THANK YOU FOR 7000 SUBS! Onto the video, that's right baby! One of the MAIN gripes I had about CB in Rise has been addressed, so now I've finally got my Malzeno clear I feel qualified to talk about the Sunbreak changes!
CB has a LOT of potential, but there's also a few things we have to wait and see in the main game before we pass a final judgement..

I was really struggling with Demo Malzeno UNTIL I tried it with CB. A mixture of all the improvements you listed, and Malzeno being "easy" to punish with a CPP into a SAED... it just flowed so well. I haven't had this much fun with CB in years!

THANK YOU FOR 7000 SUBS! Take a shot every time I say "truth be told". Anyways, onto the video. One of the MAIN gripes I had about CB in Rise has been addressed, so now I've finally got my Malzeno clear I feel qualified to talk about the Sunbreak changes! For clarity, at the start I don't ONLY mean CB was held back for speedruns. If you know the weapon well enough you know it was pretty awkward for casual play, and deserved a much higher standard. The file vertical hitbox being borderline nonexistent in base Rise was what really held this weapon back for me. Frankly Capcom could have made a video featuring the reworked vertical hitbox on impact files instead of the new silkbind move since I'm 100% convinced this would have hyped CB players way more. I'm also glad to see that Gunlance is getting some love too. Hopefully the weapons feel this good to use in the actual release.

The hate for CB felt real in base Rise, for sure. I'll never understand why, either...Same for SW of all things! My go-to blademaster weapons T.T I know people just moved to poison and exhaust because of the amped speed, but I liked Power Phial for the white-hot heated sword, and I never use it now because it really IS that slow. You never get to use the amped state in a real fight T.T Between that and CB's nerfs, I had way less fun with my chosen Blademaster weapons this time out (still stuck with them, it was just...I'd often question why I wasn't using my Bow. Especially with 3.0 and Raw Bow being back as a usable generalist!) At worst, I won't be using the Ready Stance much if it's unaffected by Guard (I always, literally always, run Guard 3 if it is at all an option because I'm too bad at CB to go full damage), and at best....Well...That probably doesn't change much because Pizza Cutter is fun but Smol Hunter Girl, Big Axe Smack is back!

Isn’t 3 guard especially good in ride though since it would turn what would otherwise be knockbacks into an aed/saed chance? (I’m pretty new to MH so forgive me if I have this wrong).

I've heard rumours about 2 points of guard being a three slot instead of four slot deco. Might help with the skill tax if true, kinda necessary if they want spinning axe ready stance to be viable. Honestly though I just really want them to fix the input dropping, no other RE Engine game has this issue and it's so bad with this weapon specifically!

In the last day alone, I have had at least 20 separate instances of input dropping while doing high rank hunts since I'm still doing stuff like trying to kill Valstrax to catch up and feel like I've done most things given I started Rise really late

I haven't noticed any input drops (on the PC version), but I did see there's a mod now, specifically for charge blade, that fixes what is presumed to be an input bug. The description says, "This should fix that when pressing X+A after shield thrust, Charged Double Slash is wrongly performed instead of AED / SAED."

There is another switch skill for spinning axe playstyle that was shown briefly in the recent trailer, that I think will make spinning axe more viable

Lance vs Malzeno was a wonderful matchup. Seems like instablock has more active frames for triggering the perfect block, anchor rage's buff lasts so much longer. Overall excited for lance, but glad to see CB doing well, might have to pick it up especially if we get a Magnamalo variant

I know what I'm about to say is going to sound insane, But I actually am finding a lot of use with Readying stance... With Condensed element slash. Even though in this state it is just a glorified guard point, it just flows a little better imo. I wanted to main CB in base rise, but due to its issues, I just couldn't ever stick to it for a long time. With the new changes Sunbreak seems to offer, I think i'll finally be able to dedicate myself to one of my favorite weapons. Reason for Edit: I just wanted to fix a bunch of typos.

