Well, since Xenogears is obviously way more popular than SaGa Frontier, who's to say Square Enix won't give Xenogears a Remake. Especially since they fixed the Xenogears Easter Egg in newer ports of the original FF7 (it was originally mistranslated in English back in 1997).
Xeno gears is the most deserving game of all time for a remaster. Disc 2 took the game from potentially one of the best games ever to a mediocre unfinished mess. Never seen a game drop off so far so fast. Very unfortunate.
@@Yusei255 All I'm saying is that Xenogears is light years more popular than SaGa Frontier. Up there with Chrono Trigger/Cross, Final Fantasy 6, Tactics, and 9. Every Square fan worth their salt has heard of Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. When I ask people in video game pawn stores "who has heard of SaGa Frontier?" not even the owners of those Pawn Shops have heard of SaGa Frontier. If someone listed the Square Enix games most likely to get a Remake, Xenogears and Chrono Trigger would be near the top, and SaGa Frontier near the very bottom.
aka what I was missing from Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana's remakes. ToM sadly only added endgame stuff that.. ultimately didnt really matter (besides being a rehash of already existing elements in the game), a final form for each character that made the multiple playthrough ending classes obsolete sadly, added some minor talk moments for the characters but didnt for example flesh out their prologues, tried to balance out the difficulty on the highest setting (the game is seen as too easy even on the hardest difficulty) and didn't change anything in the main story whatsoever that felt rough or unclear, heck the cut kraken boss fight in the vulcano area where u find the turtle to travel across the sea wasn't readded. Also them removing multiplayer all together hurt part of the experience, esp when this was features in the original game.
@@HalifaxHercules Blue's ending is kind of by design though, he's supposed to have the bad ending; Perfect Works says Rouge is the one who does it anyway and is able to escape to a happy ending.
it's due to this that you know it's not just a lazy remaster cashgrab. The fact that they added the cut 8th character, in addition to new events and such shows that they've actually put some effort into this.
@@Xenoriddley And is it just me, or did they use that AI Gigapixel Upscaling thing we've all been asking for with Final Fantasy? Those backgrounds don't look pixelated to me.
Saga 1, 2 and 3 should not be Switch exclusive ports. they should at least remaster them for PS4 and other platforms too like Konami has collections that include NES and SNES ports of Castlevania and Contra that are playable on PS4.
It is funny because a couple months ago when they announced the collection of the Gameboy FF Legend games (actually the first 3 SaGa games), all I could do was think that I rather them give us SaGa Frontier. Well....here we are!
I'm just glad they're showing love to the step child of the square enix library. All we hear is FF and DQ and other titles and now they've been dropping SaGa finally here in the west.
I wonder if the reason why we havent seen a remaster yet for xenogears is because of all the unfinished content that never made it onto the 2nd disc. Heck, even if square does remaster xenogears, it wouldn't feel like a true remaster unless the unfinished content was included.
@@whathe4633 , I agree. They'd definitely have to make disc 2 properly. The Xeno name is popular so Square really doesn't have much to lose with a remake.
@@whathe4633 Xenogears was a huge project compared to SaGa Frontier 1, and Disc 2's original plan was going to make it even larger. Not an easy remaster, and it's made even more messy due to Monolith and Nintendo now. Square was too quick in dismissing the Xeno IP, imo.
@@arghyadhar5805 haven’t played that one. But back in the ps1 days I bought every rpg that came out and Saga Frontier is one of the few I never really understood it didn’t make much sense to me and I didn’t find it very entertaining.
There is a Advertisement for this game on the last page of the of my Original Final Fantasy 7 ps1 booklet... Now they dont do booklets... I always enjoyed them. A little Extra thing Game Company used to do....
Interestingly enough some Steam releases for PC now do PDF "booklets". Not quite the same, but as we move into a digital-download era, it's something at least, but yeah i agree i used to love getting a brand new game and on the way home from the store reading the entire booklet in excitement for playing the game.
@@PoePox That is pretty cool! Maybe when my moutain gets better ISP I will be able to enjoy that. But for now I'll just have to buy a Empty box made of Recycled plastics.
This is my favorite RPG and I'm effin ecstatic about this. I have been WAITING for this because I needed Fuse's story and Asellus' mystic questline. OH THANK GOD!!
Maybe they're going to do a big reveal similar to FF7R? Either that, or they'll do a proper remaster such as this, and do an announcement for a third game?
Hopefully this means Lute's story has been fixed. Originally he was supposed to have a base plot for his story but due to time restraints and lack of resources they had to cut like 90% of his story out of the game and made him a wanderer. Fuse originally was supposed to be in the game as a main character but was cut due to time restraints. So this makes me hopeful that they course corrected alot of the main character stories and added the content they originally had to cut down on just to ship the game.
I can’t believe this is happening. This was my one of my favorite games ever made ( the sequel is fantastic too). But does this means the floodgates are open? Perhaps a legend of mana remaster too? Omg take my money please I’m buying this on my phone and PC
I mean they already did a Final Fantasy Adventure remake and a Secret of Mana remake and the *excellent* Trials of Mana remake so it's probably in the cards.
