Make sure to truly thank all those who jump in to help, the boating community is a great one, and as far as painting in cooler weather, it seems to bond better than high heat/humidity..so there's that ;) The sent hatch is a blessing, and so is the person who sent it ;) The rails were a necessary addition, and the beds turned out nice. Keep working away, and think people need to remember, you're not trying to get it perfect now, just get it down the coast. Hopefully things are going well for you both.
@@mikeoconnell4229 They should not venture out in salt water with the condition of that bottom. But they are just playing games and making money on the channel. More power to them as long as they don't deceive other young people with their shoddy methods. Is that good for you Mikey?
I have binge watching from the beginning tonight ive watch many sv channels and people buying cats for the first time and fixing them i love this . Ive worked one other people's boats and have been self trained and i cant wait to start a sailing channel in the near future
Hi guys, you should consider fixing correctly bubbly areas on the body of the boat that obviously are under water line! These bubbles are a result of Osmosis process when sea water penetrate through hulls made of fiberglass, and weaken them by propagation of rot. Therefore, u must detect the extend of humidity on the body of the boat, using a portable humidity meter, then u mark the areas, u scratch them of, then leave them to dry for one or two days in the sun also u can use a hair dryer too. Then check again the humidity befor applying a fiberglass tissue and resins. Then after smooth the surface and add an additional layer of epoxy, wait for it to dry, then paint the whole body with marine grade rubber paint, and that's it, a job for four days for your small nice boat!
You do realize you're talking to someone who has a sheet of plywood for a door that they found on the ground and you think they're going to fix that properly you've got to be kidding me
I think it looks great. You guys are really putting the boat together. Ignore the haters. The boat isn't perfect but you are doing what others only dream of. Be proud.
Thank you guys for this project , it puts such a big smile on my face when I see you have a new vid up it just makes my day, can't wait to see you two on the water enjoying everything you have worked towards 😀
Come for the scary patches below the waterline, stay for the rig raising! Based entirely on on past performance, I'm guessing your plan for the rig is synthetic shrouds(dock lines) and chain-plates secured with butyl tape and self-tappers? In all seriousness this is one of the more entertaining boat channels so keep on doing what you do - it's working.
When watching these videos all I hear is: Just sit right back And you'll hear a tale A tale of a fateful trip That started from this tropic port Aboard this tiny ship The mate was a mighty sailing man The skipper brave and sure Five passengers set sail that day For a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour
You epoxied over bottom paint? Ablative bottom paint? You understand what the word Ablative means right? Ablative bottom paint is designed to come off in strips taking the growth with it. In your patch’s case your patch will come off as you move through the water. The more you move the faster that patch will fail. Edit wrote this before I saw the end. Your friend came and ground the patch clean. Good deal.
Hello dear friends. Your enthusiasm is amazing, I absolutely hate to say this, that area where you epoxied has an area underneath where you see bubbled fiberglass....that is an area of rotted wood, you need to properly cut it out and patch with new wood and fiberglass. Sorry guys, it will collapse and sink yourcat. If it is solid fiberglass it doesn’t matter, you have to grind the entire area all the way down to healthy hull, I suspect it is almost through the entire hull. It will fail, sorry friends. We love you guys and do not want you out in the Atlantic and have a massive hull failure. So sorry. House looking good
Please keep posting your videos, they`re very entertaining. A lot of the people that are giving you a hard time have never attempted to fix anything, much less try to make a trip like you`re going to attempt. You still have a lot to learn but if you will listen to and learn from the people who are trying to help you, you`ll get along just fine. We all have to start somewhere. Be careful, be sure to have all of the required safety equipment, and don`t take any unnecessary chances. One suggestion, get a wireless microphone. Good luck, Jeff
You guys did a pretty fare job getting the tiny houseboat cleaned up and presentable/livable, why not just put it up for sale and take the cash to refit and refurbish the Cat boat properly?
If you glass in some "hanging and lodging knees" where your chainplates are it will give structural support for you to attach the chainplates to and secure your deck to the hull. It's like a reinforcing bracket for x and y axis. Easy enough to do and it's a must. Good luck as always.
Bro. They consult with a guy who has this identical boat. I think they have the enginnering part covered. Why over engineer? It's not a Outremer or Leopard....
You go guys! all these haters WISH they had the guts to take on a project like this in their 20s. Or the partner who is equally excited. Chances are most sit miserably wishing they did what you are doing when they were young. Stay safe and have fun!
@@mikeoconnell4229 - It's exactly how it was when the motored the boat to where it's at. They are motoring all the way to Florida. It will be fine to get them there. They're not going to be sailing at all.
