In this video Johnny explains the difference in between safety checks and safety tests and how they relate to overall safety. Going further he demonstrates a scenario in which a gun which fail safety checks can pass some safety tests but ultimately is unsafe.

I am impressed! I was a firearms instructor for a number of years and I have seen some bubba BS on these sites. This guy’s research and instructional expertise is phenomenal. I thought I knew the GLOCK basics but I have come up short. I trust his insight and love the disclaimer this is “educational only”. Man you assume the risks when you touch a weapon. So don’t fiddle “F” with it unless you are VERY sure of your fiddling! Will continue following your work sir.

I tend to run a 5 pound trigger spring and a 5 pound striker spring for what I do, it doesn’t need to feel any lighter than that. Polished to make it a smooth pull without stutters.

Thanks for the information. I wish there were more conscientious armorers out there like you. After thirty-five years in law enforcement, four of which as a range officer, and five on the sector pistol team, I have learned that there is no substitute for safety. Things get ugly in a hurry, especially when you least expect it. Not only are you an extremely amazing armorer, you are experienced in life and the teachings thereof. GREAT VIDEO.

I was a safety officer at an IDPA match. A guy with a 1911 was putting his hand over the ejection port to empty the chamber. I told him not to. On a later stage I was not the safety officer and he did it. The primer hit the ejector, went off, and put a hole in the web of his hand. He was very very lucky it did not hit bone or a major vessel. I cleaned and bandaged it and told him to go get professional help. No idea if he did. I just mention that to confirm your statement that seeing a negligent discharge will change your perspective on safety.

Safety check 2 - drop shelf has a little play, but firm when pushed down onto the shelf, it’s not falling off the shelf at all. and 3 striker safety - plunger safety works and can move striker back and forth by hand, but if I just push plunger and abs shake slide the striker is too stiff to move, so no rattle. It’s dry, clean, no debris etc

I have never held a glock or even shot one but today I purchased a g43x I got home and ordered your combat package with the striker and a connector I have always carried a sig compact 1911 I liked the idea of a striker fired gun but the thought of retraining my self to a long take up squishy break with over travel sounded like too much of a compromise then i saw your video of the pawn shops wife's gun with the pink barrel and was amazed at what i saw a 1911 trigger on a glock so my new journey begins thanks johnny

The Steve Buscemi one is pretty accurate. With that said my polymer 80 trigger can be pushed forward and set without racking the slide or reactivating the striker. That might not make sense but I don’t know how else to explain it.

more videos man... special request.. i have noticed the new Glock 43x (i own) uses same 43 parts but frame tolerances are different. some i picked up felt good some were really hard and ruff. mine picked by dealer from back happened to be ruff.. no worries your videos smoothed it out feels really good. had to work striker plate some flaking (nice video on that one) also sanded a bit inside were transfer bar rubs frame but noticed a slight diagonal pinch on transfer bar that makes the cruciform wanna push firmer on connector. i know your in the wild and have seen more then me. any suggestions or tips for this model, also polished internals firing pin etc.. you don't have to answer just do a video if you see fit. also on that note the g43x finish ! Even though silver throws me off is TOUGH as nails to anyone reading comments. even more so then old Teflon jobs.. I apologize i'm not spending money with you as you deserve but definately getting a trigger soon man, and i mention you to anyone getting into guns. Wish your business well man ok rant over !

I never knew about Johnny til recently and at first I was thinking who is this guy fucking with peoples trigger assemblies.. But then I started watching more and realized he actually is talking all the precautions and steps to get these tweaked just like the major manufacturers are... he's just giving a little more personalization based on the shooter and shooter's preferences. When you start messing with glock internals enough it becomes straight forward enough to verify exactly the things he's showing and it's all pretty intuitive. There are limits to what can be done transforming lower parts to lower tolerances but the outcomes seem very respectable. I get the impression Glock has noticeably higher standards in their polymer frames compared to p80's though. My experience messing with P80's is the slight improvements can come together with other small variables to provide a worse end result sometimes.

One thing I haven't seen explained yet: how does the backplate change the striker/sear geometry? On one of my builds when I use a glock factory back plate or aftermarket I occasionally get doubles where the striker is released when I'm attempting to reset the striker. I put on a see through armorers back plate and engagement looked good and I couldn't get the behavior to reoccur through dry fire or at the range. Is it possibly a different thickness so that the striker is held in a slightly different location?

Now it has an avg pull weight of 3.11 lb but the take up and reset still sucks ( to far) I've seen a few methods to remove take up but I'm reluctant to modify it any more . Due to the scallop cut on the vertical extension of the transfer bar it is not totally disengaging the safety plunger therefore when the firing pin is released it is slightly hitting the plunger.

I had done them when I first assembled the slide; however, the safety plunger did not fully reset after shooting it. Your emphasis on doing the safety tests over and over is so important! Tolerance stacking with various parts created an unsafe firearm. The fundamental problem turned out to be the aftermarket slide itself. Most impressive of all, you responded to my email asking you about my problem. You even watched the video I sent to you explicitly saying “only watch this if you want to.” I am not even a customer yet, but you saw an unsafe situation and helped me immensely.
