Well, at all times peons and farmers with pitchforks and torches were ill-equipped against the equus-equipped, regardless if liegeman, mercanary or simply soldier - the populus, the plebs never had a chance.
@@FauxReal. Even professional soldiers struggled against cavalry. Since you've got like, seven foot of wood between you and the thundering galleop of a thousand huge fucking horses. Wasn't easy to keep your nerve.
@@squattingcolin9200 Depends where they hit you and the breed. In general horses have one fuckton of a kick and as there most likely half thoughbreds they could kill you.
@@hiutfd7264 I don't know what the protest was about but every protest loses its legitimacy for me when they start acting in a way that police hast to arrive on horses.
Reason why roman tactics are still used during riots they are effective ever wondered why riot shields and gear is very similar if not directly linked to roman .armour and equipment
Yep, medieval tactics are indeed very effective in keeping unarmed peasants under the boot. Doesn't work in countries where 2A and human rights exist though 😂
Imagine the police captain riding along the line making a battle speech before the charge Also love the police on foot moving out of the way like: "The cavalry has arrived!"
@@witoldtadeusz they were lmao, no matter how hard you train your horse and horsemen it doesn't make them invincible, or were they cheap enough to simply be sacrificed against peasants with sticks. In fact suicidal charges into thick spear formations rarely commenced in history, and often ended badly for the horsemen. Their successes came from the initial shock of the skirmish before impact/ forcing enemy to halt or break and allow the archers to pick at staggered formations. If the infantry formation doesn't budge, the cavalry would simply pull away at the last possible moment.
@@mr.monhon5179Yet If you want to attack an innocent horse. Yes those horses are still innocent because they are animals and the one to blame are those police officer. Then be prepared that even in demonstration community will go against you...

There's also the theory that the wings also prevented the horses from getting exhausted by not letting them run too fast (wind pushing against the wings) because the Hussars relied on continuous long charging attacks
wings are a myth and the hussars did not use them during the battle, they were a symbol of the Polish white eagle and used only during parades, however, as to the noise that some people say, which was supposedly produced by the wings, it was caused by pennants on the lances, unfortunately I do not remember the specific name those pennants
@@demolker132 It's not exactly "myth" they were used mainly on parades but one the battlefield also "which was supposedly produced by the wings, it was caused by pennants on the lances," this is the myth, that the noise was an element of psychological battle, no it couldn't be heard on the battlefield
@@fckprc8149 Pikes* Then we have something that is actually going to threaten a Horse Charge then again, the protestors are getting gunned down if they are bringing actual weapons along in this scenario.
Watch all the coverage of the charge, the police horses are actually driven back in the end. It was a wild demonstration. No one at all expected trouble.
@@davedavids57 Considering it’s a tightly packed crowd that they are trying to disburse and not literally trample and cut down, I’m sure the Horsemen wouldn’t be able to keep them separated for that long if they have the spirit to hold their ground. Besides they still separated when the horses came charging in and only pushed them back when the Horses stopped charging.
Horses have always been a symbol of tamed strength. If you don’t provoke it, it refers to you. But if you provoke its ire… Well expect a broken rib cage.
actually armed, like with submachineguns, would have made a horse-bbq real fast. the reason western tanks get destroyed in ukraine, although they were thought of as indestructible previously, is because they don’t bully unarmed opposition around, but actually a competitive rival that has the means to defend themselves
@@gonozal8_962 dont even need submachine guns. Just get some long pointy boys in your hands or some wooden ground pointy boys on the ground and see the chaos unfold
Well the fact that if you are shoving against the riot police not much is likely to happen unless you really piss them off. Where as annoying a horse is a swift way to get kicked in the head and suffer brain damage
I don't see how that would be a shock today. Just because we regularly surround ourselves with 1.5 tons of metal, doesn't change the fact that horses are bigger and stronger than humans (and have a mind of their own).
erm.... the man on the horse is 3m high. the horse is huge. it weighs 300 to 400kg (plus rider). And all that it is coming at you at 30 miles an hour. 6 million years of evolution means that when this happens, your brain will say RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN and you will not be able to stop that urge. Guaranteed.
unfortunetly no, when you look closely you see how it is bad pasted and red is little diffrent, also bbc have own font not the standard who everyone uses
It is kind of horrifying that the government feels it is necessary to use such dangerous tactics, though. Charging horses can easily create a crowd crush or stampede that can injure or even kill dozens to hundreds of people depending on the crowd size and density.
@@samiamrg7 The crowd that's just in view of the camera is almost 1000 people and they were throwing stuff at the police. It was already a dangerous situation. They needed to be dispersed
@@henrymccoy2306 Well, it’s a good thing the police have helmets and body armor, isn’t it? Can’t say the same for the civillians. Escalating the situation by sending in horses doesn’t make things _less_ dangerous. The police very often inflame crowds like this by penning them into confined areas, neglecting the part where you leave them avenues to disperse.
@@samiamrg7 Riots are always dangerous for both sides, dispersing and controlling the crowd is pretty important, you are right though that many people can get harmed or killed by such tactics, but otherwise attempting to defuse hundreds of angry people throwing firebombs, tires, and other stuff at the police isn't really easy to negotiate with.
@@anotherplague it depends. When talking about hussars specifically - yup, about 400, a tad more. When talking about horses as weapons - yup, about 4000 - ish.
Only one side is armed here.... the brits got their weapons taken long time ago and now they have no chance against a tyrannical government that does more to protect foreigners than their own people
You should see japanese protesters, they are so well organized, they hold formations when protesting. Theres videos about police training especially against those formations
@@Hangman11 never compare Japan and Japanese people with anybody else. They are special and different to the rest. Of course they are well organized even on demonstrations. You ever been to japan, that is normal there?!
I lived in Japan for years- went to a local football game once (American Football, it was a trip). Anyway, even the crowd cheers were in formation. When we started yelling like Americans, the looks the cheerleaders gave us..
Cavalry has been the deciding force at the end of most pre-modern battles. The times they were used at the start of the battle, before the infantry has been sufficiently attritted, not so much.
Remember folks, if something makes a sudden, loud enough noise near a horse, you have a chance of seeing the most hilarious thing that can happen to mounted cops.
To be fair the student protestors completely destroyed the police that day. If you watch the full coverage of the police horse charge, they don't have anywhere to go and they are driven back with one officer being seriously injured after he falls off.
0:20 - I love how when the guy throws that stick or whatever at the mounted cops, one dodges back, the stick falls between his and the next horse, and you get a splitsecond of him looking over like, "Who the FUCK dares?!" before it switches over to splitscreen.
I love the people in the comments like "lol look at them running!!!" like... yeah? You have a huge horse charging at you and you're unarmed. What the hell are you gonna do, hit it with your sign?
honestly it seemed kinda ineffective to me, as the crowd didn't seem to really start running at all, and just made a whole and surrounded the horses, with no seeming intent to give up
@@OR56 mmm more like they didn't want a bill that could triple their tuition fees to pass. Though, I don't know all the facts. _Maybe_ , the students weren't protesting in the "correct" way. Still feels weird to use Calvary to me. @@dazeyndrowsy *cavalry* I know, I read your comment, and I sound like the nerd emoji for correcting a spelling error, but there is a large difference. Cavalry are horse mounted troops, Calvary was the hill Jesus was crucified on. We are also missing key context here. This was a BLM protest I think, and they, as usual, were causing trouble, there were members from known anarchist groups there as well. And they attacked police officers once they arrived on scene. Same strategy as 500 years ago. Hold the line! Horses are Flight animals they wont charge into a crowd of a 1000 people if you stand your ground. But like back in the days morale is a huge problem
