This was probably the most comprehensive and complete review of a laptop I have ever seen. I like that there was no opinions and all factual information being given in clear and simple terminology. This is great for the average gamer like me that has limited computer knowledge but I am still computer literate enough to know what is good and what is bad in a gaming laptop. I will be buying one of these this month based on this review after having been looking at them for a while now.
I love my Sager NP6877CQ. This thing has been a dream since i've gotten it 3-4 months ago. Im definitely a loyal Sager customer until they prove otherwise but for now they exceeded my expectations with this laptop. Its also beautiful and minimalistic. The best keyboard and speakers ive ever felt and heard on a laptop. Mine is a 17.3 inch 120hz screen and has the 10th gen i7 with gtx 1660ti. It's so fast, great performance and great temps.
That’s awesome man. Thinking about getting one with the rtx 2070 super 17.3 144hz. What’s are your temps when gaming ? And what games and FPS do you get? Thanks
@@Grimmjow19872 Hey so I can run any game at ultra and get at least 60fps without a problem. But for some examples on Jedi Fallen Order I can get a consistent 110-120fps if I set it to high and if I go ultra I will average between 80-90 and some intense areas will dip to 70-80fps. Outer Worlds is pretty much the same give or take a few fps. And for intense games like those my gpu temp avg is 73-75°c and after a few hours it will pretty much top out at 80°c and my cpu will avg 70-72°c and top out around 78°c after a few hours. For 2d games like Ori and Blind Forest for example I easily maintain 120fps and my cpu temps will average 50°c and gpu 55°c and will top out at 60°c after hours of play for both gpu and cpu. But in alot of 2d games i've seen my fps as high as 400+fps. But I will usually cap it at 120 for my screen. I also gotta add that I did do a CPU undervolt on Intel XTU and took it to -.100 so that surely reduced my cpu temps which originally averaged about 10°c higher than the numbers above which still was well within safe and normal operating temps. My cpu is rated for 105°c so a 82 avg pre undervolt was completely normal since I had called intel about it and asked. But the undervolt is easy and knocked a good 10°c off my cpu temps so it's something I would definitely consider if you do get the laptop. Hope that was helpful.
I own a Sager laptop for 2 years at this point. It feels like something completely opposite to a macbook -- it's fast, it runs cool, it's thick and it's super easy to maintain. It has pretty simple internal design (as in, stuff is not cramped in), it's very simple to open and move components around, like installing another ssd. I've owned manygaming laptops include many laptops in the past like asus, msi, acer but this is my favourite so far.
It doesn't contain nvidia rtx 2070 desktop edition. No laptop does. Desktop version is rated at 1620 MHz base, laptop one at 1410 (the one inside this laptop) and MaxQ one at 1305 and MaxQ low power one at 1185MHz.
Everywhere I look(including your own website) other than here lists this as having a TB3 port and you only mention it as USB C with Display Port transport. Can you confirm this is actually TB3 and how many PCIe lanes does it have total, and with all 3 m.2 in use how many are free?
This was a great video - cheaper alternative to my beloved MSI. Is there a version of this laptop (or one just as thin and light) that carries an rtx 2080 inside?
@@vendinmachine4544 You're talking about a Clevo P970 series which sporting Turing Max-Q GPUs like you've mentioned, not the PB5x/PB7x (15"/17") series which only have 2060 and 2070 non Max-Q. Please check Clevo website for more info: www.clevo.com.tw/
You can switch between Optimus and G-Sync mode on this laptop in BIOS. With Optimus the screen will connect to integrated graphics, with G-sync it will connect to dedicated graphics.
After removing all the screws and the battery. I had trouble removing the back plate. Is there a specific locking mechanism to open it? It definitely doesn’t come out as shown in the video. PS- got the newer model to this- Cleve pb51df2
Quick note, I think the 89 degree max temp on the core is as high as you will see given that I believe 90 is the TJ max for this chip. In short, those cores are being throttled back due to heat. Someone correct me if I'm off here.
You're the most transparent reviewer who doesn't spew fake shit about thermals like dave2D. Mate, have you checked out the Alienware m15, m17 or the area 51m? I really like your reviews and would love it if you'd do us a solid and take a look at Alienware :) and keep up the awesome work :D, love ya.
Also, if you do one on the NP8385F2, Gaming benchmarks would be good, and ideally, I'd love to see stock thermal paste vs liquid metal since you're currently offering that free promotional upgrade.
