SADNESS! A Silent Voice Movie Reaction! 

The part that made me cry the most was when they met back up at the bridge after his accident. They both made a huge impact on each other’s life and I think that’s what made me cry because regardless of them having a bad up bringing they still found their way back to each other and watching the movie it just made me emotional to see that two people so different are yet so similar in so many ways

Bless your empathetic soul Tay! I'm literally the exact same type of crier during emotional movies. It's a healthy outlet to allow yourself to feel your feelings. Especially, if you are normally guarded. Thank you for being open and allowing us to see your vulnerability. A+ movie pick to you both!

Girl, they way you feel for other so deeply. Just means your a beautiful person inside. Empathy is gift no shame in it.

I feel like this film portrays dealing with social trauma so well (with Shouya). He was traumatized so much by his social experiences in youth that he couldn't even look anyone in the eye anymore. And that's a real thing. A lot of people with extreme social anxiety and trauma find ways to mute or block out others around them as a way to cope and prevent that trauma from happening again. As someone who has experienced quite a bit of social anxiety and trauma myself, I can tell you that I bawled my eyes out at the final scene of Shouya letting his guard down and finally letting everyone in. That's a real thing. Dropping your guard when you've been so traumatized like that is a terrifying thing. It can be freeing but also one of the most vulnerable feelings of your life. I had a similar experience to Shouya at the end of the film and I actually have a tattoo of the date and time it happened on my body so that I will never forget it. I bawled so hard in the middle of the street that the teacher I was with at the time had to hold my hand back to the hotel. It was extremely overwhelming and also one of the most joyous moments of my life.

this movie was so powerful it definitely made me cry alot, as a kid i delt with the feeling of isolation and felt different from everyone that people hated me cause i couldnt fit in or be normal. And i struggled with suicidal thoughts and isolated myself from others. This just reminds me no matter who you are theres always something to love in life a reason to live. This movie and also a anime called Welcome to the NHK i can really relate to.

Wellz encouraging Taylor to have her own stream is really cool. Many guys are too insecure for that. And he's right, she definitely has the personality for it, which is rare even among youtubers.

A Silent Voice is what the directors chose as an English title, 聲の形Koe no Katachi. The Shape of Voice is the literal Japanese translation. Also, makes more sense in the original Japanese, but suki- I like/love you vs. tsuki- moon. So you could imagine why Ishida got confused.

This movie brings me to tears every rewatch because of how down to earth, beautiful, scary, and real it is. So many of the things the characters face with hit home and it's just the feeling of someone one there, even if it's just a movie, could ever understand.

This movie had the ending I needed... Man, I am so grateful to have this story in my life AND this reaction.

This film is the most I have ever related to a Character like Shoya, I I'm not deeply depressed like Shoya was, but I get the feeling that you can't look people in the eyes because of anxiety when watching this show for the first time I felt like this movie was made for me, that's how powerful this film to me was, they perfectly conveyed the heavy topic about Anxiety, Depression and Self Hatred

if only the teacher would've done something then none of this would've happened, all he did was ignore the problem and did the bare minimum. In the manga, he even mocked Shoko too and he put all the blame on Shoya

In the manga, it actually showed how Ishida and Naoka were close friends along with Kazuki, Naoka had deep feelings for him and she thought Nishimiya was trying to draw Ishida's attention because she loves him too, she had a reason to bully so she isn't that hateable, it is kinda true that they didn't hang out that much when Nishimiya moved to their school, she kind of protected Ishida by saying it isn't his fault. Miki on the other hand, she tried to be the coolest kid in class, lied about her not bullying, lied about who did the project and blamed Ishida later on.

Dam I felt the ending . Watching this the first time throughout this reaction & I understood tays crying at the end . Aww

In Yuzuru's dream, the night the grandma passed away, she saw a memory of when Shoko came back from school dripping wet during the bullying and signed that she wanted to die. It flashes to a vision of Shoko at that age in a pool of blood, basically the fear that she had that she would go through with it. She wakes out of the nightmare with a panic but is calmed when she sees her grandma lying next to her and realizes it was just a nightmare. I don't know that it's ever stated anywhere officially, but I imagine the grandma had already passed away at the point she woke up.