How are you planning on straightening up those scoops? I'm sure if you reply some of us can give you some tips! I love how the interior is coming along. Make sure she isn't getting overwhelmed with fumes down there. May be a good time to pull those windows out while painting.
I know this is the second time I have mentioned this but you really need a second smaller outboard something between 3 and 6 hp as a backup so you're not dead in the water. You will find that attaching an outboard rudder to your outboard will help you manoeuvre the boat at slower speeds you will find your self course correcting and the boat will feel sensitive and twitchy without one. Do you have any plans on putting the mast back up there's nothing like moving through the water without the noise of an engine there's always an ahhhh moment when under sail and I cut the engine.
They won’t listen to you. They know it all. At least they are still alive since they continue to post videos. You and are of the generation of being smart, doing it right, and most of all, being safe.
@@finnsailing69 all I can say is, that would be one hell of a record for anyone to beat lol. Catamaran would be on top for a long time. At least until someone decided to put two f22 engines on it lmao!!
I fully understand you're rushing to get it back closer to home, but I hope you are going to get it back out of the water and sort out the bottom properly, if you try to cut corners with the finish there you will have nothing but problems forever with it, you want the bottom to be like glass or as close as possible to it. if you don't you will waste money on fuel, get very little speed when you do get the sails up, constantly be having to scrape the wildlife off it and the list goes on, with a boat you can't have the attitude "it'll do" that is a recipe for disaster
That's a proper 10ft boat! As in: "it looks great from 10 feet away!" I wish they'd have sanded the "sugar scoops" down to a better finish. I *cringe* every time I see how lumpy they look.
The boat needs a lot of work doing to it before you slash. there are no bulk heads in the boat to strengthen the boat all you have is a shell of a boat. you need to work on the boat to make it sea worthy. if you get boarded by the coast guard the boat will be classed as unworthy of sailing. you have no safety equipment on board no life jackets no mast for sails spare parts for the outboard motor. no radio to send out any distress communication if the boat starts taking on water. you need to stay were you are and get the work done on the boat or get some one to do the work for you. all i can see is a boat being splashed and a boat sinking
@@9to5less Will do I don't use FB often but I do have an account to use marketplace I'll get in touch and just give you my number. Keep on building your dream.

@@mauricepowers8079 Charlotte County. Check craigslist for Fort Myers and Florida Keys. This place is full of cheap boats, but after rehabbing over 100 I assure you few of them are really cheap in the end.
on the house boat, you should mount more robust ball bearing slides at the top and middle of the sliding wall if you want it to float that little bit above the floor. It's a good idea, just needs some tweaking.
This is timely. It was mid 70s in Port Charlotte today. I just got home after putting a new Mastervolt battery charger in a Tiara. Come on down. There is room for you in south Florida.
I have been watching all of your videos I am a expert on fiberglass and painting yachts for over forty years as well as most things relevant to boating. I believe that I could give you a lot of information in a short amount of time if you are interested let me know and we can figure out a way to contact
Man, you need to learn the terminology if you are going to be a sailor. Kitchen is galley. Living room is salon. Toilet is head. On and on. That kind fellow who properly repaired that loose glass on your bottom did you a big favor, I hope you watched him. You can’t just lather up some fiberglass and slap it on a bad spot. Below the waterline is the most important part of your boat. All in all though, I am envious of your adventure and wish you the best on your voyages. Learn all you can about weather, it may save your life. Good luck, watching. By the way, as I read down I am seeing some very nasty, negative comments. Ignore them, they are RU-vid sailors or just plain idiots. I formally held a Masters license and you have shown me something. You have a lot to learn but you will make it. Many of those commenters are just jealous.
If y'all are fiberglass newbies, here's a tip; slather yourselves with baby powder before you start, and it'll make the whole experience a lot less itchy. I guess it gets in your pores so the glass doesn't. Or at least nowhere near as much of the glass does.
I think i know where another catamaran like your is. Its right down the street from where i think your at.Looks like the Back River Bay. Harris Creek Marina? I live around the corner On the Back River Canal. By the Gosnal Hope Park. Damian and I would love to see the progress.
So glad you caught that failing patch. Not sure about it's repair or the repair to the rub rail (fiberglass over paint on both spots!?) .... Will need to be hauled out and done better once you get to Fl. I would have gotten a bigger outboard to motor to FL with and kept that lil one as back up. Please have fun, but try to be safe.
This is one of the most entertaining video channels there is. You know you shouldn't watch, but you just can't look away. LOL.. Really though, despite what all the nay sayers are commenting on, keep it inside the ICW and it'll make it to Florida just fine so you can pull it back out and do it right. I would love to have a boat like to tinker with. On a final note, go get an Epidemic Sound acct set up and throw some background tunes in there.