I'd be surprised as judging by how they put out adventure of Mana, it seems to suggest that SE was not pleased with the Mana series post Legend (so including Children, Heroes, Dawn, Sword); it's sort of a shame; as wonky as those post Legend titles were, Legend was an interesting game.
It was only a matter of time, and honestly:D? I am SO glad they are adding the cut content!!! Maybe we'll get to see what's up that one ladder in the Koorong Sewers or what the trap door is for in that Owmi Mansion:D Or something!
YES! I love the game, but it is so unfinished. I wont ask for all of the cut content making it in, but there's so much that could potentially getting put in.
I'd love if they put in the original Asellus escape with the flames and the clothes burning off. Was so weird to have that big firepit with no purpose in Rootville.
I think the director hinted at it awhile back saying he’d like to see the other games released to new audiences (also heard the same thing about Legend of Mana).
@@Silvergun_Raven I mean last year was the series 30th anniversary and in 12 months we got Romancing SaGa 3 Remastered, Romancing SaGa Re:Universe and SaGa Scarlett Grace AMBITIONS. And SaGa 1-3 were announced for Switch a few months ago.
The fact that this is getting a re-release makes me giddy as hell. This was my first SaGa game, so I am SOOOOOOOOOOO ready for this! ^_^ And it's going to be the full complete experience on top of it! I am HYYYYYYYPE for this! ^_^
It's happening great games returning. I'm waiting for this for years. I have a dream that all games like this returns, xenogears, chrono cross, chrono trigger, wild arms, valkyrie profile, lunar silver star story and eternal blue, tales of phantasia and tales of destiny 1 and 2, and many others. THX to do I remember the best times of my life.
This is awesome!! Saga Frontier was an underrated incomplete gem. Hopefully will see my four favorites Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story and Xenogears get a remaster.
The return of Alkaiser. So happy this is getting remastered. Best Saga game in my opinion and it has, without a doubt, some of Ito's best music. Anyone that hasn't played is in for a treat :)
Dang, this means Lute and Blues storyline is a lot more complete. Cause i remember the original teams that did this game had a last minute 1 week notice to finish the game, i think same happened for Xenogears and FF tactics.
This is some of the best news I've heard all year. The sprites look so crisp and keep all the original charm, and the translation looks spot on. Not to jinx it, but I hope this arrives on time and target.
This is amazing! It's great to see Fuse finally get his playable route, and hopefully they'll put back in the cut true final boss after beating every route as well!
@@nicknamenickname56 Yeah, the game in general has a lot of content missing because Squaresoft rushed the team (same thing happened with Xenogears). It's funny how they somehow went from that to the company that let FFXV go through almost a decade of development hell...
There most likely will be in Asia (via Play-Asia). That's how I got RS3 on Physical! I hope it comes with a poster or something, the art is beautiful. They have it at the SE Cafe already!
Man, a tear rolled when a friend showed me this trailer XD This was my 1st SaGa game and my favorite so far. I didn't had any hope to see a remaster of this one, much less the complete version, since the some of the events (and Fuse story) didn't make in PS1 version
@@bossshun9 yep, this is good news for all SaGa fans. I was waiting to the original one receive a retroachievement set to play it again (being aching to play this one for some time now), but with remaster coming up, I'll hold my impulses so I can trully enjoy it XD
Oh hell yeah! They bringing it back and keeping it as it is. Now, the new generation is going to get a huge surprise from my childhood game! My only curiosity is knowing Fuse's story now as the IRPO patrolman. I am glad they kept the graphics as they are. Thank you!
played this game when I was in primary school on the ps1, its the type of game that doesn't hold your hand or show you where you're supposed to go to progress the story. I remember walking to a map at lvl 1 where the random mobs one shot me.
this is the probably the most accessible saga game ever. This was my first saga game, and I have played it more than any RPGs. There is a learning curve, but the community will be glad to help you!
It took them 22 years, but they're actually finally releasing SaGa Frontier in a complete state... good on you, S-E Now go ask Nintendo really nicely to go borrow Monolithsoft and finish Xenogears while you're at it, lol
Literally SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited SaGa are the only SaGa games without remakes or remasters. I have a good feeling we'll be getting those eventually. 😁
our dream of getting all the best jrpg classics remade/remastered are coming to reality more and more. There's a lot of other jrpgs that I'd like to see remastered I hope square will keep up the amazing work.
I'm squealing, crying and stoked. This is not a perfect game but it is my absolute favorite. I will live till Summer 2021 just to get to play this (and also live longer than that if it wasn't clear enough). T260G and all his forms will be amazing in remastered format.
A game's flaws can sometimes be to its benefit, but the new and revived content will definitely make this a more proper experience, perhaps a lot further than what the original English version gives us expectation for. That translation was probably bad so the story will probably be told better in this new version. (I say probably because Breath of Fire 2, while having a reputation of a bad translation, does not seem to miss much - might be the same case here.)