She lost hearing in one of her ears over time. She had 2 hearing aids as a kid, then you see the doctor office scene, one hearing aid on bed and that being backed by Naoka Ueno asking why she only has one at 18:47 - It's sneaky, but the blonde chick (Kawai) baited Shouko into singing in that school scene. You can see her looking over to Kawai for a queue to start and she straight up fakes singing to get her to come in early. Then she puts on a show acting nice trying to be like, it's okay.

Now this was a good reaction 💯💯💯 more sad stories definitely. I like the review at the end where u gave different perspectives on the topic 🔥. Definitely have to check out “Spirited Away” or “Princess Monoke”

If you guys want to watch more anime movies, "Josee, the Tiger and the Fish" is something between "A Silent Voice" and "Your Name". Really sweet with drama and sadness.

Please watch Love is War next. Literally the perfect show for couples to react to. Its kinda like Death Note where u have 2 geniuses battling each other except its a romcom. I love Silent Voice but we need a break from the sad shit and Love is War is the funniest anime ever.

5:20 its because she always wanted to be treated like a normal kid and while everyone else used notebook to communicate with her and eventually got fed up, Shouya was the only one behaving with her like a normal kid who can talk and listen. And at start, those activities he did were not much harmful and instead was kinda prank. I would say that even Shoko was kinda happy that atleast there is someone who pranks with her and makes the class laugh because of her. In manga, Shouya's personality is quite different. His biggest fear is loneliness. He doesn't wants to be alone and outcaste by his friends and that's why he always makes friends with every new student in the class. He just wanted to talk with her but surr enough doesn't knows the medium and not being able to understand her signs or words made him irritated and eventually doing activities that actually harmed my poor princess. Movie makes you hate Shouya so bad but Manga kinda makes you feel pity of him and instead more angry towards the ******* teacher and school authority to not helping the children to deal with such special child. Hence that's why Shoko always wanted to be Shouya's frnd especially after Sahara changed her school. She is just too pure for this world ❤

Don't know if y'all will see this after so long, but there's an anime series called *A Sign of Affection* that features a deaf MC. It's not nearly as heavy as *A Silent Voice* is since it's more of a slice-of-life romance, and it has no actual connection to the movie beyond both the movie and series featuring a deaf MC. I highly recommend watching the Sub over the Dub for the series though as you can miss some significant context as the Dub doesn't offer subtitles for text messages and stuff like that(like it ought to for foreign audiences so there's a convenient translation). A different recommendation is the *Flying Witch* anime series, which is an adorable slice-of-life series about a witch in training. Also very much recommend the anime movie *Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki*, and any Studio Ghibli movies though probably more for personal watching or non-RU-vid reaction(tends to get copyright flagged a lot) as they tend to be pretty great albeit strange with at times(but that's part of Ghibli's charm).

I love this movie, I assume it hits me a little harder than most because I have hearing aids too. I maintain the dub is neccesary because of Shokos voice. Also the voice actress for her is deaf in real life too.

Teacher was the real villain of the entire story. Everyone else was just a child at the wrong place wrong time. The manga did a much better job of showing that.

also, during the movie we cant see Ishida's sister's face. it is believed that his sister is the Sing language teacher. ishida also learned sing language somehow.

Everyone usually goes to "Your Name" and honsetly....its just fine to me. But this movie is so much more "real" whereas Your Name is fantastical. The way I can describe this movie is in ONE word....Redemption. Such a powerful story.

I watched this movie like 3 times now but never thought about what you said that the main character likes the dark-haired girl and that's why he's being a bully. Would make more sense than being a bully just because.

