Japanese battles are interesting because they are generally smaller in scope and have a higher composition of pro soldier vs pro soldier. As opposed to other countries where the bulk of the armies were farmers and serfs. Think it's makes for more drama. Nobunaga was interesting because he used non samurai and armed them with guns
Very interesting and as always well done. With most of the documentaries i have a basic sense of most of the subject's actions throughout their life, but this was a real eye opener
Thank you! I truly enjoyed this video and learned a lot about a person I didn’t know about. I’ve had compliments on my t-shirt from yall. Need a new one😊
We must never forget who we are, or where we come from, and that our ancestors, although long gone, still have a right to be honored, revered and heard. As without their hard work, bravery, intelligence and sacrifice, we would not have the many comforts and privileges we enjoy today. It's amazing how similar the story of Saigo Takamori is to our divided society of today Today, our western world are torn between those who want to preserve the older ways values, and those that wants to tear it down in the name so-called equality. Just like Japan during, and after the Meiji restoration.
The feminists think that equality is progress. The rest of the world knows it for the disaster it is. All of feminism's tenets are merely disruptors which are destroying the societies in which it has entrenched itself.
Nice video about last samurai in Japan tradition from excellent specific channel...too nice and enjoyable knowledge about this specific role of authority in Japanese islands thanks for sending
We all "stumble " in a role to one end or another.. hindsight is always a little distorted. Remember we are merely beings in a time and place under circumstance.

Seems to me that someone loved both the movie Last of The Mohicans novel/movie and loved the history of Saigo Takamori, and then decided to combine the two, and ended up with The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. And we are all happier for it! (So long as foreign young people realize that it is historical fiction and not a biography)
Donald Keene's authorative and utterly brilliant book on the Emperor Meiji covers the incident of the policemen being sent to Kyushu. There is no evidence they were sent to assasinate Saigo; indeed, surely their appearance and purpose on Kyushu would have been covert if they were assassins.
Technological and modernizational developments always overrun some classes of people and leave them behind. For example, in the United States today some poor as well as some elderly folks have been deprived of the opportunity to become computer literate. Perhaps Takamori saw the same thing happening in Japan.
Let's not forget the traditional samurai was total murderous authority over their pedants. Samurai could kill any non samurai for any perceived insult or transgression. Samurai made the European knight almost look like the Arthurian knights myth.
You got it wrong bud, it's 丨爪卩乇尺丨卂ㄥ 千ㄖ尺匚乇 ᗪ乇千丨乇ᗪ, facing 500 samurai Surrounded and outnumbered, 60:1 the sword face the gun Bushido dignified, 丨ㄒ'丂 ㄒ卄乇 ㄥ卂丂ㄒ 丂ㄒ卂几ᗪ ㄖ千 ㄒ卄乇 丂卂爪ㄩ尺卂丨 Surrounded and outnumbered
Keep in perspective that in a feudal society the common man doesn't have many rights or opportunities. What the Europeans offered was trade and Christianity. Each of these were free to be chosen by the common Japanese, however, the ruling class of Japan were fearful of European influence on the Japanese and they would lose control, so they prohibited contact. The Europeans and Japanese nobility were both fighting for control of the Japanese people, and so neither were righteous.
Great men on both side. The Samurai Who fought for and against die old Order. Greatest ever the Samurai Who fought and died at Hiroshima. Like the Spartant at the termophyles. No one came back. May they Rest in Peace, like all Soldiers dying to forefill their oath in the eye of certain death.
Saigo Takamori was Right, Japan should have kept their Traditional ways, now look how fucked up the country is. Japan was NOT meant for modernization, as they already had a System that for them was working. Now after WW2, American still owns Japan as only the surrender agreement was signed, not the other agreement that the USA gave back Japan to Japan. Japan does run themselves as a Nation, but just like the Philippines, and parts of Europe America , BIG BROTHER has their thumb on them !
England lost to America but I'm pretty sure they have infiltrated the governing system. Looking at historical events the art of war applies ( can't beat them join them) taking over from the in side of
Don't be silly. Everyone knows Tom Cruise is just an actor who played the roll of the last Samaria, who was an attractive Caucasian American military officer, of course. Because Hollywood knows better than history that throughout history Caucasian Americans did all the best stuff, since long before there ever was a single Caucasian American. In short, Caucasian Americans are the very best at everything that the single Orange American hasn't taken the slightest interest in. You could say, (according to Hollywood, who, if you remember, knows best, Nazis, proud boys, and white supremacists of every color, {pink, off white, egg shell, pearl, and any shade of gray that isn't gray or black}), Caucasian Americans are the very best! The rest are, well, the rest... But you were close. Tom Cruise is amongst the best of the modern white supremacists.., I mean Caucasian Americans, (oops, my bad).
I always get annoyed with Tim Cruise comments on this. He was a device for the audience to witness the Last Samurai (plural). There's a reason Japanese people love that movie and don't err on the side of being offended.
What makes you think they didn't know this? It's not unusual to refer to historical figures by their last names. Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Churchill, Gandhi, Lincoln, etc etc
If Japan and Meiji actually allow the traditional Samurai class continued to deal with Japanese military and defences, we might never have The pacific war….

Leave it to the US Government to create it's own problem. If Admiral Perry didn't sent his fleet to Japan then the Shogunate would have lasted for much much longer and Japan would have remained as a feudal nation. Japan wouldn't have been nowhere as strong as they did in WW2 to challenge us.
Such an interesting topic. However I think the cheap editing really ruined the pleasure of watching this. Haphazzerd images zooming in and out in stead of explaining what it is and not sure if they are really relevant to the story. This is cheap work and I did not like it even thought the topic greatly interests me.
