SaGa Frontier 2 - Feldschlact II & IV | Reacting To Video Game Music! 

This is the OST that showed me "yes I do like classic music actually"

I'm so glad that early Hamauzu's works have been requested, his harmonies are unique and so refreshing I think he's not getting enough credit out of all the composers working on FF and other Square games I hope you'll get to hear some of his music from FFX as well! Great reaction as always Edit : I think his work on Saga Frontier 2 really impressed people (he wasn't the composer for Saga Frontier 1 by the way), it sounded different and fresh and I think it helped bringing him on FFX later He was also in the choir for the OG One Winged Angel

This game's OST is fantastic, Hamauzu is a genius! My personal favorite of the 4 Feldschlacht's themes is the 3rd one, the intro alone is pure magic.

I love these songs; they play during the normal battles and change as you progress through the game. Feldschlacht means something like "battlefield"

Aaaaaah I adore this soundtrack and I adore Hamauzu. SaGa Frontier 2 is one of the only rpg soundtracks I can think of that I would actually describe as a take on "classical music." (Or at least what I picture to be classical music) Dunno if that's totally accurate, but Hamauzu has definitely been classically trained. SUCH a sense of impressionism.

I'm amazed you decided to cover this game. Hopefully you'll be doing more. The entire soundtrack is incredible.

I'm a few late but this is one of my favorite nostalgic OST's. It's actually the one that taught me the concept of a Le Motif, as there are 4 Feldschlacts, which I think translates to "Field Battle" or something? but little bits of this le motif are scattered ALL over saga frontier 2, across numerous tracks like Bessenheit, Todfeind, Missgestalt, etc. It's glorious and one of the reasons Hamauzu is my sleeper favorite amongst Square's composers.

SF2 is one pf my favourite games of alltime. Hamauzu was born in Germany by japanese parents and grew up there. I like to describe his music as a mix of Japanese and German. If you listen to a lot of his songs, you can hear he is very influenced by western german/austrian classical musicians. I don't know how much influence he had in this game but I wouldn't be suprised if he suggested the names of all the songs because they're all german as I understand it and I believe he speaks it. I am swedish and can understand some german. A fun note. In swedish the name for a battle is "Fältslag". That's the name I envision when I hear Feldschlacht. It is unavoidable not to compare Hamauzu with Uematsu. In general I have liked more songs by Uematsu, however, if I want to listen to video game music that resemblance more classical music then I prefer Hamauzu. Uematsu is a progressive rock and Hamauzu is classical music (a simplification). I would recommend checking out the album called: Vielen dank (thank you very much).

Feldschlact II has to be my favorite because that sound like of "Battle to the Death" theme!

My fav Hamauzu ost

I've heard of the SaGa series and have heard a few songs from it here and there. II just drops you right into the action; the bass gives me lots of Genesis vibes. The melody is pretty jovial for a song with a bit of a darker feel on the low end, there's a lot of movement going on here. This has a very cool tone for a battle theme, I don't think I've heard this feel for a battle theme before. I like this one although it sounds a bit weird to me. IV instantly gives me some more tropical vibes, like Sonic 3's title screen. The part at 4:14 gives me some Castlevania vibes; the strings add some nice intensity to the composition. This has a very unique tone as well, I don't know how to feel about this one but I'm not feeling anything negative towards it.

He created 4 versions of this song for the SaGa Frontier 2 OST: Parts I, II, III and IV. They are all great in their own ways. He also created Feldschlact V as part of a Re-arranged OST years later. It's a shame it wasn't included in the game because it's the best version of the song for me. I highly recommend checking it out in your spare time, Jesse, it's not something that will be obviously requested because it's not part of the OST per se.

These songs were both cool. The SaGa series is indeed another Square series though more niche. Not one I've played (yet).

This game is an underrated gem. Definitely and easily my favorite SaGa game overall.

SaGa Frontier 2 is the Hamauzu work that is most heavy on let motif. Feldschlacht 4 has the two most prominent ones in it. So you now know the general tune of the game. And all Feldschlacht themes are regular battle music.
