Chips Pal, that made my mouth water. The troublesome cleaning aspect is the heating elements when crumbs fall onto them, bit tricky to clean. As i'm sure you've found out, the magnetic trays work when you open the door and the tray pops out a bit via magnetic pull for easy access. Fantastic new toy though and energy efficient too compared to a main oven👍
You will enjoy this addition, had mine coming up to 4 years and use it every single day. I got the black version which seems easier to clean Steam does come from the door, as I recall that’s why it shouldn’t really be under a cabinet, easy enough to wipe away any drips Not much you can’t cook in it, only use my main oven for the bigger joints now. Roasting bags can help a lot avoiding the splashes if your roasting chicken for example Usually do bacon on a tray Cooked beef in it today, it roasts up to 2 hours The thing I like the most you can set the time and walk away, no more forgetting I had something in the oven I’m sure you will enjoy it, lots to experiment with. Best kitchen appliance I ever bought, can cook anything you can fit in. Enjoy x
That salt and pepper seasoning I sent you works well with chips in my Sage combi oven with an air fryer function. They do take a bit of getting used to though.
Quick tip that works very well for roast spuds especially, boil the spuds for about 10 mins with the skins on, leave to coolin the water, just be careful that they don't mush, the skins will just slipof and the spuds won't absorb loads of water so you get a much fluffier spud
I have the Same Smart oven only mine is branded Breville. I have had it a year now and I have not used my big oven since. It will bake three loaves of bread, cook a large pizza, roast a whole chicken or pork/beef roast. It does a great job good air frying. I use it pretty much daily.
When my underbench main oven cashed in its chips I replaced it with a new one that included an air fryer function. The oven works wonderfully but I can't bring myself to get that lovely air fryer basket/tray dirty so I haven't used it (18 months later). I might try it out tomorrow but I know I'll look in the cupboard and see that pretty, shiny basket and end up grilling them on the good old baking sheet. A little bicarb in the cooking water can help with the crispiness of the end product by the way - not too much, just a level teaspoon helps.
These are amazing, I had one, used it all the time for about 4 years & it eventually died, bought another one again straight away - never use my proper AEG (except for the hobs) - brilliant & nice vid (might have to try using some of your cooking tips)
I really want some home made chips now but, I have some veggies to use up, I'm making a veg curry tonight. Really loving this sage series, can't wait for more content on it, I might have to purchase it.
i have a similar oven /air fryer and use a cylinder they supplied on the rotisserie for a good (not as good as deep fried) chip that gets tumbled and it seems to be better then the tray mthod
Soak your chips before cooking in cold water for about an hour before cooking, it takes all the starch out of the potatoes, so you get crispy chips on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside.
If you're behind the times then I must still be stuck in the past. I have none of these fancy things lol I treated myself to a tassimo hot drinks machine a few years back. Not used it in yonks!. I'm content using a toaster, oven & microwave 😂 I do enjoy watching you with all this modern technology though 👌🏼
personally I would always spray of shake on vinegar first before the salt as that way the salt sticks better , but keep up the good work with the vids m8 i got a ninja myself after watching you're earlier vids. lol
I have this oven and you should turn the tray around half way through cooking for the chips to cook evenly and you are right they always need a few minutes more
Great new bit of kit that, Gareth. Very smart. But, hasn't the Old Air Fryer also done you proud. Those Chips looked so good ! Great video yet again, thank you as always ..... 👏😉👍👌
I've hosted Christmas dinner parties for 4, even 6, with the Sage oven + a microwave. It takes a bit of planning, but the top acting as a plate warmer helps enormously.
also when i did chips in my "off brand" air fryer i just washed them left the skin and cut them and soaked them for a few hours in cold water (probs the same result as par boiling them to get the starch out ?) , patted them dry then drizzled a teaspoon of oil on them and gave them a mix and fry them for 10 mins shake and then another 10 mins at 180c , times may alter for fryer types.
If all these new super duper gadgets keep being invented we’ll all need another kitchen dedicated especially for all of them, id love a new house with a traditional kitchen and a gadgetised kitchen 😂
Air Fryers are just rebranded convection ovens which are smaller. If you want to cook a small amount of food they are useful because they use less energy because they are not heating a big space up. Once you scale an air fryer up to the same size as a normal convection over, its simply a convection oven, same as what most people already have
@BaldFoodieGuy: don't often comment as I trawl through and watch RU-vid content, but I felt I should. The quality and content of your videos is exceptional, easy to listen to, and very entertaining. You keep it real mate, straight from the heart and that's really appreciated (I'm over 50 and can't cook, so watching you is giving me some right brownie points lol). Watching from the UK. Stay safe buddy, and best wishes to you and family.
@@BaldFoodieGuy - you are most welcome buddy, there will always be people out there mate that love to moan, that's the world we live in :( BUT, I reckon you the positivity you bring outweighs those comments/people by tenfold ...................... people are very quick to complain mate, but less so to compliment, there will be thousands of people out there enjoying your 'episodes' but don't comment - keep doing what you do, it's working. Stay safe buddy. P.S - I reckon you have to have an 'Egg Banjo' video on the cards? A feast, as all Veterans will know ;)
Can't cook or just don't want to?. Everyone can cook! Do you know that the skill level needed to drive a car is the same skill level needed to be a successful cook. Have a think about it 🤔 We all make have to learn a skill. Gareth doesn't boast about being a cook, but he can and he does because he wants to.
