Might want to put EUC in the title or something to link it to electric vehicles! I know the video has been out for a long time but I got lucky with search terms I suppose.
I have to agree about the helmet and wrist guards. Those two things are mandatory. Head injuries are the most devastating, and a broken wrist is the most likely. Then beyond that, elbow pads and knee pads. High top shoes or boots that provide ankle support can prevent a twisted ankle.
Concussions can happen at around 20mph,a skull fracture can also easily occur at this speed. Many PEVs can achieve 20mph so it is an immense risk not to wear a helmet.
a 20mph hit to the head without a helmet can EASILY be lethal... minimising to just concussions and skull fractures is being naive... is not just the speed at which your vehicle is going... you need to add the velocity in which you body pivots for example when you hit the flow with your knees ... it can easily reach extra 30mph... so at 20 mph your head can hit the ground at 50mph... add to that the force of impact that will be added if you hit a point object such as a curb or a the edge of a stone. Also if your head hits the floor on the side or the back the internal damage is much much worse.... you can have deadly impacts at 10mph if all the factors get compounded against you. Please quit the illusion that you're safe
My dad had a fall recently at like 8 mph off a scooter. He was wearing a bicycle helmet...still got a mild concussion and the foam of the helmet clearly broke in multiple places! I don't want to know what would have happened if he wasn't wearing. Even a fall from 0 mph can be lethal!
i'm glad you made this video. safety is so important. i couldn't agree with you more about safety gear can prevent serious injuries. i applaud you my friend.
Great review! I had a cut out on my V8 and feel my safety gear saved me from broken wrists and arms. One knee was badly grazed (no protector 😬) but thanks to a full face helmet, gloves, wrist guards and an armoured hoodie, I was just left with multiple sprains. (Thankfully no breaks)
Wow bro, i’m glad you were geared up and I’m glad you’re OK. I know sometimes it’s uncomfortable to wear the gear but we definitely must wear it if we’re going to ride. Stay safe and keep riding bro
Dope video. I wear a TSG helmet, Demon knee guards, and gloves. I just added a cuber summer jacket which has the protection for the elbows. Stay safe out there and keep up the cool videos.
I have all of it but I only wear some. Non negotiable for me is my full face helmet and wrist guards. I wear my knee pads about 50 percent of the time. I have a body Army but I hate wearing it. I only wear it on group rides.
Great info I ride with the assumption that at some point the wheel will fail or I will screw up, either case, I am going down so I wear the gear. Cheers
Great message that needs to be heard. I have been enjoying your channel. I have recently received the Veteran Sherman. It should be a whole new chapter on my channel. You have always been a good role model of wearing proper gear. I plan to reference your channel in my next video. I hope to bring your channel and the EUC "sport" more exposure to a different viewing audience. Keep up the great work. Safe cruising! Craig
Outstanding article brother! I build and ride DIY mountain and skateboards. I'm a big boy 225+ so need power just to get going... My boards range from a not so slow, slow 4wd topping out at 28 mph to Ludacris rocket board maxing out about 46 mph. I have 10's of 1000's of miles under my belt and the scars to prove it unfortunately. You are spot on about wrist guards!!! I had a foot of titanium in my hand for months from a fall at less than 10 mph. FULL face helmet is a necessity and I say that living in Florida so yeah heat sucks but 100% necessary if you like to eat solid food. Since you are facing front, guessing hip armor is not as much of an issue but for boarders it is. Again lessons learned the hard way... Knee\ elbow pads with shin guards are next. These will do you way more good than you think especially in minor falls. Prevent massive road rash type scars that are unpleasant at a minimum. I wish my body armor wasn't so hot because that is also more important than i like to admit especially when riding off-road forget about broken collar bone being a common injury for a second... almost impaled myself more times than i can count riding in unfamiliar areas or having to bail due to surprise obstacles. no way around it if you ride a PEV you will fall and you will get hurt. 1st ride or 100th doesn't matter, If you cannot accept the risk esponsibility eyes wide open, please don't ride! If you can, gear up, saddle up and let's ride cause yeah it is so worth it! :)
Good vid. Some very good points here, especially the one about loving/liking the equipment you wear. If its a pita to put on or is uncomfortable then your not going to wear it...One thing I have grown to love is my Lazy Rolling Hoodie, at least for cooler weather. its easy to put on and instant elbo, shoulder and back protection. Aside from that i always wear my demon podium full faced helmet, Leatt knee/shin guards & wrist protection. It only took one nasty spill and I learned my lesson quick. I was lucky and walked away with only road rash..Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Taz'.
Great video! We only have to remember Micheal Schumacher who is paralyzed from a skiing accident, head injury. Nonetheless, pavement, curb, sidewalk, tree are just as unforgiving as a boulder.
Scaphoid in your wrist and patella in your knee both can break under just a few pounds of force and both left me in an immobilizer for over a year. Moral of the story pads rock
I wear steel toe high top shoes. I have shorts with hip and tailbone padding but they are a hassle to put on and my pants need to be baggy to fit over them. In winter I wear gloves with wrist armor built in.