Since I ended up neglecting CB and GS in vanilla RIse I'm planning on using them exclusively through G/Master Rank Story in Sunbreak, and I'm glad to hear they made SAED better since its definitely the most bombastic playstyle for that weapon!

after looking back at old games i didnt get a chance to play, the fact they maxtrix dodge the shield buzzsaw and the fuckin energyblade move for a guardpoint is insane to me, now i know there are more silk bind moves that they DIDNT show us, but it just baffles me, like bro the cool shit they went "nah give em another guard"

GU's Ripper Shield is THE precursor for IB's chainsaw shield that we ended up getting a remix of for Rise. Praying for an Energy Blade mod, myself. Just add Astalos' head beam attack effect to AED3 or whatever, I don't care just GIVE IT!

Charge Blade, Lance, and Gunlance are my favorite weapons and they're all looking better from the demo. Hopefully the full game feels just as good. I really hope the next game changes guard to a 3 point skill instead of 5 point though, it's too expensive for all of these weapons to actually consider taking full guard, and levels 2 and 4 don't really do anything anyway.

They did also apparently remove the animation penalty from charging Sword Boost and Spinning Slash so using boosted weapons for damage might be a lot more viable.

As a CB main myself, & a new hunter in Rise, I’ve had a blast with it in the Demo. It was really disappointing when I went for an SAED & it sailed straight under the monster. At the time of typing this I’ve killed Malzeno twice in multiplayer & plan on a third solo before the game is out.

From trying it out with CE in the demo the new aerial silkbind is a ton of fun on top of being quite useful, so charge blade should be even better in the full release. Don't know why they decided to showcase ready stance instead of that in the trailer. It's so stupid that ready stance requires you to slot guard to even use it for its intended purpose.

I'm a Ready Stance stan, I've already made 2 videos on it, trying to clear things up. Hopefully Sunbreak really makes it shine alongside Rapid Morph

I just watched your most recent video on ready stance and it’s really an interesting point to be made. At first it seems ready stance is a tool that only really benefits spinning slash but because it gives even more knockback reduction than a regular guard point it’s actually really good for counter saed. Because it’s a guard point it allows you to utilize offensive guard and the counter morph buff while either being able to run less guard on your build or being able to guard point attacks you’d typically use counter peak performance on because of the reduced knockback. So if you’ve already got charged phials then ready stance is basically a better option than counter peak for strong knockback attacks because you can get the offensive guard and counter morph buffs from it.

@@buttersidedown5905 Absolutely right for the most part! The thing is, I don't think Counter Morph Slash's GP bonus applies since so far it only applies to the two moves that it changes and no other GP while it's equipped.

The phial height was what killed CB for me in Rise, so hearing that SAED might actually be usable in Sunbreak makes me very happy. I despise spinning axe so much that on monsters that SAED is a bad matchup for I'd rather just use charged sword mode and AED everything to death, even if that does take around 53 years to complete any hunt. SAED's being fixed is cool and all, but I just want Iceborne style Savage Axe back and my life will be complete. That was the most fun CB has ever been for me, and I don't think anything will top it unless we get something crazy like Energy Blade in the new engine.

contrary to you, i think css is better than savage axe hated that savage axe made you swing back instead of going forward, and css forcing you out of pizza when you sheathe wasn't too big of an issue for me as maintaining it was easier with upswing charging phials

Out of curiosity, do you dislike CSS because it goes away on sheathe? I get this feeling too, it is clunky. I see that you like savage axe so that tells me you don’t dislike the powered up axe mode across all games

@@greymon1665 Personally I don't like CSS for a couple reason. One is as you already stated, it gets knocked out of whenever you sheath, which with a weapon like the ax, is done quite often for a myriad of reasons. The second is that I have to choose whether I want my elemental sword vs it in the first place. Cutting my options in half in that sense no matter what. Savage ax didn't have this problem. It was just an addition, nothing taken away from.

@@theworstcatholic7247 In Sunbreak we'll be able to take both CES and CSS in the same hunt - one on each scroll. I'm not the biggest fan of CSS in Rise for much the same reasons as you, but this alone makes it more appealing to me. Also from my testing in the demo, if you scroll swap to CES while CSS was active, it'll put you directly in charged sword state - which is quite nice.

