Safety Razor vs. Gillette Mach3 Sensitive Power  

I love the Mach 3, still feel it’s the best of the cartridge razors. Super comfortable and shaves close.

Yeah, Dr. Carver's shave butter and Cremo aren’t made to really lather. Although Cremo does lather some. My thought on the shaving brush is to help raise the hairs on my face. Which I just discovered this past Saturday actually works well for that purpose. The Dr. Carver’s shave butter is just a clear shaving cream that isn’t meant to lather and Cremo I found only layers/foams up on the thin side. It's really about face lubrication and getting help with raising the hairs on my face. My last two shaves were better, smoother and less irritating with prepping my face using the shave brush I currently own.

which blade did you use in the de razor?

I loved your techniques. I feel the only irritating part of the Mach 3 and other cartridges was that its hard to clean the hair out of the blades when compared to a safety razor.

I have an old Gillette contour my dad gave me after I got sick of electric shavers, and I recently got my first de and safety razors are so much better in my opinion

The Mach # rocks . Last night I had to shave fast, used a good gel and eight minutes later three days growth was destroyed !! Great shave.

I love your videos and in them I notice that you are referring to Mach3 as the perfect choice for doing the shave. However, I had been using a Mach3 Power razor handle for many years and it has been just recently that I migrated to a Fusion Proshield razor, introduced to me by a friend. I never knew what I had been missing before. I believe that the Fusion line of products are far better and quick than the more traditionally Mach3 machines. I also have a sensitive skin but yet I find Fusion to be working like a charm on my face. Btw, thanks for the videos. Keep on doing the nice job.

That’s a nice shaving brush. Like that brush quite a bit! Have to work too hard with that Nivea shaving cream, though. I wonder if using a brush with my Dr. Carver’s shave butter or my Cremo shave cream would help more with raising the hairs on my face more? I, usually, just apply these to my face using my fingers/finger tips. The skin abive my upper lip is real super sensitive. I always have to be careful as it doesn’t take well to multiple passes of the razor most times without getting some small weepers of blood throughout that entire area.

Talking bout cartridge/disposable razors I like the blue two blades gillette ones, I just feel that more than two blades feels pretty rough.

can you do a philips oneblade vs philips ladyshave for beard the ladyshave is much more precise and gives u a second pass shave

Vander Hagen also has a Shave Butter that is absolutely great for shaving and leaves your face "ultra moisturized"! I agree the Gillette Mach-3 is a super disposable but not quite as great as my DE Merkur 34-C safety razor which just about walks on water when used with a Feather blade.

Just in case you want to try it out, you can use a double edge razor with barbosal or Gillette foamy if you want. I did it before and I do like it.

I couldn't use a safety razor until i turned 24 due to my acne but ever since then I've been using one for the last 2 years. Cartridge razors are for sensitive skin and amateurs mainly.

This razor is modeled after the old vintage Gillette Superspeed. You should pick one up, they’re pretty cheap on eBay. Nothing like shaving with something from the 40’s and 50’s that still performs perfectly.

How are you doing today, what is better / the difference between Gillette Mach 3 or Gillette Mach 3 turbo.

Okay, That’s fine. I just wanted to make sure they didn’t end up lost of the mail or someone pilferred our mailbox. My wife and I live in an area where package/mail theft is a problematic issue. Thanks for getting back to me1

Another great video Tony. That Nivea cream is sweet. If I'm in a rush nivea cream from a can (I know shock horror!) with a few drops of water makes it super slick and a Mach 3 too. You're stepping it up a level too with a straight razor. Might I suggest a Shavette - it's cheaper and much less work maintenance wise than a full straight. BTW it will punish you if don't use it properly, much more than a DE. Make sure there is zero pressure. Enjoy the weekend.

Mach3 is a good one (better than Fusion Proglide, in my opinion), nevertheless a decent safety razor is the best. But the thing with a safety razor is you have to implement (or develop) the right technique to get a comfortable shaving experience. Some men are just not that patient, I guess. BTW I liked that shape of the brush very much, never seen one like that before.

As a wet shaver, it looks like you have good technique with your Safety razor, but your lather is too dry. If you have to keep re-applying like this it means it doesn't have enough water. Try adding more water, or painting the soap/cream on your face, then dipping the tips of your brush in some water and painting over the soap then swirling on your face to hydrate the soap. You can still keep the thin layer with a fully hydrated lather.

I prefer a 1940s or 1950s Gillette Super-Speed or Merkur 34c with a good blade over the cartridges. And a good soap. Thanks for your video!

BTW, I STILL have one of the original green Mach 3 Power handles with STILL 3 sets of green Mach 3 power/sensitive blades. It is hard to find these green Mach 3 power cartridges any longer and when I do find them in stores/pharmacies or online, the sellers want to empty my wallet for these cartridges. I wonder if I can use some other cheaper Gillette Mach 3 cartridge variants with my green Mach 3 power handle?

I was using mach 3 razors for shaving, but after switching to DE razors there is no way back to cartridge razors. Once you start using de razors you will love ur shavings.

I used to love the Mach 3, it was one of the best cartridge razors around. It gave me a good shave but it was still tugging, pulling and clogging up constantly. After switching to a DE razor however, I think the Mach 3 is pure shit. You'll never get as good a shave at home like a DE razor. Go grab an 89 style razor, which is a mild razor, and it will be super safe and still give you a much better shave at a MUCH lower cost.

A few things . That DE razor is the worst . I use a merkur 38c or a Edwin Jagger de89 . Also your lather was way to dry . Nivia needs work to get a good lather .

Thanks for doing an evenhanded comparison of the two different types of razors. Personally I can't stand DE shaving, it rips my face open and I never get a close shave with it so I'm going back to cartridges. Sadly there's a very elitist community out there that craps on anything invented in the last century, so it's good to see videos with a more balanced perspective.

You don't flip the blade, that will cause you to use your pack of blades up faster before the month is up!! The correct method is to use one side of the razor for the 15 days of the month than for the rest of the month use the other side. This is the correct way to shave with a DE razor and you will get consistently close BBS shave all month long. I know this from experience.

Any Mach3 head will work with that thing..so the closet to the "sensitive" model is the Turbo....or Cheap out and get the Schick Hydro3/Store brand Mach 3 comparable cart lol. I was surprised you didn't LEAF shave...vs Mach 3....enjoy the Nivea BRUH.
