I love this. I used to see negative in other religions but I have a strong faith and I understand now that God wants a relationship with us not just religion. I have had my own challenges with religious people and I have been living in fear. I believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus love all of us. Different beliefs I've come to realize don't really bother me as much as disrespectful curiosity or intolerance, even as a child it was the latter I found more offensive. I didn't know much about other faiths. I have strong feelings and I found it difficult to accept ideas and views different from my own. I always loved people. But I've been going through a time of self discovery and I'm coming to find some things resonate more than I thought they would. Intolerance and curiosity that is making light of what is sacred I can't stand. That's why I am not very open as a member missionary. I love to talk about the gospel but there are a lot of things in the gospel that are very personal to me. I am very careful with any conversation about the temple. I just tell people it's special and sacred so if someone wants to know more about the temple or prepare for entrance I'm not the best person for them to go to on that. I made covenants there and they are very personal to me. People have asked me about what I wear under my clothing and that question hurts my feelings. I try to be polite and straightforward without giving details and once a man I know asked me what I was wearing and I politely let him know that question was inappropriate

Depends what form of Buddhism you’re looking at.. there’s a lot of Buddhist sects with gods/ goddesses..some of which are symbolic I guess..but they are still there.. just take “Mara,” for example the demon-god that tempted Buddha, and holds the reigns of rebirth.. and even in the type of Buddhism that you are referring to, it’s more along the lines of not focusing on god, “a supreme ultimate being,” but rather focusing on yourself to become like “god,”.. to become enlightened and eventually reach the point of no rebirth. Buddhists do believe in different realms however.. and in them consist of god-like or Demi-god like beings.. one part of their heaven is even called the “realm of the gods.” However these “gods,” are merely advanced beings who are still mortal but live a very long time in a heaven-like ultimate tranquility.

The Buddhist robe is not part of "a rich tapestry of human devotion to God." There is no personal God in Buddhism. Buddha is not worshipped. He was not a God.

Yes Buddha wasn't a God nor claimed to be but they who follow the teachings of Buddha worship him as a form of respect with certain gestures, incense dietary laws and a way of life and so forth. And there rich tapestry clothing is part of their inward devotion to Buddha's teachings and way of life. There is a lot of symbolism in Buddhism as in all religious worship. Yes indeed it is a form of worship and reverence. I had the privilege of being invited to there prayer service when in Henan China. It was very early in the morning just a little after 5am we had to be there. It was very interesting. It was about an hour or so long. Doing prayes and bowing multiple times and so forth. They show a great reverence and devotion to Buddha's teachings which is their way of life for their inner being their spiritual being.

Hi Viviene, thanks for your question. Church members who have been clothed with the garment in the temple have made a covenant to wear it throughout their lives. This has been interpreted to mean that it is worn as underclothing both day and night. This sacred covenant is between the member and the Lord. Members should seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to answer for themselves any personal questions about the wearing of the garment. When the garment must be removed, such as for swimming, it should be restored as soon as possible. If you listen closely, you hear subtle points of religious ecumenism, intentionally echoed throughout the video to acknowledge that all religions though superficially different, are fundamentally the same. Is Jesus the only way to God the Father? Is there only one name under heaven by which all man can saved? Would all else perish unless justified by Christ’s work on the cross? This is the compromise my dear friends. PS: Would love the channel’s admin to respond.

A friend of mine compared Mormon temples to Pyongyang. You have to be obedient to the leaders to get inside and they set the requirements. It is considered the highest honor to be allowed inside. People from outside the system (not obedient to the leaders) only rarely, if ever, get to visit under strict supervision. The life inside is for the most part "classified" and the authorities try to be the sole source of information about the happenings inside. He went on like that, I don't remember everything unfortunately. You guys think this is a fair comparison to make?
@churchofjesuschrist

Hi @ooficer, thanks for your comment and your interest in better understanding the temples of our faith. Like in ancient times, we consider temples to be literal houses of the Lord. They are a place of holiness and peace separate from the world, and only members of the Church in good standing are allowed to enter. However, visitors of all ages are invited to free public open houses held for most new or renovated temples. You and others interested can learn more about temples, and even watch a virtual tour of the interior of a new Latter-day Saint temple in Rome, at the link below: newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/topic/temples We hope that helps!

This is definitely far from the truth. Leaders are only there to help guide us to live a life worthy to be in the presence of the Lord. This is in teaching repentance and belief in Christ and trusting in His Atonement. Those who are worthy to enter the temple can do so whenever their time permits and the temple is open. What happens inside is kept, for the most part "secret" but most of what happens inside the temple is in the Bible/Doctrine and Covenants and on printed books from the church. It isn't that we keep it secret so that we can hide it from people. We keep things incredibly sacred out of the view of the world because of their disrespect for those things that should be kept holy. Kinda like when Christ said don't cast your pearls before swine. It isn't about obedience to our leaders... it is about following Christ's example and becoming like Him more and more each day.