@@greymon1665 That's exactly it. I don't care about phial regeneration because it was extremely easy to manage swapping back to sword mode for a quick double charged attack and then hopping straight back into axe mode without having to spin up again. Maybe they changed it to disappear because they thought we hated it that our phials got drained if the monster ran away, but that's why you'd just charge your shield before chasing to stop the deterioration, and it was an absolute non-issue to get back into it. Another reason I'm a huge fan of Savage Axe over CSS is because of the L2 SAED cancel. It was a way to stop an SAED with a shorter animation than an AED, and not blowing all your phials by charging your shield

Well, there is a lot of "criticism" about Rise that goes beyond, "I don't enjoy Rise/ I don't enjoy X about Rise". That said, criticism from Cera and Phem has typically had to do with objective flaws in specific aspects of Rise (weapon balance, broken hitboxes), and less about the subjective qualities of the game (game speed, art direction).

Yeaaaaah ready stance might need some work. I love the idea of playing pizza cutter style, but the maintenance involved just for all the clunk is a little much.

The problem is Ready Stance is a bandaid on the cancer of pizza cutter's design. The really frustrating thing is they got it right LAST TIME. Savage Axe's design where it passively drain phials but persists passively was genius, so they decide to just upend it and do the opposite to make the weapon super clunky and to incentivize you to never morph on the morph weapon.

I still don't understand how guard can be a 2 slot skill in Rise. Yes the master rank armors will have better slots which will lessen the issue Sunbreak but I still hope this will be changed. Sidenote - I was considering playing lance for a bit so I took a look at what skills I wanted to have in order to go full turtle and every single guard related skill is a 2 slot. I understand why they shifted the attack skills to 2 slots but defensive ones should still be 1 slots

i feel like cb animations cant keep with how fast some monster are in rise sometimes...they should shorten saed wind up and the sword charging slam by a bit imo...but its too late for that i guess

Tbh, i hate the rise pizza cutter more than axe hopper. Not being able to retain it when you morph back is such a dumb decision that they just refuse to revert. you have charged sword in axe mode but not vice versa. And their solution.. with their infinite wisdom they grace us with shitty ready stance. we had a looping combo in iceborne with slinger burst and it wasn't good there either. i hope the other silkbind we didn't get in the demo is actually useful.

Did beat Malzeno with a Hunting Horn. Really love the addition to it. Makes bonks bonk even harder and cool songs to boot. As for CB. Happy that it got more consistent, but I can already foresee people complaining about it not being consistent enough due to other monsters having different hitboxes that just make the phials miss. It's a sad reality where no-matter how much you fix things there's always something wrong. But yea happy that now it seems CB has 2 more distinct playstyles. SAED/Axehop & Pizza. Maybe the firing pin stuff works better for pizza to compliment that playstyle.

@@sangheilicommander1056 Capcom broke CB in Rise to fix it in Sunbreak and people really expect us to praise them for it. Other weapons get game-changing moves, new playstyles, and what do the CB mains get? A patch to make it not feel like driving a manual in traffic

I played charge blade in world, I loved to main this weapon. But then this double gameplay appeared. SAED or Spinning axe. Since you had to chose one or the other, I felt heavily reduced in the gameplay in itself comparing to other weapons gaining some gameplay. There are litteraly buttons combinations you never use for one gameplay or the other. Having to chose between spinning axe or the charged sword also killed it for me. I don't like the charge blade anymore since it's 2 different weapons styles in one but you end up playing with just one of the possibilities.

I picked up CB in the of playing through Iceborn and beat shara ishvalda without knowing how to charge my shield and do the SAED. I went back to gunlance and swaxe for the dlc monsters and picked it back up for rise where I actually learned how to use the thing and I had a lot of fun, but I never felt like I was really doing damage like I should of been. I didn't know that the SAED was bugged and just figured I was doing it wrong but still was enjoying the game play loop. It feel so much better in the demo and I cant wait for Sunbreak.

I'm glad they fixed those phial hitboxes, I'm not a chargeblade player but I thought it was kinda ridiculous. Hammer has actually been really fun for me in the demo, specifically courage mode. I didn't play hammer in base rise but it's actually really fun in the demo and I'm looking forward to playing it in sunbreak

Man I can’t wait for sun break on ps4. I’m curious though, since PlayStation got ride way later, were we playing with these chargeblade issues too? Or were they fixed for our release? I did noticed my phials often sliding under taller monsters so I was just curious if it was something we had in our version still. One more week until sunbreak, I’m so excited!!!