When I did mountain biking the bare minimum I wore was a full face helmet and gloves. I am looking to get an electric skateboard for commuting and the bare minimum I'll wear is a full face helmet and gloves but I am tempted to get some knee and shoulder and elbow pads just in case since I'll be doing 25 to 30 mph
I strongly believe in wearing a helmet at all times and a pair of gloves (with or without a wrist protector) for basic safety. However, if your only commuting and plan to stay off the street then its not as necessary to wear knee and elbow pads, if you are going on the street, appropriate clothing and padding is highly recommended. A good investment for those commuting is to buy a pair of Lazyrolling pants (casual, jeans, or slim cargo pants) which can protect you from a nasty fall. Generally a sweater or long sleeve tends to be fine if you fall at lower speeds (under 22 mph).
Great video. Very important that u must like ur gear otherwise u won’t wear em very true. I prefer wrist guards first then helmet for me. I got an LS2 helmet(but I really like urs), alpine Star gloves w/ Ewheels wrist guards, motorcycle hoodie, jacket, n roost guard, motorcycle jeans n dainese shoes. I’ve had enough road rash n I don’t like it so gear is essential. Stay safe n keep riding y’all
I have a pair of Toughbuilt Heavy Duty Gelfit knee pads that I wore on my most recent ride, but mostly because my left knee was starting to hurt. I don't think my stance is quite right, and it was torqueing my knee joint. The pads have built-in knee support, and the moment I put them on the aching stopped and I was able to ride the rest of the day in comfort. I'm still pretty young, so I want to make sure I don't destroy my body prematurely.
Good video, thanks man. The way I've always seen it with safety gear is, if at full running speed you can't slam yourself down in to the road as hard as you physically can without getting hurt, you haven't got enough safety gear on. You should be able to slam your body into the road at sprinting speed over and over, an over again without getting hurt, that's how I decide on what safety gear to wear. P.S. you should always wear gloves, as humans have evolved to put our hands out to save our heads in a stack.
Only x2 Problems with: SteelBird Air 2 Helmet is that the Regular size (which the helmet only comes in 2 sizes I think) , is it leaves base of your your chin exposed, it doesn't give that full chin protection...also, the forehead is hurts as it is too snug (maybe you can grind out some material in forehead area of the helmet?)...
instead of looking at your phone you can have a smartwatch with the eucworld app on it... it will connect to the eucworld app on your phone and show you the same screens... and you can even setup quickaction shortcuts on it.... i have my Avas on /off by tapping my watchscreen and holding it for a second
I have watched this video multiple times as I entered the EUC hobby. It would be nice to see an update to show new products. You rave about the Steelbird Air in this video but I noticed that it's not listed in your LinkTree. Do you still recommend this helmet?
Yes I do still recommend the Steelbird however I actually needed a little bigger size and it seems to be hard to find. I will work on an update video thanks again for watching
If there is a group ride and someone shows up not properly equipped with safety gear, I won’t ride with that group I’ll go home or somewhere else. I won’t even watch videos of people that are improperly equipped.. this is how much I dislike the liability
I agree with you. I normally do the same thing, but I have been out of town in places where I can’t really control it and then forced to ride with people without the proper gear and I voice my opinion and how upset it makes me.
@@ThaBlackCobra you can control yourself anywhere you go ,you just can’t control others in their stupidity. You will never win in an argument against stupidity, because they have more experienced than you .If you knew exactly how many stupid motherfkrs are out there, it would absolutely shock you.
ok. 33 celcius degrees outside. im trying to get to massage or to the beach to swim. do i really need all that gear? where do i store all that when im at the massage or at the beach? i have to buy 120 litre backpack or something
Hey there. I'm considering purchasing one of these. I'm doing my research on safety gear. Are there wrist guards with mirrors on them so you can see behind you?
It’s OK to get whichever ones you like. The more you like them the more you’ll wear them. The braces will work if you have them it’s just that most people usually don’t spend that much on their knee protection. Like I said, you can wear whatever you like as long as you wear something always.
People just buy a motorcycle helmet just thing about it for a sec you are riding a long and your wheel get stuck in a bump now the wheel is at a dead stop but your body is still moving at 20-30mph now thing what would happen if your head contacted to pavement at that speed?!? Ya I think it would be like dropping a egg on a hardwood floor lmao so just speed the $200 plus and protect your head
I don’t get people who are not at least wearing a helmet. If you break a leg, it can heal. If you get brain damage, you will likely never have the same cognitive capacity again. Also the safety gear looks bad ass!
Helmets are the MOST important piece of safety gear, if you break an arm or leg you have to wear a cast, maybe surgery. You crack your skull, you have to learn to walk and talk again.
@@ThaBlackCobra I'm not saying not to wear it, but for slow rides I would not wear full body armor. It also creates impression that those things are super dangerous...
I've been driving cars for over 20 years. You people (noob drivers who lack real experience) are clueless, truly clueless about safety. Wear your gear, but what about driving experience?
