Excellent advice! Pogies with liner gloves are a game changer. So is an internal gear hub. As for clothing, I find it best to wear just enough layers to feel cool but not cold at the beginning of the ride, because after 10-15 minutes of pedaling you will get warmer and removing layers in the middle of a ride is inconvenient.

Agreed! It feels counterintuitive to feel a little cool or even cold to start a winter ride but if you start too cozy you often end up drenched in sweat 😓

Excellent video! I ride in the winter and this year will introduce my commuter ebike to the mix. Forgot about the studded tire break in period! Noted.

After watching this the seasonal depression is kicking in lol. It will be another fun winter of navigating the often unmaintained roads of Toronto...

Honestly while editing this I forgot it wasn't winter...I kept feeling relieved when I looked out the window and there wasn't actually any snow on the ground yet 😵‍💫

Ya after the temperature drop last week it felt like snow was coming soon, hopefully we're safe for now. Good video btw, I didn't know about the plow tracker.@@urbane-cyclist

I,ve cycled when it was so cold my derailer froze up, had to leave it in that gear.

When I was first starting winter commuting I did little to no preventative maintenance ( and not enough ongoing maintenance during the winter) and had the same thing happen! It actually wasn't only my shifting that got frozen - my old cantilever brakes froze too!! Since then I usually opt for single speeds with disc brakes to keep things simple and running smoothly.

Handlebar booties. WTF? You've got to be keen to want to ride in winter conditions.
