I put the board in half way and then slide the comic in with the board to avoid the edge of the comic getting caught on the board

Very helpful video. I put the comic and board in at the same time. I have been collecting for a while and never really questioned the best way to keep my comics as good as it was when I got it. Then I got tape stuck to my tales to astonish 90 which is the first abomination. It sucked. So thank you so much!!! PS: you got a good deal on fantastic four 52.

Great informative videos! I’ve started to collect the Walking Dead Deluxe issues and was wondering which bags and backboards you would recommend. The deluxe issues are the same size as the original issues as far as I know. I don’t want them to be loose in the bag so I was thinking current size but I’m not sure. I’m new to this and I don’t have a comic book stores near my place.

If you are not sure, measure the comic and then see if it will fit with the dimensions listed on the bag and board covers..

I think one of the best tips about the tape I have learned recently is to fold the tape at the bottom to create a handle. Not only does it make it easier to open the bag but, it also helps prevent the tape from accidentally sticking to the book because there is more of a non sticky surface. Yea...I will not deny the fact that some of my older books do have some spine ticks them. My Spider-Man 16 has the most because what can I say, Todd McFarlane is one of my idols and I think that was one of his best Spidey books, same with my X-Force 1 but, I do have a sealed copy. However, I checked my Spidey 16 just the other day and minus the spine ticks...the pages are still very much in amazing condition (no yellow and I have had this book since 1994). I actually have a question...how hard is it to avoid spine ticks just because if you read your books it's almost impossible not to get at least 1 or two of them.
@WeLoveComics
@WeLoveComics 4 года назад
If you open your books carefully and read them without pressing them down or folding them too tightly, you should be able to avoid spine ticks... :)
@born68
@born68 5 лет назад
You have your folded tape upside down imo. You should put 1 piece on either side then fold a bit down to grab easily. That way every time you open one the tape stays there ready to tape over it again. As far as bag size, I just buy the largest boards available and use a paper cutter to get my desired width n height and knock out a ton of fresh ready to go as I acquire more books, tape and all. As far as placing my books in bags and boards just use your brains and be care careful. All of these steps take time but saves a lot of time in the long run.Read more

I also advocate putting BOTH the backing-board & Comic Book in the Bag simultaneously, that way it provides the Comic with initial stability as you’re placing it in the Bag. I personally like to use the resealable Bags; that way you never have to worry about tape-snags as you’re going about the removal to reread said Comic! I realize that the preservation of your Comics is a subjective activity, the aforementioned process works well for me personally. :€)

Hi I’m a new subscriber and love your blogs. I slightly disagree that the poly vs mylites don’t matter as much. After 20+ years of storage I have seen what looks like a photographic imprint on the backing board from the acidic effect it has on the back cover. So I am in the process of replacing my boards and covers with mylites so it’s basically one and done for me. No more worrying about replacing the bags or boards for as long as I live. I also personally slab my more valuable books by bagging and boarding them using a thick board plus l take that package and insert it into another larger bag / thick board combination. The end result is a book that has that slab feel where I can take it out and not worry about it being mishandled when I show it off to people. Anyhow different strokes for different folks but I wanted to offer that slight variation of storage methodology to your subscribers and followers who may be interested.

Nothing wrong with that at all, it sounds like you may have over stuffed your comic boxes with too many comics and the impressions were from them being so close together. Almost like smearing silly putty over a news paper... I appreciate you sharing your point of view and I welcome you Fred to my youtube channel :). Hope to hear from you more often, thanks again.

Interesting video on storing & bagging tips. I would not however recommend re-using an old board even if its placed towards the back of the bag. The boards could have absorbed harmful acids from being placed against other books and might release gases. I know sounds a little silly, but if you're adding extra protection to a valuable comic, it's best that you use brand new boards (acid free of course).
@WeLoveComics

I've actually never had that issue, but I do appreciate you sharing your opinion about those kind of things. You should definitely not use backing boards that are warped or yellowing

When removing a comic I just take the tape with the tag and fold it over to the inside part of the flap.

I have used current sized bags and boards for a good number of years, but I always felt like my comics sitting too tight in the bags. I actually had a beloved comic book destroyed while placing it back into a current sized bag. Since that incident, I use Silver Age Bags and Boards for my comic books and for my TBPs. I store my comic books with the covers facing each other, which I learned from one of your past videos, which I really think is a much better way of storing them then them all facing the same direction. Also, have you seen these items comicskin.com. I ran across this company and I'm thinking about getting their slab supplies for some of my favorite comic books. Almost forgot that I have started to use the resealable comic book bags.
@WeLoveComics

There are actually for some reason 2 "Current" size bags. One seems to be about a bit smaller ( 6 7/8" instead of 7""and does not fit modern comics. Found this out the hard way. Not sure what comics actually fit into them but you want to make sure the size is the right one. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic.

i use silver age bags on my comics cause thats the smallest they had. but i double board all my comics which i learned from one of your past vids and the fit nice and snugged. works out great plus i like the fact that my books have no hangover which can be damaging to the books. just my 2 cents. love your vids and i learn alot from them. oh the boards i use are about a 1/4in bigger then the bag so i just cut to a tight fit size. and i always have the fold of the tape on the flap of the bag so when i pull down the comic is free and clear of the tape. works give it a try and let me know what you think of that tape method.

Great video Chris! It's mostly just common sense for some of us AND persona preference.... I always use silver age bags/boards for my modern age comics. I HATE those tight super tight bags for my comic, feel like it does more damage that way.... sorry just me.. and happy with my 9.8 results... lol... As they say "Experience in the hobby is the best teacher".
@WeLoveComics
@WeLoveComics 7 лет назад
Each person has their own way so that is totally understandable. What most don't realize is that there are actually 2 sizes of modern bags and for some reason the smaller one doesn't fit with modern books. Many probably get those as well... I should do a video on that as you are the 2nd person to talk about modern books not fitting.... Thanks for the inspiration of yet another video :).

This is an awesome video. I packed my Comics the same way you do with multiple boards. The problem that I have when I'm using multiple boards is that the edge of the comics gets folded down because of the extra pressure. Do you have any solution for that?

Hi Chris. Really informative video. Definitely going to do the folded tape end technique. In regards to the type of tape to use, would you recommend any ones in particular. I have heard that some tapes have an acidic effect.

The best tape to use is what is called blue painters tape. It is more expensive but it will not get as sticky as regular tape. Glad you appreciated this video and took the time to comment :).