SAED was just about the only thing that felt bad about Charge Blade, and now that it's fixed the weapon will be even more fun than in the base game! Also, being able to use the axe hopper without having to give up peak performance is just a cherry on top, that skill was always really fun to use but way too situational to give up a move that was useful in every single fight. And since skill tax is not a concept unless you're a speedrunner, I am very happy with all the changes.

This is what I wanted to ask! I run Guard 3 even on my CSS builds because I have the empty slots with a lucky wex 2 with a 2-slot charm...It's less optimal for damage, but I'm not a speedrunner and I'm really just not very good with CB and the Guard levels help! Anyway, if Ready Stance uses your Guard levels for knockback reduction, then its use cases go up for CSS because it works like a normal guard point (multiple hits and all that) while CPP decidedly does not...And the animation is faster. Here's hoping...Like many others, I'm not very enchanted with the new skill we got, I'm not spectacularly optimistic for the one(s?) we have yet to work with...Got the same feeling with Bow, my other main, too. Butcher's Bind is...ok...But not good. It's better to just use Herculean and keep the assault up than waste the time necessary to land Butcher's and then triple-charge and shoot the same spot on a moving monster. Without Dodgebolt because that always seemed to cancel out the Bind.

@@TransientWitch just because cb's new switch skills aren't flashy doesn't mean they're bad. We've already found an incredibly good use for ready stance, and firing pin is actually a godly skill to have for a sns focused style when using cb

@@fefnir6950 Yeah, that's true...I'm not, like, down on them, I just don't see myself using Ready Stance much if it doesn't benefit from Guard...I just meant that I wasn't optimistic that the others would give a new gameplay style. That's fine and all, Firing Pin will slot in well with the counter-focused style since you use CES more and focus Sword for most of your time for the easy GPs and such! But the baseline changes feel really good. Am I insane, or is it also way easier to aim/steer SAED and AED than it was in base Rise? Because it feels so to me, but that could just be a confirmation bias for me

Demo CB ~definitely~ felt better than base Rise wrt combos and dropped input and I'm excited... If still a bit wary. it was my main in my first game (Generations) but I was actually a bit disappointed with it in World since I'm not a huge fan of the more SAED-spammy playstyle. It'll be fun to come back to it with the smoother controls in Sunbreak and see if the changes give me back that "charge up and dps" playstyle with AED snipes I miss from GU/Iceborne.

I really hope there's a way a Guard Up skill build is viable, given how G-rank has nearly always discouraged blocking over dodging and Rise made blocking even more unappealing as an investment with the glut of counter abilities. Still good news that SAED is decent again.

Amen, a Guard 5 Guard UP Lance build was always only fun in paper, since A) since Behemoth theres not been 1 monster that needs a dedicated tank B) you had to invest so many skillpoints in something that didnt even remotely give you damage. So why bother with defensive skills at all

I'm ride or die on my GL, especially since Rise's is the most fun it's ever been, but I'm glad the CB bros are getting their toys fixed. My hunting party consists of me, a CB, HH and GS mains and we're all in love with our weapons in RIse, but CB friend always seemed to be sad about his' being inconsistent. Here's hoping the changes make him happier before he decides to be a LS main :P (just kidding, I love you too, weeb friends, I slot Flinch Free anyways

@@hakageryu307 you clicked on a speedrunners channel, to complain about a speedrun comment? The fragility of your ego is incredible. I play cb because I love it. And because I love it, I want to see it perform well in all aspects of the game, including speedruns. I've mained it since it's release in mh4. Please take your projections elsewhere, it's falling on deaf ears here

I'm glad CB is getting some love. I've been personally lounging in the soft palanquin that is GL being really strong for once (now that I've written this down it sound *really* weird but it's here to stay), though the fact that they only gave us access to Normal means that most of the things I wanna know aren't available to be tested unless you fiddle around with modding. But Bullet Barrage feels really good and the new BD is an exciting prospect assuming that charged shots become... actually worth using. Alongside the fact that we can fly even more with it. I'm still mourning Hail Cutter though. Or I guess mourning isn't the right word, I'm in a state of befuddlement regarding its fate.

I'm not able to beat malzeno yet, but I'm trying with charge blade and so far its the most OKs giver and destructive piece of art in all the game xd incredible the power that its show

I so wanted to love Rise CB but it just never felt “right”. Beat Malzeno with it and it feels great. Phials hit. All good! Is it just me or does it feel like there is more of a window to aim your SAED? In Rise it felt like my phials would often miss by a wide margin where as in the demo it felt like I had more of any opportunity to adjust during the animation. Is that just in my head?