@@johndavis7944 - When I say I can't cook, I'll have you know that I once caused a family 'incident' with some 'medium rare' chicken fillet kebabs, I tried to make a few years ago - I am still reminded about it to this day. Since then, I stick with toast. My driving is good though, just need to get a licence and I will be sorted.
Does the guidance REQUIRE that you parboil the chips or is that just a personal preference? I ask because I don't bother when I do my homemade oven chips in my conventional oven.
When on the toast setting, the number 4 at the bottom is the number of slices of bread. You can change that and it heats up the right amount for however many slices you're doing 🙂
You can’t beat homemade chips my wee mum god rest her used to make banging homemade chips and roasties beef gravy all over yum stuff these looked tasty bud I would used loads of hp for dipping
Thanks for the video i like the oven and may get one, but what really caught my interest was the saxa spray bottle. Afew of those with different flavoured contents interests me no end of flavour experiments to torture the kids with.
my housemate bought one it's called the baccarat ultimate fry xl airf fryer and oven , all similar functions but his has a rotisserie function and it comes with a basket/ cage that rotiserates your chips. have yet to rotisserate a chicken yet. it seems that you could only fit a small to medium chicken in it definetly not a large or family size. I like to cote my chips in melted butter and plenty of salt. enjoy your videos.
Hmmm, looks like a good machine, can you compare it to the Ninja? I have a Ninja 14 in 1 but am looking for another wee oveny grilly thing and would love to see which works better and also I am interested to see how hard it is to keep clean.
My fave now is Aldi Skin On Fries, chuck em in the air fryer 20 minutes no messing and the best easy home cooked chips. Give em a go in your fancy gadget and see what you think. As alway good video.
Really appreciate this video. It's wonderful. Thank you very much. I was just wondering about your blue pan on your hob. It looks like the kind of thing. My partner needs many thanks indeed. How much is it and where did you get it from? Many thanks indeed lot of love x❤️ tash
Move over Ninja. There's a New Gun in town. 'Sage' Gareth your rangehood fan sounds like the engine room of a Harbour Tug! Mine sounds like the 9:15 am express to Bristol. Good on you for reading the instruction manual. A wealth of information isn't it! Internal Cleaning. Is best done as soon as it's cool enough to do so using grease cutting wipes and then a damp cloth wipe over. Mine too has the preheat function, so anything you have to cook further is subject to a quick preheat. Chips were done nicely 👍 Next step, bake something like cheese and bacon muffins. Thanks for the new toy demo. Cheers Gareth 👍😀🤤
Instead of parboiling, I microwave chips before air frying - seems to work just as well. I keep a pair of welding gauntlets in the kitchen for handling hot metal things.
I have to get one of those bad boys. I have a small kitchen and this would be ideal. pS. I had the M&S beef filled yorksupiddings. Just as a snack and it was delicious. I’m looking forward to the gammon shanks.
It also makes a good plate warmer on top, looks nice and shiny 🤩I usually leave one of the trays in the bottom over the elements, it's easier to clean because stuff drips from the wire tray, I like watching, I call mine TV oven 😆
the problem with leaving a tray in the bottom is it defeats the air fryer functionality as the bottom elements are obscured, this is not necessary for chips but yeah, if food is gonna drip, use the tray
A tip for you, when oiling up chips or frozen chips in a big bowl or pot for the gas oven, use crisp n dry, it's not spam but it is rape seed oil and the chips are beautiful, you have to try it and taste them, even with cheap frozen chips covered in the cnd oil and oven cooked are beautiful.
That's interesting..I've had one of these for quite some time and it is exactly the same but mine goes under the brand name of Breville..you'll never look back with this little oven..they do everything and don't take as long to preheat as the wall oven for baking xxxx💖💖
We have a ninja oven and it really is difficult to clean once stuff has baked on after grilling. They could of done with being black enamelled design similar to ovens?
Ive never done chips in mine. You should try a pizza, mine will cook a detroit style pizza from asda fresh made counter, although its a tight fit, it cooks perfectly in 10mins.
I've got the Innoteck 30l air fryer and I do my chips at 200c for 20-22 minutes without preheating. The pre-settings on the machine are pretty useless mine is 230c for 15 minutes which cooks the outside fine but inside they aren't cooked. Like you say just test it and find out what works best.
Missed this review when you first posted it. Very useful consumer demo. Yeah the issue of Space. No doubt that these modern appliances are rendering integrated units redundant. Think the Sage also looks stylish. Just now going to catch up with your V Ninja review. Many thanks.
Hi i enjoyed the video.I watch yesterday when you cooked the pies in thesage cooker.I have looked on the net and i cannot find it .Could you please tell me where you got it from.
@Bald Foodie Guy We won't get rid of our Ninja 15:1 from the kitchen though as it's been a workhorse alongside the multi function convection oven/microwave/grill 👍
Just a quick point out!couldn't you swap the new oven with that black multicooker next to it and then stand the toaster on the new oven because there's a higher space in the corner?from BIGMICK IN HULL