@@itiswrittenministry4131 it's being delivered on Tuesday so it's not here yet. I got the 16gig version only because I've got 2x 16g ddr4 2666mhz and a 1tb m.2 from my previous laptop. As for thermals I'm not really worried about it, clevo has always done a decent job at keeping things cool and I always add liquid metal to my laptops anyway. I'll update here once I'm up and running.
@@itiswrittenministry4131 nah I got mine from exotic pc. I like how quickly they respond if you have any issues. Be very careful with liquid metal for thermal paste because it will destroy your computer if you apply too much and it leaks onto your motherboard or cpu/GPU. If you've never used liquid metal before I suggest just using premium thermal paste instead of liquid metal.
Really like the channel, mostly the temps and disassembly parts. I find the videos a bit lengthy so I skip many times. For example, why filming the weights for 30seconds... just write all the specs in a 5 second page like everyone else :). Thank you for reading
Were you able to use both m.2 ports and the 2.5" bay for storage, for a total of 3? Specs only say 2 m.2 drives or 1 m.2 drive and 1 2.5" sata drives. Thank you!
1263 is a really good Cinebench R15 score for that CPU. The cooling system is definitely doing very well. But seems loud. I've had a couple Sager laptops so far. I like dhtem both. I actually bought my first Sager I think it was way back in 2004 😃 I bought my last one was about two and half years ago. I'm thinking about getting a new one though.
When it comes to gaming laptops, 60db is pretty average. You'll be hard pressed to find a laptop without loud fans while gaming, especially if it's a thin/light.
never mind it was about an error i found but i think it has been fixed or just cant find it again was a older style MSI RAIDER with a GTX with a error on promotion price going for over 11,000 dollars was kind of funny to say the least cause it was just over 9,000 dollars more then the original price. for a promotion lol
I'm at the same spot, can you tell me how you removed it? I feel like I'm going to break the bottom panel and cant get the keyboard out first because I dont want to scratch up the case around it
@@justporter there is 2 screws beneath keyboard. You need push in the hole on bottom lid, that has keyboard sign. Then lift keyboard, starting from closer to screen side. But do not completely remove keyboard just slightly lift it and unscrew 2 screws.
@@АлтынбекДюсембаев-л5ь Wow, never quiet had one like this before, thank you so much for the reply! Worked great, and I will not put those two screws back in so next time I don't have to remove the keyboard like that.
Really bad disassembly explanation, spent 30 min trying cautiously trying to take apart my laptop, but it is unclear at all whether i have to remove the keyboard first, then the back panel. So i initially unlatched all sides the middle right and left latches were bent in and was unable to "disconnect" I hope you can record an ACTUAL teardown and not give a half assed jumped ahead disassembly. Not good!
thank you very much you show us the most complait ! i need buy laptop witch is the most silant possible ! cuz my children's share room and one is always bothering with his brothers laptops fan ! do you think this lab top is silant ? the price is good thanks have happy healthy new years
Gentech how come when you bench mark you never use timespy? Firestrike is dx11 and only paints half the picture where timespy is a dx12 benchmark. I’ve seen games ran in dx12 mode pulling better than dx11. So I think adding timespy is relevant. Thanks
i messaged ur facebook but some how believe it is not used any more due to the last time there was a post so i will say it here and see if it is read faster
@@jbergene I'm not talking about the looks surely they're same,I'm talking about performance cooling will gonna be matter because 9750 is tend to run hot
@@sakibsarwat5064 i wqs talking about the 8750 Vs 9750. 8750 can even be better for gaming due to its lower performance. So the graphic card can utilize more before thermal peaking. For general tasks, the 9750 won't be running at peaks long anyway so the difference is negligible. If you get a good deal on it it's much more worth it. The 9750 is only better ln paper. And will be bit better if someone makes proper cooling for it. Which none one have done yet afaik
They've been around for a very long time. Alienware used to use the Clevo/Sager chasis back in the 90's/2000's. These machines are well built, and customer service through third party vendors like XoticPC, and LPCDigital, has always been phenomenal for me. I've been buying Sagers/Clevos for over 15 years.
