Bill shows you how to install a Dual Bowl Master Cylinder Conversion Kit with OE Metal Lines on your 1965-1966 Mustang with Non-Power Drum Brakes.
Purchase Product Here:
www.cjponypart...
In this video we show how to convert your 1965-1966 Mustang with Non-Power Drum Brakes from a single bowl brake master cylinder to a modern, safer dual bowl without any extensive line bending or modifications. This is a very popular upgrade, with tremendous safety benefits.
Installation is a little extensive, you need to either bench bleed the master cylinder before installing, or bleed the brakes after installation. Altogether the Dual Bowl Conversion Kit can be installed in your garage or driveway in about an hour.

This worked perfect on my 65 mustang , hardest part for me was loosening the brake lines from the distribution block other than that the brake lines were correct just had to do a little adjusting to line them up.

I changed out my single bowl master cylinder today for a 67 Mustang dual bowl. I followed the instructions in the CJ Pony RU-vid and it was a perfect guide. Thank you! Now if they can help with my aches and pains that came with the swap out. Advil assistance needed for this 66 year old for sure!

Super helpful video once again, appreciate the step by step as a newbie. Worked perfect on my 65' convertible although the lines were reversed and a bit challenging to bend into the right places.

66 mustang here. I did this conversion and what's not said here is if you have to use an extra fitting, which I did, it changes the fitment of the provided line (the line that operates the front brakes) and this becomes a much more difficult installation. That preshaped line has to be reconfigured to fit and without a tubing bender, you may well be out of luck. I do have a tubing bender and I wonder if it might have been easier to just make another line to fit. A good conversion, though, and I'm happy with the results.

My 64 1/3 has two wires off the master cylinder do you have this problem on the comet or ranchero
@ronschlorff7089
@ronschlorff7089 Год назад
I checked them and must say that both were built by others but the Ranchero does have two wires out of it and the car has drum brakes, the Comet has disk brakes in front and I could not see any wires, I checked my 67 Cyclone too and it has power disc brakes and did not have any wires out of the master cylinder but may out of the booster which is not visible. I don't know that it is a "problem", may be for lights or sensors, and all cars stop fine, but as I said I did not install them myself. Good luck with your car. : )@@brandonfleetwood4201

Those two wires are the same as the 64.5 mustang, they are from a pressure switch on the M/C that activates your brake lights.

Installing master Cylinder on my 65. Noticed that my lines were opposite, black threaded portion was rear brake line that requires the included adapter. Initially it was a head scratcher but it was easy to figure out as one of the ports is large enough than the other.

Bill this may be a silly question but since this is for a 65-66, why don't they just supply the correct length pushrod? I cant imagine that they used a variety of rods on the single bowl ...thoughts ?

Kascus - You could mount the brake light pressure switch in the distribution block instead of using the plug. Otherwise you would have to convert it to a 67 pedal switch.

Why if ur 65 had a single master cylinder why it had the connections& adapter for front & rear ?
@classicstangbrn8964

Hey Bill 65 Mustangs don't use clips to hold the rod in the mc, there is a pedal stop on the pedal hanger, 66s do not so they do have a clip in the ms, so yours is not broken.

I cringed when you set the master cylinder on the fender cover. Might want to point out that brake fluid removes paint! ;) And a back up wrench on the distribution block would make it safer and easier to remove the brake line. Good video.

Amateur here. I'm converting my front drums to discs on my 64 Ranchero. I purchased a conversion kit that included a double chamber master cylinder attached to a vacuum power booster. The problem is that there is no space because the master cylinder hits the shock tower. Would it be prudent to just remove the power booster? As is, I'm already upgrading from a single chamber to a double chamber master cylinder so I believe it to be a step up. Please help

The line kit has wrong size flare nut.. Original Front Port on the distribution is 1/4" and the nut supplied on the line is for 3/16".. this makes a good kit a bad one... not everybody can cut and flare lines... but the people this 'kit' is marketed to can use wrenches.. Get your supplier Classic Tube to get this right... easy fix... Your statement at the 7.42 mark is true but this a BIG Disappointment for the cost not that I have to spend more money to get it to work.... bummer

WARNING The supplied brake lines are for a 1965 - NOT a 1966. They are different sizes and CJ apparently doesn't want to stock the correct item. They do the same thing with the heater box seal kit, and other items I've gotten from them. I'm done with getting parts from them. They know the parts aren't exactly correct, but with some effort & additional parts running the end user can usually make them work. That's a bad way to treat customers, so I won't be their customer any longer.

No it wont, it will make your braking system much more safe. If you have single bowl master cylinder and there is one leak in your breaking system, you will lose all brakes.