Jess has the Bluest eyes I've ever seen! Such a cutie with a personality to match! Man, those "sugar scoops" really look rough. What are your plans to make them match the rest of the hull? I'm still concerned that you don't have any way of steering other than with the motor! What about the lee/enter boards on each hull? Where are they? So nice that you received the "new" hatch. The bottom paint turned out pretty good and I'm hoping that the patched hole doesn't leak. Mast and boom coming soon? I know, lots of questions but there are so many things remaining to make this small cat sea worthy. Really enjoying watching the process!
Yaounde and Jessica are doing a great job, and I jus luv ya'lls quirky personalities (quirky in a good wqay)...way to get your vessel's ship shape....have ya'll conscirdered starting a boat restoration business?
This cat is quickly turning into a death trap due to you two not doing anything properly and not taking the time to learn the correct way to do the refit. Listen to the advice, even the criticism here contains sound advice that if you really listened, you would learn a lot from. Good luck, I hope that you survive your first sail in the wreck that you are creating.
Why the rush? This rust to launch may just sink that boat! Tat patch on the hull that was letting loose, needs to be repaired properly. Shoving epoxy on it is a fools repair. Strip it down and patch it properly! Or just light a match and burn the boat. At least burning it will let you roast some hot dogs on it, where as the inevitable sinking will just be a total loss! I'm not jerking your chain to be an asshole. I truly am concerned that you will go down with the boat.
Keep up the videos they are awesome to watch. Have you had any previous experience with fixing boats before? I have no experience and am enjoying watching and learning from all the sailing channels. Want to get my own boat someday to fix and work on.
Robert Rudolph is there a reason you got to be negative to people. they never said they were experts there are two average people sharing their experiences and you got to be an asshat about it. Have you never heard the same if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all, to break that down it means keep your fucking mouth shut.
that patch is what happens when you try to fiberglass to anything OTHER than fiberglass....where are you guys in FL..if you are near me in Stuart I can try and help you out as much as possible.
Lots of work , things are moving along nice, i bet you cant wait to get to warmer weather, will make everything easier for sure, nice to see safety items, be safe and have an adventure of your life. your will make memories very fast once you leave.
I want to be supportive of these kids doing what I wish I'd done when I was young, but at the same time some of their boat projects make me want to REEEEE. So here is what I'm doing to handle this dichotomy: They can't announce it, but secretly they are making a "Waterworld 2" movie and this is one of the 1st boats. I'm excited. I hope Costner is available.
*_ EXACTLY!! My question is "Where the hell are these two total amateurs going to 'SAIL' this Tub, some lake, pond or the ICW only. By the looks of things they only got an Outboard motor to steer by! Will someone let them know that if you sail you need RUDDERS!!! _*
If they get it to15 knot winds or more they will Scoot across the water like a piece of Styrofoam. I hope they will do more research before they set off on any Bluewater adventure.
I really hope you are not going anywhere near open water in this boat of yours and have your safety gear very close to hand, I am watching with interest.
It is frightening the way you patch a bottom defect! It is an underwater portion! It is your life man! Please see video channels such as "Sail Life" and watch how professionally and correctly people work on their boats. Paint covers mistakes, correct them before you cover. Please try to flex the handrails to check the strength and check that screws are all that is needed. Probably the whole skin may pry out. I admire your enthusiasm, but please do not do anything without professional advice. It looks like the whole skin structure needs some reinforcement. Do you have a clear plan, timeframe, and budget?
why you guys didnt sand anything?sugar scopes, hulls and cabin, all should had been sanded then fairing then sanded again and then pain, the finish you¡ll get worth it
I'm sorry like I say scared but elated at the same time to be so nieve is just so unbelievable, but then hold on a minute they actually haven't said what they are doin other than going to florida to another hard stand no doubt or the bottom
They missed lotta stuff on the bottom of the boat should've sanded everything off smooth not rough bottle of boat will collect all of the mess from the water
Guys, I do love to watch your videos, but you seriously need to reconsider you attempt to sail anywhere. Also, you need better reasearch prior attempting any repairs. Haste will only get you in trouble and in open waters, this will be serious one.
Mcguyvers plan: put both boats in water , ratchet strap the house boat in front and between the cats pontoons,,, now you have 2 engines, a safety vessel/ dingy , a proper steering wheel, kitchen, more room for guest like people here who would love to go on a adventure... YOU MIGHT NOT DROWN big plus,,, and with any luck you would have 2 more garbage boats here in florida,,, GEEZ WONDERFUL.... and YES i know ALOT about boats check my channel...
