I saw you on this day!!! I was the girl with the little white dog, you helped me find the blazes while I was down-climbing. We completed the Great Range Traverse on this day and your video of the traverse was one of the ones that inspired me to attempt the traverse. How cool that I ran into you and didn’t even know it! I appreciated the help with the route finding. Keep making these awesome videos :)
Beautiful scenery! Great introduction! Thx so much for showing that! I am a little squeamish about heights, but you give a great guide how to do it and not freak out!! lol! Thx so much!! Looking forward to doing Saddleback now!❤
This is great. Very informative and the most comprehensive video I've seen of the cliffs. It also really confirmed to me that I made the right call for my scared-y self in doing Saddleback by itself as an out-and-back from the Orebed side!
Hey, Jonathan! I was in Lake Placid all of last week with my two sons (17 and 20), hiking and climbing the ADKs. I had not heard of you, but picked up your book at the book store on Main Street and folks there told me about your channel. And here I am. Great content, hoping to meet you next time we are up there in God's Country. Peace.
Clearly the hardest section of the ADK46 (Also a 46ers). These cliffs are something. Doing it by the other side is what I tell most people who aren't feeling safe with it. Great video!
THIS is a phenomenal video, I did the Gothics cables for the first time this weekend and I was more nervous about Saddle back than the cables. Your tutorial, which I can only imagine how many extra climbs you took to move the camera, makes me feel much better about the cliffs. Side note, I still want the epic video's, music and views. However, I think these safety videos are serving a greater purpose. Keep up the great work.
Awesome video! Very informative. Wish I saw this before I did them a month ago! Can you do a video showing the best way through the floating logs and the Couchsachraga bog? those are the ones that were the most intimidating to me and I'm not thr only one.
For some reason when we hit the steep climb, we were too tired and couldn't imagine the route up. We wound up following what I once saw documented as "The Winter Ascent" route, which was way less exposed and seemed more manageable. There was one spot where my wife had to stand on my bent knee to reach a step, but I managed to muscle my way up. Was curious if you've seen or heard of this route. I only ever saw it once on the ADK High Peaks Forum.
There is a winter alpine route to climber’s right, it makes sense to use it when there’s a snowpack in and you can’t follow the blazed route. But three season climbers shouldn’t seek it out in order to avoid the cliffs. If you miss it, you could find yourself in a much more exposed climb plus you’re more likely to trample vegetation. Like JZ recommends, look for the blazes and stay as close to them as possible.
