@@bentaylordrums I don’t think they would compare apples to oranges, and I looked it up and seems they are B20. So the Stratus are a great sound at this price point.
Agree, personally I think they could have just called them AAX Stratus. They've basically upgraded HHX into Artisan territory, and these seem like an upgrade on AAX even at a lower price point
@@presterjack9764 Yeah these are sounding like discount HHX cymbals and they still have XSR which is like discount AAX. Glad to see Sabian committing to some cheaper stuff. Prices in Canada for cymbals is getting crazy these days
Sabian makes consistent great cymbals. I do wonder if these fall into AAX or HHX? And would be great to see comparison videos from Memphis, playing a new stratus next to the other lines from Sabian.
Totally agree, although I imagine they wanted to stay away from SBR to avoid confusion. It's weird though having 7 series all with 2 or 3 letter names, then just one slapped in the middle that doesn't. I guess they really want it be seen as it's own thing and not "budget HHX"
They sound great! That will be a great line for Sabian. except the china. The big 3 can't seem to figure how to make a nice dark, trashy (not harsh) china. eg: wuhan, Meinl dual, anything from Istanbul. all great. Sabian,Zildjian, Paiste, cheap sounding trash can lids...junk. subjective opinion, of course.
hahaha on the contrary, I have the china and it's actually the only cymbal I like from this line! Mine sounds like a Paragon but a little cleaner (less oriental, more pre/eq'd) and with less low end, I think it's versatile and recording friendly. I just did an EP with it and I got compliments from the engineers, it's loud enough but doesn't overpower at all like other chinas I've had
I love Sabian, but this is a very odd product line in my opinion. As always with mid-shelf gear the price is not really that budget friendly for the quality you get. The sound is not that great, the logo and hammering is kinda goofy and amateurish looking. At sweetwater prices 14/16/18/20 set of stratus is 1,178$. And then, the top-of-the-line, beautiful sounding, crazy versatile, professional 14/16/18/20 set of HHX Complex is 1,360$. But let's make the prices even more comparable - I would 100% spare one crash and get 15/19/22 set of HHX Complex for 1,180$. The cymbals you won't be ashamed of at any live or studio gig, that will last you forever, with higher resell value. The quality gap here is enormous.
The logo looks like its from 1989, they have a limited frequency range, they are priced horribly. Also if im buying "this exact cymbal" shouldn't I get demo pricing?