Hi Cavita, thanks for your question! Members of the Church who are at least 18 years old may receive their temple endowment if they are faithful and prepared. Because temple ordinances and covenants are sacred and have eternal significance, members must be worthy and sufficiently able to understand the solemn responsibilities they will accept as they make covenants with God. Members who have received a mission call or are engaged to be married in the temple may receive the endowment. Bishops can also counsel with other adult members who wish to receive the endowment. We hope you will talk with your local leaders about how you can prepare to attend the temple and receive your endowment. The robes and symbolism behind the temple is not for God... it is for us. Symbolism helps us remember our covenants and the great things the Lord has done for us. They help us remain pure and follow His example more closely. God always worked with such symbolism... in the New and Old Testament. Inoe Yu A very good point ! No, they don't believe in a personal god. Having said that, there are plenty of similarities between the purposes of the clothing used in some of the world's 'religions', even between Buddhist monk and Latter-Day Saints in their temples. For example (not mentioned in the video), the Buddhist monk's and Latter-day Saints robe colours serve as reminders (orange reminds the Buddhist monk of a flame, representing truth; Latter-day Saints temple robes are white representing purity). Also, both are simple and 'unworldly', providing a uniformity (e.g. I am not better or worse than others in some way because of what I wear).

Devasya Jarrett. The church isn't lying if some member misunderstood something. This video directly taught our beliefs about whether there is any power in the garments. There is none. They aren't magic. Members believe God will give us more protection with the garments on. But it isn't an absolute guarantee. We believe righteous people have been allowed to be killed while wearing their garments.

The garments are a constant reminder of the promises we make to our Heavenly Father to overcome satans temptations and to live righteously. The constant reminder of those promises (by having them on our bodies) is what "keeps members safe" spiritually from falling into temptations. Does this make sense?

Tay-Dor the way I’d answer this question is that this video has been released to help those who don’t dig deeper to understand things that look bizarre to them. Tay-Dor I think because we’ve seen historically how misunderstanding, misconception, and misinformation can prevent accurate communication. We do have a lot of differences from other religions, but we also have a lot in common. Many people who hate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints try to exaggerate the differences and cause devisions between members of the church and other people. By highlighting our similarities we’re able to help those who know little about the church understand us a little better, and prevent unnecessary conflict.

Where in the world did you get this false doctrine? Didn't Jesus say, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (no exclusions). Did he tell the rich young man, after he asked Jesus what he needed to do to gain eternal life, to keep the commandments? (no exclusions).

Yes but as a christian you do not wear undergarment with masonic sympols in it ! Does not say everything about the Mormonchurch ? Everything in the Temple is about freemason idiology !

Hi @pilgergufy, thanks for the opportunity to clarify our beliefs and practices. Latter-day Saints are Christians, and our temple worship points us toward Jesus Christ. During temple ordinances, men and women covenant with God to obey His laws for the purpose of gaining exaltation through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We recommend you or others interested in similarities and differences between masonry and Latter-day Saints' temple worship learn more at the link below: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/topics/masonry?lang=eng Have a great day!

It's a shame to see women with there heads uncovered and wearing worldly clothing during prayer.

Totally unbiblical. "You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” Mark 7:8

Temple worship is TOTALLY BIBLICAL. And I'm surprised that Protestant, Evangelical and Catholic Christians have never built temples and participated in temple ordinances. When Jesus called out the money changers in HIS temple he said, "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer." My House = Holy Temple. Christians build temples.

I like how it's emphasized that Mormons are just people in need of symbols and rituals. It was kinda refreshing to not have this emphasis of "we have the one and only true way of doing things". However, I was shocked they actually showed the temple clothing and under garments! I've been told all my life that was a no go. Even now being ex Mormon I wouldn't do that out of respect, and yet this church now does exactly that which it told its members not to do. Again it's being reactive instead of pro-active. Where's the prophetic gift at the head of this church? Aren't they supposed to see ahead like watchmen on a watch tower? Yet, it seems they're constantly lagging behind the facts. I only left 3months ago and these things still disappoint me. But it's nice to be confirmed in my decision to leave, one I did make with God who gives freely to those who ask.

There is a difference between sacred and secret. There are specific potions of the temple ceremony that are only to be had within. However, a majority of the doctrine may be disused openly, provided it is done appropriately and with reverence towards God. The Church being open about this is not a new concept, the original video was released in in 2014, newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/temple-garments

Hi @Our Hope is in Jesus, not religion, thanks for tuning in to the video. This video is actually an update to a 2014 Church video about temple garments, which also included imagery of temple garments and ceremonial clothing. The video was originally published to provide more accurate information on the Internet about temple garments. There is nothing magical or mystical about temple garments, and Church members ask for the same degree of respect and sensitivity that would be afforded to any other faith by people of goodwill. You or others interested can learn more about the purpose of the video here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/church/news/church-produces-video-on-sacred-nature-and-purpose-of-temple-garments?lang=eng

@@churchofjesuschrist Just because the lds church has been reactive before doesn't make it right. Justifying it by saying it's sacred, not secret makes no sense when you can't even see the (under)clothing in the lds store without logging in with your membership number. Showing people's underwear to the world is disrespectful in any culture, just because the haters are doing it doesn't mean the lds church should do it as well. I felt violated in my privacy watching this video and was happy I could remind myself "that's no longer about me". However, as said, the first part of the message was great. Acknowledging it's all born out of a human need for symbols and rituals. Emphasizing the commonalities with others instead of the differences.

@@ourhopeisinjesusnotreligio9116 I found it informative and clear. The Church showing the clothes we wear isn't a violation because it's not about the clothes.. it's about what they represent to us. It takes away the percieved mystery and, in plain and simple explanation, the video educates those that get false imagery and information from other sources. I thought it was done beautifully.. not disrespectfully.
