Thanks for the video. Used it to replace the brake stop cable on a Stratton and Briggs series 450 mower. The cable is in a different position but it's the exact same cable you used and it only cost $11 for the cable from the Walmart app. A lot better to fix it myself than paying the small engine repair store to do it for me.
Thanks, just went through Hell and back changing the belt on my Dad’s 18 yo Craftsman EZ walk lawnmower, and noticed his safety bar seemed liked it didn’t have enough tension on it. Now I know where to start. Great video! 👍
You can look up online the cable specific to your mower. The key measurements of course, are the length on the the sheath through which the cable runs, and the overall length of the inner wire/cable.
The brake is held tight against the flywheel by spring tension. When you squeeze the handle, the pulling action of the cable pulls against the spring tension and moves the brake off the flywheel. It sounds to me like you might need a new cable. Does the inner wire slide easily up and down the outer sheath? They sometimes rust out and stop moving. Good luck.
