Welcome Back! If you missed last weeks episode go check it out. It’s the start to the week with our friends aboard Macushla…or the ‘Cush’ as we like to call her. I cant even being to describe how incredible it was giving these guys a little glimpse of our lives. The brilliantly beautiful & the downright scarry. Sailing into heavy headwinds and big seas. Anchoring in the most exclusive of pristine beaches. The whole time never faltering, willingly and whole heartedly putting their trust in us no matter how crazy it got. I will forever be grateful for this incredible week and these amazing peeps.
After the brutal passage to get to Barbuda we were are anxious to explore this islands coastline & see some of the pink sand beaches often frequented and made famous by the late Princess Diana. So we pulled anchor and headed back out to sea.
In 2017 Hurricane Irma hit the Caribbean with such force and destruction the countries affected are still scrambling to clean up the devastation. A Category 5 storm with winds peaking at 180MPH that hit Barbuda head on & destroying 95% of the islands infrastructure. A devastation we watched in shock and disbelief as it unfolded on our TV screens. Now 3 years later we are left speechless and humbled as we continue to witness the aftermath of the sheer power of Mother Nature.
While we hunker down and wait for the surf to come in, we set out to explore a bit of the uninhabited part of the island. A beautiful rocky coast line. A stark contrast to the pristine white sandy beaches just a stones throw away. Another eye opening and overwhelming glimpse at the reality of plastic waste and its effects on our home.
