Safe Third Country Agreement: Canada-US refugee entry deal upheld by court

Canada's federal government had a legal win over who's allowed to enter this country.
The nation's top court upheld the Safe Third Country Agreement between Canada and the U.S., ruling the pact that allows this country to send refugees back south of the border is constitutional.
The Supreme Court in its decision noted that the agreement does not violate Section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom - the right to life, liberty and security of a person.
Global's Touria Izri has that story.

good, youre suppose to be fleeing from war to go into a safe space to keep you alive , you're not suppose to shop around or spend thousands of dollars on plane tickets to fly over here to say you have no money.. i dont have 5-6k laying around and i have to pay taxes to people to stay illegally in hotels and stuff i havent been on a vacation in 5+ years cause i have to work basically year round to survive and these people have more money than me and get to stay in hotels at no expense or work to them, how many have offered to volunteer to do some work at least?

So who will provide housing and food for these people who show up and don't hav e the skills need or wanted by Canada/ USA? What about language? This is what happens, They get welfare paid for by Canadian citizens, they are dumped into a school that is in the innercity and already strugaling, those refugee kids now sit their without knowing the language yet teachers are expected to teach them? This is a plan for politicians to pat themselves on the back but not have to deal with the problem

we take in so many immigrants, it's a kick in the balls for all the people who went through the correct processes to come here when some dingus just walks across the border and the government gives em freebees. Let alone the fact that we cannot even take care of our own to begin with. homelessness may be inevitable but this country is a wreck, nobody can afford anything and bringing in more people to make demand higher and supply less just makes everything harder for everyone.

These are the same people that drown off the shores of Greece 2 days ago. They each paid $5,000 to flee to Italy from the Port of Libya after coming from Afganistan, India, Egypt, & Syria and waiting for weeks for their departure. Only 104 immigrants survived and 7 of the Egyptians were arrested for human smuggling. These people were not destitute, they were just economic immigrants wanting to go to Europe to make money. Only the Syrian refugees had a legit reason for asylum! Canada only NEEDS educated & skilled workers that speak and read English or French. Why keep taking up precious housing with people who are only using us for what THEY can get from our generosity! Few of them are loyal & grateful to Canada 🇨🇦!

💯 %! I say for people for it and politicians for it. They can pay for everything for these refugees and more!!! See how quick would change 😂😂😂😂 That means healthcare and education of the refugee and their 2 to 4 kids plus for the rest of their lives!! Should be no freebies, no subsidies, no child tax, GST, paid medical, paid education, housing or welfare!!! We have enough suffering and/or trying. We need to sweep out own back step first!!!!

Canada makes me laugh how they shake their hand at other countries for not taking more illegal immigrants. They are well guarded and have the safety of American boarders and oceans. Nobody is coming from the north. If canada cannot cope, how can poor countries in Europe who have 30,000 to 100000 migrants a year?

We more importantly need the infrastructure to sustain more people. The current infrastructure cannot provide services to the number of people currently here. The more we take in, the more impoverished our current population becomes. So we have priorities before we can even consider taking in more

We do need immigrants, legal immigrants. Our population did grow by 1 million people last year, the most in one year ever. Most of that was legal immigrants.
@smashypeople
@smashypeople Год назад
do we though? nobody can afford a damn thing. why add more people to the pot? it's a tough equation, I've been told we need them for our work force and "aging population". but of those here already many are struggling and have been for some time. wouldn't a quicker inrush of people just make things tougher for everyone already here?
@smashypeople
@smashypeople Год назад
And when you have so many people come in, don't we start to lose cohesion as a nation when people aren't uplifting our culture, heritage, and history? When people instead of uniting under a national identity and integrating themselves to be apart of that, separate self interest pocket communities disinterested in our norms and customs. Are we not more divided, do we not begin to lose our way of life?
@strife2746
@strife2746 Год назад
No. With everything becoming more expensive and education/health services being overwhelmed, we seriously need to start taking a page out of Japan's book and focus more on automation.
@Tjd1982
@Tjd1982 Год назад
@@strife2746 Automation only helps in certain fields. The robot we had taking inventory, low stocking and stocking shelves had a breakdown and smashed the glass displays. The breakdown started with a customer taking items off the shelf the robot was trying to inventory. Now we have a human doing it. I remember that first automated order. Two thousand items were suppossed to be on the skid. I kept pulling one item out of a tote. There was a total of 50 toothpaste tubes, each in a different tote. That week we payed out 100 overtime hours to fix the automated order.
@strife2746
@strife2746 Год назад
@@Tjd1982 Great story. Unfortunately for you it's a horrible argument, one that's anecdotal as well. The overwhelming majority of automated industries in Japan work just fine. Mostly because they're much further ahead of the curve than we are. Isolated instances of failure do not invalidate the entire concept or potential of automation. The effectiveness of automation should be evaluated based on broader trends and evidence. Automation has the capacity to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and improve productivity on a large scale. It has been successfully implemented in a multitude of industries, leading to significant economic benefits. Just as with any technology, occasional failures or challenges should be addressed and improved upon, rather than dismissing the entire industry based on isolated incidents.
