You are correct, Hell’s gate is near Manhattan, NY at the intersection of the Harlem River, the East River and the Long Island sound. Very strong and unpredictable currents there.

You had it easy at Hell Gate. The current and tide were ripping when I went thru. I went out Doboy Sound into the ocean and came back in at Jekyll's Island 2 weeks ago. It was the perfect day for it. Seas were 1 to 2' and just enough wind to motor sail at 8 knots. I arrived in Green Cove Springs, FL on 12/10. Going to be here a while doing maintenance, repairs and upgrades.

Spartina grass, a smooth cord grass, is a grass that grows in saltwater. It is the most common grass in tidal marshes . It can tolerate changes in salinity and water depth as the tides flow in and out of the marsh. Spartina grass plays an important role in the estuary food web. The grass provides food directly and indirectly to many animals. Insects such as grasshoppers eat the grass, and spiders prey on insects eating the grass. Algae and detritus floating in the water stick to the grass stems. Small animals such as snails cling to the grass and graze on the algae and detritus. Surprisingly, Spartina grass provides the greatest amount of food when it is dead. When Spartina grass dies, it may become a large floating mass of dead grass, called a wrack . Bacteria and other microorganisms break down the dead grass into pieces of detritus. It takes about a year for the grass to be broken down into pieces of detritus small enough to be eaten by other animals. Clams, oysters, mussels, snails, crabs, and many other animals feed on this detritus. Spartina grass also provides habitat for many animals. The dense stems provide cover for fish and crabs hiding from predators. Mussels grow in clumps at the base of the stems.

I reckon it’s time for me to stop watching this channel. The videos are posted far too long after the events, with no information about the actual date/s of the event/s. For those who will now ask how I know they’re old, with no dates given, it’s easy ..... Jess has been gone for a long time already, but the videos all still have her in them. I’m also flabbergasted (but extremely pleased) that disaster has not struck, given the level of ineptitude of the skipper and crew, and state of the boat.

Honestly, I don't watch this old vids anymore. You should seriously reconsider to switch to new one you mentioned. Now as we know, more or les, that he is gone, to me it sounds better to start fresh. This vids gives kinda weird feeling.
