Good review, by fishermen, for fishermen. I agree with your assessment of the Salt HD, and look forward to trying R8. Sounds like they would compliment one another well. Fish the R8 when conditions allow, switch to Salt HD in the afternoon wind. Thanks.

Appricate the kind words. That would be ideal for the rod situation - a great way to do it.

Great review, I like how you incorporated both reel and line choices into it. Is it the same specs / taper as the R8 with saltwater components, or is it different than the R8 altogether?

Hi Thomas, it's a completely different rod. The. rod construction material and resin I believe are the same. The tapers and components are different on the rods - they are two totally different rods.

But would you choose it over an NRX+s

nice they have a 6WT..would be perfect for my needs as i fish early morning not much winds and just target bonefish bonita corvina spotted bay bass ..on surf halibut perch corbina...i might have a bit a trouble if i catch a 30 inch halibut on a 6wt but thats the fun part lol... thanks for the info on this rod.. was planning to get a R8 but noticed the specs seem to be a little way too light not having that backbone more needed for salt.. this salt R8 should be good, just not much a fan of their reels lol

Hey JDM This R8 Salt sounds like it would totally fit your needs (besides the 30-inch halibut on a 6-weight, which might be a little too fun) The R8 Salt has a serious backbone and I can't talk about durability enough. We smacked this rod around!

@@OleFloridaFlyShop what do you think would be good to pair a reel with 6wt salt R8 ? Looking to have balance set up with that rod. I know going to vary depending on reel brands and fly line . Kinda know the 6wt are already light weight so balance won't be a big thing to worry about plus I only fish maybe 3 or so hours the most

@@thatonebeone There is no doubt the Tibor Backcountry would pair perfectly with the Salt R8

I mean u been fishing the R8 for two days and then say it is more way more durable than Sector etc?
@OleFloridaFlyShop

Yes, 100% - I have used the Sector a good amount and have broken two of them (Totally my fault). I used the R8 and was very mean to it (smacking on the boat/tip-in-ground bend. The stuff I did to R8 in my professional opinion would have broken the Sector 10-fold.

Still waiting for Sage to hit a homerun from 8-12 with a saltwater rod. For the prices sage is charging now, their saltwater rods should atleast be "as good" as a Sector, NRX+, Zane Pro, etc. They're just not. Really liked the 8WT Salt R8 (finally), but the 9 felt DEAD. As i was typing this i heard you refer to the Salt HD and Igniter with the same word, funny enough. But its true, the 9 feels like a totally different rod designer dreamt it up. Thats always struck me as odd with Sage. Is their a clunker # Sector or NRX? Nahhhhhh, not really. The real irony for me is that all the Sage rods that used the original Konnetic graphite feel awesome to me, from the ONE to the Payload and so on. Come on Knox, hit on one already - Rant over.