1 of my favorite movies. What makes it even sadder is the Kyoto Animation Studios arson. Many people died, 33 i think it was, some who worked on this film. Their voice was silenced, but echoes through their work. 💔 The arsonist is such a cruel piece of shhh... a few true crime stories out there about it. Last I heard Kyoto Animation Studios was thinking of making a park in the place of the burned down building in memory of those lost.... I'd like that.... 🥺

We all came from being kids guys. How we think now as adults is not yet present when we were just growing up. We make mistakes as kids, but we all don't know that what we did were wrong. Even with a proper parent, it is not learned right away what is right and wrong. That is why there are such words as "childish" and "matured". Try watching the movie again, by yourselves if possible. Then reflect on how this movie is closely related to how humans really are.

its better with subs. because you cant get the feeling you get from subs from this. the voices and sounds. its more sad with the real voices

clannad and violet evergarden are very good anime to cry to

Just so you can get a better graps of Ueno character, cause the movie clearly didnt have time to expand on her, she has some reasoning behind her actions. Ofc it goes without saying that physical and psychological abuse cant be excused. That being said, her main issue, apart from casula jealousy is that she has a really hard life for her. She leaves alone with her 3 (i think) little brothers and her unemployed grandpa. she has to go to school, do homework and also work on the side to provide for her family ("cat job" for example) while also doing the casual home chores. At the beginning when Ueno does reading in class and the teacher insults her and ther Nishimiya is reading and the teacher says nothing she feels bad cause Shoko has a free pass "just" because she is deaf. On the other hand , Ueno lives under very hard situations as well, but noone seems to understand that, and cuts her some slack. That's why she has this constant jealousy towards Shoko. Also, in many cases she gets irritaded cause Shoko gets special treatment and thinks that everything is about her, instead of trying to understand how others feels as well. In general , she is a quite good-written character that a lot of people might relate to, but sadly the movie didnt have the time to expand and just left hints. Another detail that most people wont get in the 1st watch of this movie is that if you guys remember, when Shoko returns from the ear doctor, she is testing one of her ears to see if she can feel anything and she doesnt, meaning that she got complete deaf form that ear cause she used to wear earing aids on both of her ears when she was younger. Well, that ear is the one Ishida damaged when he pulled her hearing aids off back in school and When he catched Shoko in the balcony scene, he remembered that he never apologised for that. I think that was a great subtle way to remind us that we cannot always change the shit we do. we just have to do our best to change and redeem ourselves. Anyway, i could speak hours about that movie. Your Name A Silent Voice ...complete the set with Maquia A Promised Flower Blooms

I think this film deals a lot with communication and understanding that communication. The teacher in their 6th grade class was obviously shit. He expected a little girl with a disability to maintain the same level of performance and socialization as the rest of the class, without ever giving the children any true ways to communicate with her or understand her. They introduced the option of sign language (way too late, IMO) and only for 3 minutes a day to the children who wanted to participate. By that point, most of the students already resented her for something none of them had any control over. The students ended up having to step up and provide Shoko with the special care that she needed (there was no student aid present, translator or anything), so it's not surprising to me that the kids would grow to resent her. They don't truly understand what having a disability means and how hard it can make it to communicate your thoughts and feelings to others. To them, it just seemed like Shoko was a useless person without the ability to care for herself. They don't understand how her disability inhibits her from communicating on the same level that they do. Shouya also has a lot of trouble communicating. Most of what makes him mad about Shoko as a little kid is the fact he literally cannot understand her at all. The entire class views her as a nuisance, because she is wholly reliant on them to get by and they don't understand why. No one ever taught them. Ueno is a good example of this. She started out by trying to communicate with Shoko and offering to transcribe notes from class in her notebook. She was arguably one of the few in the class that had an invested interest in seeing Shoko succeed. But Ueno herself wasn't doing very good in classes due to her home life (having to care for a number of siblings) that she soon began to see Shoko as a complete nuisance and didn't want to waste the time trying to help her anymore. It doesn't seem to make sense during the ferris wheel scene, but what Ueno is saying makes sense to her. To Ueno, Shoko expected everyone to understand her problems and cater to her while she never took the time to understand anyone else's problems. That's not entirely Shoko's fault. You're entire life can begin to revolve around your disability, and it's easy to understand why Shoko never really took the time to know the classmates who were responsible for her well-being. Ultimately, throughout this entire story, it's kind of the adults who failed at teaching their children how to properly communicate with one another. You can't expect a little kid to have the knowledge that an adult has and understand things they've never had prior experience with.