Now, hear me out. It is good that Square Enix has done this. People love this game, myself included. However, I feel a bit of a missed opportunity here. I feel that instead of a remaster, they should have gone with a full remake. The improvements they show here are great, but they still look a bit old. I feel this game could have benefited better from a full Remake. Take the Remake of Trials of Mana that came out this year, for example. That game is amazing with its updated look. Do not get me wrong, I am not trying to downplay this game here. I think that what they are doing is great here, but if it went full 3D like Trials of Mana remake, I would have told Square Enix to shut up and take my money.
This game was notorious for having a bunch of content cut for various reasons, so seeing this more complete version after all these years is super cool!
Wow I shed a tear. Thanks. I'd like to share an awesome detail that I remember about the game. Normally red can't transform to alkaiser when you have other party members in the battle. But if the other party members are blinded by the enemy, he can!
@@sigurdtheblue unless Square has let the license lapse, which I doubt, they should still own the rights to EVERYTHING related to Xenogears. So them rebuilding it, to essentially make the content from disc two playable and not just 3 dungeons in between long sequences of narration, should be possible. Xenosaga and Xenoblade are totally different IP owned by Namco/Monolith and Nintendo/Monolith respectively.
@@sigurdtheblue That could be good though. What with finances the way they are now, I would hope someone realizes how profitable a collab with Monolith with both sides as independent developers could be. Plus, a Xenogears rebuild wouldn't specifically need an entirely new engine/dev environment made *for* it - everything from the environments used for the Xenoblade games or later Nier games to the one for FFXIV with changes to be singleplayer rather than MMO to the one made for FFVII-R could work. Which makes it an even better idea - in that investing in a rebuild and parts IV-V-VI for Xenogears would *not* be a "moonshot" this time around - there's plenty of existing dev environments that could be adapted for it.
So insanely excited for this. SaGa Frontier is a massively underrated RPG and one of my favorite games of all time. Having scenes added and dialogue cleaned up will add some clarity and depth to the characters' stories, which is a huge plus!
This is what i want from SQEX old classic. Maybe acquire other forgotten ip and relaunch them. Not going with marvel and western games, ruining them in the process.
Funny story, I got this game in 97 from a game shop in Portsmouth while on holiday from Australia. Got FFT from the same shop. I was the envy of my friends when I got back to OZ.
This is rather unexpected, but great! Also -- this gives me hope for a Vagrant Story remaster. Or better yet, a remake!! For the love of god, SE, Vagrant Story is a masterpiece and one of your most highly rated games in your entire catalog. Please show some love for this unique gem of a game!
Never have I screamed louder and never have I clicked on a video link faster in my life. Fuse is finally protagonist-playable as intended and we get to see all the content that got left on the cutting room floor. Thank you, Mr. Kawazu, you are doing Elore's work.
@@Phryguye The entire IRPO crew will be in Fuse's story. They were so woefully underutilized and the only way to see them all as a team is if you were playing Red's story, as only he had access to Doll and Rabbit.
@@keri7154 Ren was made playable not too long ago in Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe, so making him playable in SF instead of being an NPC was likely a result of that.
At long last. It only took 23 years to do this in Europe. How about going that extra mile and giving the PAL region the original Parasite Eve as well as Chrono Cross...please
I wonder if Square would do it considering that Takahashi left them and started his own company. The fact that they've never done anything with the Xenogears brand since the 90s makes me think that they're still bitter about that, or something.
@@phoenixmerridian9119 Xenogears situation is definitely not favorable, but who knows. As for Legend of Dragoon, that is actually Sony's game and it was meant to compete with Final Fantasy VII so, not something to ask Square Enix for.
@@SeventhheavenDK I dunno about that... SaGa Frontier is a game that would be really confusing to newcomers of the series I feel, and it's not exactly "meaty" enough for a first game. You're expected to do all 7 (8 with the remaster) character playthroughs but you'll be doing the same exact thing for 80% of each of them with very few new cutscenes/dungeons/bosses. Romancing SaGa 3 is just the better game overall and has a lot more to it that you can do all in one playthrough. I think SaGa Frontier is definitely a game worth playing, but I think someone new to the SaGa franchise would be turned off by how confusing it can be and how repetitive the routes are.
This game might possibly be the easiest in the franchise to understand. It's generally considered a great launching point to get into the SaGa franchise.
Honestly this one might be the easiest to play lol. Since it's 7 (now 8!) different stories that use the same moves and same characters, it's easy to figure out what you have to do as you play more.
Surely there is some cut content that would not really help, but yeah, there is a lot that could improve the game knowing that PS1 limitations left the game incomplete.
Oh. My god. This. Is.... I... Thanks SquEnix. This makes up for the Chrono Trigger port. Now do Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Chrono Cross and we'll be good for the FF5 and FF6 ports.
