What a beautiful exchange in the end that Ali Sethi produced a nice explanation for final years of Manto's life and Javed Akhtar acknowledges he learnt something new and changed his mind. that is how exchanges should be. So happy this example was set.

Well,Manto has to be understood,by understanding his intellectual formation. He was an extremely sensitive person,who felt the pain of the oppressed,and thus expressed his anger,agitation,and left it to the sensitized individual readers thus,to think what should be done. This was exactly the progressive,Marxist line of literature. Thanda Gosht was never obscene,neither the others,but then other male writers camouflaged the words,which an activist Manto didnt wanted to do. And that was ok,he was after all a different person. With progressive writers his differences were mainly because of the attitudes,the human factor,on both sides. Plus,Progressives wanted him to focus more upon description of oppression and exploitation,and where needed avoid such uproar which the first progressive publication Angaaray got. But Manto,too,was adamant,never accepted criticism warmly. So these issues aren't important actually in understanding and also following Manto in expressing truth,realistically,in whatever way present today. And this is why Manto is relevant still,because still truth is concealed and distorted which Manto couldn't do. Must say,except Javed sb,the other two youngsters,have a very vague insight of Manto. Either they need more prep,or alter their ego and bias. Manto,was rightly described by another legend,Javed sb only,in this talk.

Anyone can criticize anyone. In fact, I love critiques when they are done well. One can learn so much. But I am quite puzzled by Farooqui's critique of Manto. I wonder when Mr. Farooqui watches himself in this video; what does he really think? Actually, he is revealing much more about himself than Manto. If one looks at the way the way he is sitting here, the way he says what he says, the way he makes sentences, I wonder if he is qualified to critique Manto. I guess if I were him, I would not even speak in front of Javed Akhtar, forget about critiquing Manto. Watching this video I felt so embarrassed each time Farooqui opened his mouth and cringed where he talked about Manto's 'mindset' and mimicked Manto's manner of speaking.

Javed Akhtar sb,is Javed Chaudhry too ?

Perhaps we see that way because we think that Javed Akhtar is some legendary genius act. well he is not at all. farooqui is not in awe of javed akhtar and correctly he is not giving him that star status which has clearly shocked javed akhtar. i think farooqui calling javed akhtar chaudhry was in bad taste.

Musharraf should have given instances of misogyny in Manto's writings. Without any evidence it appears,he has an un logical bias towards Manto. Manto had weaknesses,but then they were because of personality,his anxieties,and his commitment to his humanist creeds. Manto,never criticized himself,why ?