Finally beat Malzeno last night. CB is better than in Rise, and I love that we get better directional input on SAEDs as that was driving me insane. Also couldn't agree more that the Ready-Stance is just a stronger GP, but it's inferior to CPP especially against Malzeno when you go from GP into SAED. CPP to SAED or AED is still faster because there's no knockback animation. I really wish they'd let us use Ready-Stance to AED cancel similar to how Morphing into Savage Axe mode in World counted as a guard point for a split second. During the Malzeno fight I tried to weave in Ready-Stance with Spinning Axe but the dps wasn't justifiable unless the monster was downed and I already had the axe charged. Skill Swap Evade was only beneficial if my weapon was sheathed and I could see the attack coming a mile away. I'm also kind of underwhelmed that we only get to choose between ready-stance or axe hopper. for the blue loadout. Axe Hopper is just a slower version of MH Generation Ultimate's Aerial Style SAED.

i used to be a charge blade main in iceborne, but when the rise demo came out it ruined the weapon for me. i main greatsword now but after this vid i think ill try charge blade again.

Can you discharge phials with axe hopper in base Rise? I played some CB in rise but the SAED was so underwhelming I stopped, but if I could discharge with axe hopper I might give it another go.

How about using the New skill for being able to guard with savage axe? Like one scroll for powerfull counters with SAED, and blade attack, and the other for slicing with savage when there is an opportunity

Or even keeping hopper on second scroll, for a stronger saed for more stun/fall buildup as soon as the monster stand up (like in the aed savage stun machine style in iceborne)

CB was basically my main through the base World story (I haven’ done Iceborne stuff yet), and i felt pretty competent with the weapon. I have no idea why, but I feel way worse with it in Rise. Maybe I’m just out of practice or something, but idk.

I don't know what it is. But ever since 4U Charge Blade just stopped making sense to me. Like the controls of it, and always messing up the buttons to do certain things. I also enjoyed the face slap charge over the saed spamming as well. But that's just my take on it. I still love the idea of CB I just suck with it.

Skill Swap is going to completely change the game. I completely changed my LS play style and I never use Helm Splitter anymore. It’s so fun. I hope CB also has that level of versatility.

My problem with CB in the Sunbreak demo is that it still feels too axe-heavy (fitting, since the axe is ineed quite heavy). Sword mode still feels really meh to use compared to World, where it felt beefy and Sword Boost actually did good damage instead of "Oh look, an extra 8 damage against a monster with 20k health."

My biggest issue with CB in rise (as compared to World) was aiming of (S)AEDs. When you turn the analog stick it changes the direction by almost 90 degrees. Its almost impossible to make smaller adjustments so that the axe hits connect. Most of the time the turn is so drastic that not only do the axe hits miss, but the phials all miss as well. Makes aiming pointless imo. Hopefully with the buffed phial hitboxes atleast some phials will hit when I accidentally use the analog stick during SAED due to muscle memory

The way to aim now is to point the stick towards where you want it to go, don’t go hard left or hard right. Try to aim at 11 or 1 o clock if you want to make a minor adjustment, took me some getting used to but it works!

Nah i think ready stance is perfect and fixes alot for the savage axe playstyle. Guard 3 will probably be enough since the skill has innate guard boost and savage axe is already way, way easier to build then SAED. All you need is crit and attack + guard 3. That´s so cheap compared to SAED needing all CB comfort skills + raw attack and crit doesnt hurt either. Also i have seen firing-pin videos and it absolutely slaps with SAED playstyle, it´s legit just free dmg and K.O.

i actually picked CB up for the first time since i think 4ult and base gen, mostly because i had considered it a secondary weapon in my kit, far FAR under IG which was and still is my main. im literally just forcing myself to learn how tf to use other weapons so i cna go back to MHW and actually do the iceborne expansion completely because i got cockblocked from it due to the clutch claw not playing nice with controller IG

goodbye short stack phials. Hello rewarding good positioning/aim with damage. Axe hopper for super spam and the ready stance for css seems to be the way, while cpp will be staple regardless of playstyle.

