shining armor and wings, Death from above, It's an army of kings! Suggested: Shining armor, Gondorian Wings, Death from above, The return of the king!
There is a certain level of (maybe unintentional) synchronicity: The Battle on the Fields of the Pellenor *is* based on the Battle of Vienna when the Holy League crushed the Ottoman siege. So there we have a nice little Ouroboros bent unto it's own tail ;). Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Well similarities are right there: Great city, a capital of an empire under siege - check. Great horde from the east besieging the city - check Horselords come to aid with devastating charge - check
the scariest part about cavalry charge - killed by horse crashing on ur skull instead of the rider sword/spear. that's what make cavalry unit so deadly n so effective in battle. Sobieski n his army indeed had terrain advantage, just like Theoden with his Rohirrim - came down from higher ground n charge into enemies rank.
THANK YOU for ending this video with one of my Top 3 favorite Lord of the Rings movie moments! I will NEVER get tired of seeing Eowyn OWN her Destiny!!
I think it makes more sense for the battle for helms deep to be inspired , maybe both, but I think it might just be similar because it is cool and sieges were routinely broken by liberating armies
The moment you realize that mordors might was broken if not for the arrival of the Eastman. And even then, the damage done to mordors capacity to wage an assault was crippled. It was not gondor that broke the orcs. It was the Horse Lords of Rohan. (Not to disparage the elite of Gondor. But for a ostensibly backwater nation in comparison you would expect Rohan to be able to muster troops enough to break the siege of minas tirith. And theoden said it was less than Half what he'd hoped for. Horse Lords are badass is all im saying. )
-both ottomans and uruk hai used explosives against walls -vienna garrison were outnumbered like the rohan garrison -both rohirrim and winged hussars coming down the mountainside -vienna garrison opened doors and charged to ottomans when winged hussars charged to like theoden aragorn charged when rohirrim arrived -both sultan and saruman sealed the fate of janissaries and uruk hais -after that war saruman lost and turks never able to progress into europe again -gandalf used magic to dazzle urukhais but historically polish metal armor dazzle the janisseries
I want to say to every man on that planet. If you miss to Winged Hussars, i dont want to be in your skin. That how Ottomans Pay in 1683 in Vienna. We will never Surrender/ Nigdy się nie poddamy🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
the battle for osgiliath would be great or helms deep or maybe even the fellowship vs lurz and his uruks at amon hen cause boromir couldnt resist the ring but HELL HE BITE LIKE A SHARK!
@@nurlanquanyshuly9024 HAHA good excuse. Who is winni ng battles? The ones who make less mistakes and thoise who has it more, loosing, soo anyway I respect Turkey, they never accept partitions of Poland btw whats wrong with loosing to Poland which was one of the strongest countries in Europe those times.
Omg this is exacly what i imagined when I heard the song for the first time because I am lord of the rings fan xDD siege of vienna was exactly like minas tirith
Well he went against an entire horde leading the charge and servived the elephant attack, if the only thing that kills you is somone that can't be killed that alone is remarcable.
The best part is that she just wants to defend her home. She's not trying to prove anything or show that she's just as capable as men. She only wants to fight for her people. I respect that. 🫡🫡
Greetings to Poland and his brave winged hussars for saving Europe alongside his brothers Christians to save europe from ☪ expansion from Brazil 🇧🇷🤝🇵🇱. Mt obrigado Polônia e seus bravos hussardos alados por salvarem a Europa ao lado de seus irmãos cristãos da expansão mulçumana boas vindas do Brasil.
"expansion" was doomed. Ottomans could barely work with one another let alone push much further into Europe away from their supply lines. most historians agree on that.
@@theodorebear6714 I am not a big fan of LOTR but when the people from under the mountain come off the captured pirate ships and help out would be a pretty good match
the numbers of both armies would have been 3 times bigger now imagine 3000 men on horses like theoden with wings and steel armour charging towards you men that nonetheless have never seen defeat in their lives for generations
Last night, I saw the Return of the King Extended Edition on the big screen for the 20th Anniversary. This was the first time I've ever seen it in theaters. HO! LY! SHIT!!!! I thought I got goosebumps from seeing it on the small screen!
I'm kinda thinking that the battle of Helm's Deep would've been more fitting with this song, because Gandalf and Eomer were literally charging down the mountain side