@@romancenturion8 how is the quality? Customer service? I'm wary of buying one honeslty, I know little about sager and the laptop looks a bit cheap. Please give a honest and valid opinion on it for me, thinking of buying the one with 2060 and 240hz panel
@@vile1009 the build quality is acceptable. It doesn't feel cheap but it also doesn't feel like a luxury notebook like a macbook. I have the 2070 version with the 144hz screen and I can tell you it's a powerhouse. The screen is one of the best 144hz IPS panels on the market and looks great. Mine has the slightest amount of backlight bleed in the left corner but it's unnoticeable unless the screen is completely black. Check your screen for backlight bleed as soon as you get it and return it if there is too much as this seems to be a quality control issue on a lot of them. Battery life is pretty poor all round. While not gaming expect 2-3 hours and while gaming expect about an hour. If that is not long enough you can always go into the BIOS and enable switchable dynamic graphics which will turn off the dedicated GPU and use the CPUs integrated card unless you tell it not to. This adds about an hour and a half of battery life. The cooling on the laptop is very good for it's high wattage specs. That being said under stress test benchmarks I did have some power limit throttling to the CPU but a slight undervolt solved that problem. Additionally the track pad is quite average but the left and right buttons on the track pad are pretty terrible and mushy. If you use a mouse like most people this well never be an issue though. The keyboard feels pretty good but there are definitely better keyboards out there. The software for configuring the RGB backlight is underwhelming and doesn't let you chose as many options as I'd like. For the most part it just have it set to a single color or I turn it off completely. It's really easy to upgrade and comes with two m.2 slots and a 2.5" bay which is very nice for expandability. Additionally, the ram it comes with is a single stick so adding in another stick of 2666mhz boosts CPU performance slightly. Overall, I love the laptop. It's a great workstation if you pop another 16gb stick in the back. And doesn't have all the gross gamery bling other laptops with similar specs have. Additionally the because of the thin bezeled screen the 15.6" is more similar to a 14" in which is great for portability.
@@vile1009 one thing I forgot to mention is that microcenter's in house brand is PowerSpec and they are just rebranded clevo and sager laptops. Microcenter offers amazing customer service (at least in my area) so id look there if you think you will require support at some point.
No, you can't in this one even though their are a few you can such as the overpriced Alienware 51m but at $3,000 minium I don't think it's worth it but GPU can be changed on it also but still. It's a desktop CPU and GPU but at that price I might as well build an awesome desktop.
3-5 years. The spec was just agreed upon. it will be years before it is actually used. Also, you do realize that usb-4 is thunderbolt which we already have. USB is just going to adopt Thunderbolt since Intel isn't charging for licensing TB anymore.
@@CJBMAGGOT94 Clevo DOES making this barebone/chassis, while Sager are just like other Clevo resellers like Evoc by HIDevolution, OriginPC, Metabox, to name a few.
89 Celsius is too much for this CPU, it's working temperature limited less than 100 Celsius. I will buy it anyway, but I will order customize thermopast on Sager site, it looks this is must. It is very HOT!
Just buy Kryonaut and change it yourself. It's the best there is if you don't want liquid metal and the risk involved. The temp digg is also negligible
You'd be surprised, I only got a 1060 6gb laptop so I'm fine carrying it around but I got a buddy who carries around his 5k dual 1080 laptop but it's heavy as hell I probably wouldn't
This is one reason i hate Clevo. Look at your keyboard temps where your hands are WASD. Those are hot. Clevo always had bad keyboard temps and this is no different. not sure why you think it's comfortable temps but to me those are same temps as some of the thin offerings from MSI and Acer and other reviewers said they are unacceptable. My Predator Helios 500 don't even hit 30 in those areas. Even the Blade RTX 2019 has much lower temps than this readout. Sigh Clevo hasn't changed...
I had very bad experience with clevo/sager . There will be something wrong with it from the start and then they will keep breaking until they die. Will never buy unknown brand electronics ever.
@@meji6581 One of M2 slots was speeding down after 1st few minutes of use. Keyboard keys stopped responding after a year and am still changing keyboard every year cause keys keep dying. DC jack started to heat up to the point that it started melting solder and dc jack plastic. Screen kept blinking as 980m is damaged so i run it on intel graphics. Bottom rubber pads just fell off. Body started to crack. etc etc.... 4 year of usage says its pure garbage stay away.
@TotheK I N G D O M I have used it for years and i know what happened to it. I have much more knowledge than you about computers so i know what i am saying. Stop defending your cheap junk. One can get good brands for same or even cheaper price now. Clevo is junk and so are you.
I've been buying Sagers/Clevos for over 15 years. Phenomenal products, and very reliable/customizable. Please don' listen to, Jack Wood. "Unknown brand electronics." Hilarious, and delusional!
Clevo got absolutely stupid plug and socket for power supply. Maximum you can use this socket 1 year, after you need replace power supplay transformer, becouse nobody produce this stupid plug and socket :) It cost about 100 us dol :) Monitors holders not good quality too, and maximum one year you can use this very very expensive laptop at active mode :) Actually without cooler pad you can not play any normal games long time :)
