One of the many assignments I had while working at GM was to produce an educational film for young people about why they should wear seat belts.
The thought was that if we got the kids to wear them -- they would make their parents and older siblings wear them.
Some psychologists from Harvard suggested we make the young boys feel like they were protecting their younger sisters. Apparently, boys respond to that more than being scared or told what to do. They feel invincible and that's one of the reasons it's so easy to get them to go to war.
There are still too many children killed and adults every year in car accidents. Auto safety is important.