Using CB in base Rise was painful to watch numerous good plays get rewarded with what amounted to being given the finger out of nowhere. The fixes might get me to consider coming back after I finish progging with Switch Axe or dabble in it some more again

At least in the demo it feels like they completely crippled switch axe by screwing over evades even further. Rise already has a fraction of the s that other MH games did, now it seems like they made the base evade speed and distance akin to a DS fatroll.

I’ve been trying to solo demo malzeno with insect glaive and I usually play with a mix of aerial and grounded moves. This playstyle is an awful matchup against malzeno and the powder kinsect is also bad because all his massive aoes blow up your powder before you can build up enough to detonate. It’s a painful fight that I just can’t beat the timer on even when I feel like I’m playing well and able to stay on top of him most of the time. Losing to the timer fucking sucks and is incredibly demotivating, even IB fatalis felt easier on that front for glaive. I might try gunlance but otherwise I’m giving up because I don’t like dps races in monhun as they feel like an exercise in frustration more than anything else (I know this isn’t related to much of the video at all, I’m really happy with charge blade being largely fixed, I just hope it persists into the full game and that IG doesn’t get murdered by multiplayer cheese abusing something that’s balanced when solo)

Having gone off of Rise after the content dried up (Being mostly stickers, titles and poses for any aspirational content), I've dropped off hella hard;and that honestly sucks. I've been a part of the MonHun community since 3U;getting at least 1000 hours playtime per installation, and with my Rise playtime coming in at just over 250 hours, I've gotten hella rusty in remembering button layouts/weapon flowcharts and the like. Now with less than a week until Sunbreak, I feel like I've fallen behind everyone. Any tips for getting not only myself, but anyone else in my position, up to speed?

Practice practice practice. Take it slow, with a good tutorial monster like Rathian, learn where to position, what to guard point, and muscle memory will fall into place!

Even with the fixes, Charge blade will only just feel a bit better to use, it won't get that good given nearly every other weapons are getting similar improvements while getting new advantages that put them on top. Every one has been going crazy about complaining for Lance not being the "ultimate counter weapon", but truth be told, CB's identity as a parry-riposte weapon has been heavily fucked at this point too, especially given how the new parries for Greatsword and Switch Axe are overpowered both in concept and practice. At this point, switch axe is almost like a better, more consistent charge blade. Input management still being fucked up, Guard Point/CPP trigger hitboxes being so small, confirmation that Capacity Boost is NOT returning, lackluster silkbinds/alternate moves, "Savage axe" still feeling weirdly fucked, even more fast/multihitting monsters rendering counter->SAED obsolete/less reliable, so on and on. CB will undeniably be better in Sunbreak than in Rise, but anyone who believes it'll go back to Iceborne's, GU's or 4U's level is on massive amounts of copium. Based on the recent leaks, I will definitely have more fun with firing pin than anything else new CB might get, but in my heart Cb is very far from being "fixed", given how dirty Capcom did it in Rise.

This demo gave me a weapon crisis, i just cant choose what to main for the life of me, my main was GL and while I love BB i feel the entire GL playstyle will become a BB spam, then CB which you explained what happended to it in this vid but I also feel like theres nothing new to do with this weapon, basically just new options to choose from on the fly but nothing new (the aerial silkbind thing that is missing in the demo looks just like axe hopper, very gimmicky), then GS which dear lord Surge Combo and Hysteria got me acting up, but then theres LS which of course its the most stylish one and as a weeb I cant help but feel excited to embrace my inner Vergil and feel MOTIVATED, DB same as LS but with Levi and SASAGEYO!!! I will stop now but you get my point lol

I tried Malzeno with 50mins and 9 Lifes and still failed xD (due to 9 deaths, cause his dmg is really high) And to see they fixing some vertical hitboxes here gives me hope that they fix general vertical hitboxes at monsters, like on some monsters its okay but on others.. meh.. like you are absolutely not touching anything of the back or head of the monster but still get hit.. was a reason for me to not play IG

This is my favorite weapon and the main reason I stuck with the franchise. I don't really care how "viable" and "proficient" the weapon is, just how fun it is, in Rise it wasn't very fun at all if you have perspective on how it played before, it felt like using a sword with no blade. I hope this makes the weapon feel fun to play again.
